Review: Indigo by Chloris Hathor
I’ve been a fan of Chloris Hathor’s clothing designs for men since I first saw some of her casual denim and leather items, and the plain and plaid shorts she released a while back quickly became favorites of mine. Along the way, she has re-imagined her men’s brand, taking it from an extension of her Threads By Chlo! and GLAM lines to its current independent incarnation as Indigo. Chlo recently released an extensive new collection of menswear and undertook a redesign of her main store, which seems a lot for any one person to take on. She was kind enough to put together a few of her own favorite outfits from the new collection, and those are featured here, along with a few things I especially liked and wanted for myself. With this collection, Chlo’s designs move in a more upscale direction without losing the comfortable, casual appeal of her first designs.
First, Chlo put together her Gray Studded Blazer paired with the Gray Painter Jeans. I’m wearing the blazer with the Black Cardigan and Tie, but the the blazer is also provided in a version with no shirt, so you can layer your own shirt underneath. The jeans are shown with baggy prim pants legs; folded cuffs (not shown) are also included, so you have a choice between different looks. The pants are moddable and can easily be worn without the prim cuffs if you prefer. You have a choice of seven different color cardigans with the blazer, L$95 for singles or L$325 for the set of all seven. The jeans come in a set with nine different belt options, L$250 for the set.
For her second ensemble, Chlo paired the Vuitton Blazer with her Graffiti Jeans. The blazer features Chlo’s trademark velvety, almost liquid fabric texture work, and one casually undone button sets a decidedly informal tone.
These jeans also include optional slightly baggy and folded prim cuffs. The left thigh is decorated with stylized graffiti markings that, along with the contrasting-color stitching, can’t help but catch the eye. Shown here with the Red Striped Polo and Tie, the blazer is available with a selection of six different color polos (each also includes the blazer with no shirt), priced at L$95 for singles, L$300 for the set of all six. The jeans are available for L$250 in a set with nine belt options.
Although the first two are mixed-and-matched from items in the collection, Chlo’s third outfit is actually available as a set. The Gray Denim Jacket with Striped Tee (the jacket is also included with no “attached” shirt) has front patch pockets and features interesting stitchwork detailing on the pockets and collar. The optional prim sweatshirt hood is not shown here, but don’t worry–one is shown below on a jacket/sweatshirt combo.
The Gray Tweed Jeans are simply but carefully textured, with shading that tells you how comfortably faded they are. Optional prim cuffs add a slightly baggy look. The set, which is available in gray and black, includes the jacket (with and without shirt), prim sweatshirt hood, and jeans with a variety of belt selections, all for L$300.
And now for a couple of my own favorites. The Midlength Oxford Shirt comes in seven colors; I’m showing it here in classic white. Again, the vibe is casual rather than dressy–the shirt is worn untucked, the top two buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up for comfort. I love how the fabric appears to flow rather than rumple or wrinkle, and if you look closely you can see that it’s somewhat sheer as well, which gives it a little bit of sexy. Individual shirts are L$90, or you can take home the pack of seven for L$300.
One last item that caught my eye is the Vinyl Jacket, which I’m wearing here with a sweatshirt–it can also be worn with a striped tee or with your own (or no) shirt. Thoughtful detailing includes ribbed cuffs at wrists and waist and the bright line of the jacket’s front zipper.
Sculpted prim hoods in black, gray and white are included to match and contrast with the black and gray sweatshirts. This is one of the nicer hoods I’ve seen–it looks soft and naturally draped, rather than rigid and “stuck on.” The Vinyl Jackets come in four different colors and are priced at L$125 for singles, L$325 for the pack of all four.
Chlo’s new menswear collection includes six new styles of jeans in all, not just the ones shown here, and all are available in sets that include nine different belt options for L$250 per set. If you simply can’t have enough choices, you can spring for the pack of all 54 variations for L$950.
All of these items are available at Indigo (Sunset Arts 42, 175, 23). Be sure to look for the L$1 “freebie” gift box in the shop!
Curse you, Red Baron!
It’s bad enough that most of your recommendations are so good. I wind up going out and purchasing so many that I look like a Ryan fan-boy. But I pride myself on those quality outfits I’ve found that you haven’t mentioned. Now, not for the first time, you’ve taken one of those away from me! I’ve scarcely owned my chocolate-coloured vinyl jacket for a week and — bam — here it is on your blog. You haven’t even had the common decency to choose one of the other three colours!
At least you appear to have missed the bargains up the escalators from the main shops. The Leather Race Jackets in smoke and coffeebean are, if anything, even better than the vinyl jacket. How does Chloris Hathor manage to do Detail Overload while giving the overall impression of soft, glowing, easy on the eye? It’s like: if she went into language learning you’d learn Icelandic grammar all the while thinking you were just listening to a great film soundtrack. Admiration.
But you! I’m warning you right now! Do not go to BareRose haute couture and review their new President set of double breasted suits. I saw them first!
If it wasn’t for this blog, i was still wearing my freebie close
. Nice review, Indigo will thank you for it, i almost bought her entire collection. And Mr Oh, thank you for you comment too, you have given me a nice tip. lol
Good job.
Mr. Oh! Thanks for your kind and encouraging words. I don’t know how Chlo does it, either. Rest assured, it’s not my intent to take away from your originality at all, and anyway I doubt that in any way I could. In any event, what would you think of the possibility of you yourself reviewing the President suits from BareRose? Just an idea. I’m always happy to hear suggestions from readers, and offers to submit a review are even nicer.
Omg the new jeans from here are probably the best I have seen in SL. I bought quite a few pieces from Indigo after the new clothes were first released and I am a big fan of everything I got. Now usually I am used to seeing low quality clothing for high price, but this store has something I have never seen anywhere else, high quality for cheap price. I would give Indigo a 5 stars rating if I could!
ossam very cool ……………………
