Review: Jewelry, accessories by Yukirei Greene

I recently came across designer Yukirei Greene’s line of high-quality, high-prim jewelry and accessories and, um, went kind of crazy in her shop. Yukirei has an extensive and growing collection of pieces for both men and women. I’m featuring here just a few pieces that I couldn’t leave without buying for myself. Here you see the Claw Necklace (L$180), an elaborate construction of leather-wrapped cord and fine silver chain. A gleaming ebony claw is suspended from the chain by a delicate filigree cap. The shiny leather cord has an unusual double-loop construction that’s bound to catch a few eyes, and the claw element couldn’t be further from the Seventies versions it should by all rights resemble. You know the ones I’m talking about. Your uncle probably wore one. Mine did.
The Cross Wallet Chain (L$250) features a beautifully wrought, highly decorative chain in shining silver accented by a facet-cut cross. The piece is moddable, so you can size it to fit your avatar, and includes an attached leather-textured prim wallet. Most will probably sink this into their avatar under the back pocket, but if your pants design cooperates you may be able to position it so the wallet just peeks out of your pocket, for little extra realism.
When worn, the chain attaches by default to the pelvis attachment point, but I felt that its movement was more natural when attached to the left upper leg. You may want to experiment with both and see what works best for you.
The strap of the Skull Leather Bracelet (L$170) is made of gleaming tooled black leather, matching the wallet of the Cross Wallet Chain and the cords of the Claw Necklace. It’s studded with metal rings all around and showcases a detailed prim skull, painstakingly fashioned from variously finished metals.
The Arabesque Design Ring (L$120) is cut from a chunk of solid onyx and and features a round-cut white gemstone. For me, the real beauty of this piece lies in the ornate inlay design, which is not a 2-D texture wrapped around the ring base as you might expect–it’s precise primwork. Optional bling can be turned on and off via touch.
The Lot of Skeletons Belt (L$250) may well be the most elaborate accessory item in my inventory. The oversize buckle is decorated with a cluster of skulls matching the design work on the Skull Leather Bracelet. (A coordinating necklace, not featured here, is also available.) Take note of the golden decorations studding the belt strap–those are individually placed prim components, not a texture applied to the belt. As you can imagine, this made for an interesting fitting challenge. You can usually adjust a belt strap for precise fit by selecting Edit Linked Parts while in edit mode and then re-sizing just the strap to fit. That method could not be used for this belt, as the prim decorations would not have stayed with the strap. The only sizing option available was to stretch the entire belt larger or smaller to fit, as this keeps all prim components properly aligned. I found that this didn’t work very well for me as the original belt’s “loop” was shaped for wider hips than mine (and, I suspect, those of most men). Yukirei met me at her shop, saw how the belt didn’t really fit me, and graciously reworked the belt for narrower hips. I think this shape is likely to be a better fit for most men, and Yukirei mentioned that she plans to sell it as a men’s version. Hopefully this will be available in the shop by the time you read this.
Other items in Yukirei’s collection feature dragons, wolves, bats, mermaids and other fantasy figures, as well as beautiful abstract and decorative designs. All items are moddable for size.
All these designs and more, including a wide selection for both men and women, are available at Yukirei Accessories Shop (Plush Rho 141, 48, 25).
