That Stuff Everyone Blogged About A Few Days Ago

Muism Made a Freebie JacketSo, Muism dropped a freebie. It’s been blogged a few times. Honestly, I don’t like it much. The flexi prim bottom to the jacket looks a bit weird. While the prims come in a few sizes and are modifiable, they are no mod and the collar and tail are linked, limiting the proportions of the item so there’s a chance you can’t fit them correctly. However — its a freebie, and beggars can’t be choosers. Maybe you’ll need it for a costume. Who knows? I’m wearing it with the sleeves rolled up, but you can wear it with sleeves rolled down as well. The non-prim part can be worn on the jacket or shirt layer. Grab it by joining the Muism group and looking in the archives.

Anyway, I’m wearing more than just the jacket. Under it I’m wearing a white tank from Draconic Kiss, available for free in the far back corner of the store. It comes in four colors: white, black, red and blue. There’s also a tshirt pack with the same colors too. The back corner seems like a discount corner in general, there is other stuff for relatively cheap back there. All are available on the shirt layer only, which limits their usefulness. However, they do fit under jackets in a pinch and are quite useful like that, and the price can’t be beat.

Stuff that's NOT Muism!I also chose to wear the Harvey hair from Gurl 6. Gurl 6 offers a free pack of hair (by way of voucher) to everyone under 30 days old. That’s how I got it. For the record, other places do this too: Biedermann’s Quality Hair (who I’ve featured a style from here before), Diversity Hair, and Hairstyles by Tami McCoy.

The pants and gloves come from Izumiya. This is an awesome little store I found while searching for the hair in my last post. When I ran into Creamy at the store she pointed me to the main store, which is full of freebie (and non-freebie) awesomeness that I’ll probably blog about soon. There’s a lot in the backlog. The layout of the store is rather simple. Cheap clothes on the first floor, and freebies and dollarbies on the upper floor. The gloves are free and these jeans are 1L, both on the upper floor.

The shoes are the current freebie of the week at Second Guy Mall, black creepers from SF Design. They are pretty decent shoes and decently versatile — not too formal but not too casual. They’ll get taken down soon so grab em quickly if you like em.

Oh, and a quick note — the Albero Hunt is good if you’re a woman. I’m not. There was one gift that wasn’t furniture that considered guys and one more that was just an awesome genderless gift — boxes 10 and 27. Honestly, just skip the rest. Those correspond to Kiki’s Closet and the SantaMonica Shopping Mall, respectively.

I bought a jean jacket from Muism recently, and it has a prim jacket bottom half. Its flexi, and its linked to the collar prim, and its no mod. So, you can’t resize any of it to fit your body or change the relative position of the two linked prims. Within five minutes of putting it on, it was clear that it was useless: the prim jacket bottom flaps in and out of my body and doesn’t line up with the top half 90% of the time. I emailed the creator and got no reply. It was $650, which is the most I ever spend on a single item of clothing, and its total junk.

    Best blog post title EVER.

Oh, Umbra, I sympathize! If one has just the right body shape, that style of jacket/coat looks so wonderful. But I’ve bought a few jackets of that style and I can’t even make the Mod OK ones work on me. They really should come with a warning and allow a demo to try.

Hmm, not sure with you two but I’ve had Muism jackets and have always loved them. I do believe they’re modifiable though. Usually I wear the medium or large size of the prim bottom and it fit well. Sometimes I would move forward the prim a tad to the front or rotate a lil to align well with the jacket. I hope that helps. Mr Oh’s demo idea isn’t bad also.

I’m definitely a fan of demos for clothing like this–it can help reduce if not eliminate the number of customers who are unsatisfied with what at least some would consider a major purchase.

Umbra, I encourage you to try communicating via notecard if you haven’t already done so. IMs can easily be lost, and even email can go astray or get lost in the shuffle. Sending a notecard may not be the perfect solution, but it’s something else you can try.

I hopped in the group quick to grab this. It’s very 1980’s BMXer.

Umbra, In my experience MUISM offers their clothing in several sizes if it is not mod (but most is mod). Check your folder for other sizes they are usually packaged in one folder but in separate prims/boxes.

Agree with Ryan - If you do not get response from ICE via IM contact the creators via Note card. Our IMs do get capped and we get lot of them daily.

Better to do that first than speaking badly about your experience in blogs, since you have not covered all the basis.

    response to article:
It is a freebeee - creator has the right to make it mod or no mod with no demo nor support for the item.

Freebee are usually targeted to noobs that have nothing to wear not so much as something you would style with since free items do not receive any customer support and can be removed by creator at any time without notice.

Hm, the prim attachments are mod, the clothing parts aren’t .

  • 9. Express Zenovka  |  April 15th, 2008 at 3:31 am

Ren: You’re right. I misread the perms. I’ve fixed and clarified what I meant above.

Maddox: as I said, beggars can’t be choosers. Unlike the other writers here I don’t always personally like everything in my posts (though I often do). If a freebie is of reasonable quality, I’ll try to make an ensemble around it and show it in case someone else actually does like it or want it. It is free, after all. I minimally give my opinion on the clothes and give information I think someone might need to know about the item.

I got other jackets from Muism (a long striped and the new denim) and sometimes it’s hard to correctly align the prim with the body, but most of the cases we can. I agree that sometimes on prim clothes there should be a demo availabe so we can see if it suits on our shape…

…and speaking of that, @ Maddox, now that I need to buy a second shape from you to give to my RL-brother when do you do some no-mod-demos? it was also nice :)

Nuno - contact me - I got solution for you…

Express, I am sure that your intentions were pure and I do not mind seeing good freebees worn in styles (much) however you may find that the tone of you “review” offends hard working designers. It certainly offended me as a Muism fan. I never had a slightest problem with fitting any of Musim designs to any of my shapes nor myself.

To speak about freebee like representation of designers’ hard work - I think is not fair especially that the clothing is free. Designers provide freebies for their not so fortunate customers if they are not mod or unusable they can throw them away - but they are not intended for review.

  • 13. Ryan Darragh  |  April 17th, 2008 at 1:24 pm

I think freebies are fair game for evaluation as well as presentation. Surely it’s legitimate to point out things like moddability or potential fitting issues for the benefit of those who might want to know. Naturally there’s a difference between freebies and full-price creations in terms of how much flexbility and customer support you can reasonably expect. My guess would be that most readers of this blog get the distinction. If a freebie turns out to be not workable for you–as Maddox pointed out, you can throw it away with no harm, no foul.

Hello, how come I can’t find this particular jacket in Muism ? Where exactly is this jacket located does anybody know?

I got the free hair voucher for noobs from gurl6 but I still didn’t get a reply from the person in charge after sending the voucher to him.

J: As I said in the post, its from the group notices. You’ll have to join the group and look in the archived notices.
