Review: Ookami Ningen by Zorena Deckard [1]
I was kinda sorta peripherally aware of Zorena Deckard’s shop Ookami Ningen–I had gone there to buy a Daniel Boone-style raccoon-tail cap for a costume event–but hadn’t really explored the many fantasy, roleplay and costume possibilities it offers until recently. Aidan and I decided to collaborate on showing you just a few of Zorena’s outfits for men. The Hellenic Magister ensemble shown here is fairly simple and includes shirt, pants, prim neck and sleeve cuffs, and flexiprim robe base (the bottom “skirt”). The fabric texture is clean and smooth, with no heavy weave or wrinkle and fold shading–this is fantasy, after all! The flexi robe moves majestically, providing a sense of presence and the impression of real weight. All pieces are moddable for convenience and ease in fitting.
This simple but striking robe and tunic make for quite an imposing appearance. It’s perfect for an excursion to the extensive Apollo sim, your favorite Greco-Roman roleplay, or that upcoming toga party. When I’m all dressed up like this, I want to wave my arm majestically and say in a booming voice, “So let it be written; so let it be done.” Just like Yul Brynner! Except I’m not bald. Oh no, wait, he wasn’t Greek–he was Pharoah of Egypt. Well, he won’t mind.Â
The Hellenic Magister outfit, shown here in white but also available in black, is priced at L$150 for the set.
More elaborate if less royal is Zorena’s Dashing Cossack ensemble. This set includes the following embarrassment of riches: shirt-layer and jacket-layer coat tops, flexiprim coat base (the coat bottom), pants, prim Officer’s Hat, prim sleeve cuffs, both fur and high button collars, and prim epaulets with optional right-shoulder lanyard. The deep black coat is accented by silver-thread trim that runs in a long line from collar to bottom hem, outlining the asymmetrical front closure and accentuating the coat’s long lines–very dashing indeed. The various prim accessories do warrant taking some time and care to get them properly sized for and positioned on your avatar, but the results are well worth the effort–the cuffs and epaulets add dimension to the coat top, and the coat bottom is nicely finished by a prim belt with shiny silver buckle.
The two collar options allow you to dress for summer or winter, and the lanyard can be added if needed to secure your pistol and keep it at the ready…or just for looks.
The Officer’s Hat provides the perfect finishing touch with its glossy crimson band, the only use of color in the outfit–it’s a real standout. I’m already thinking of other things I can wear this hat with…
The Dashing Cossack outfit is available for L$250.
