Review: Exile by Kavar Cleanslate [2]

This is the second part of a two-part designer review of Kavar Cleanslate’s clothing designs, available at Exile. You can read the first part here.
Let’s just pick up where we left off, hey? Up next is “London Punk” (L$550), an outfit with a distinctive look that for most needs no further description (but pictures are always helpful, so you’re getting some). In the box you get two jackets (one with tartan-and-black sleeves, one sleeveless), a barely-there “spidertrap” shirt, red tartan pants with prim side pockets, black facial jewelry, plus collar, belts and various armbands and legbands. The facial jewelry is linked as a single attachment, so you will need to use Edit Linked Parts to position the various pieces precisely for your avatar–I found this to be fairly simple. This is another of Kavar’s “deluxe sets,” and in addition to the clothing items you also get his “Revenge” mohawk hair style, shown here in blonde with dark tips. This style so reminds me of a guy I knew in high school, who used large quantities of egg whites, dyes and bleach to get his hair to look just like this. I admired his dedication. Right-click-and-wear is much simpler.
The texture detailing on the jackets and pants is impressively detailed, with a mix of fabrics and finishes that make for interesting contrast. I’m wearing the prim pockets sized fairly small here–I modeled the fit after Kavar’s ad artwork–but they have wrap-around straps, buried inside my avatar and invisible here, that can make the pockets look more like strapped-on pouches. I think this look is likely to be more realistically effective if your legs are Sid Vicious skinny.
There are some costumes that are such classics or perennials that it seems like almost everyone has a variation. I am of course talking about togas and Tarzan costumes. How can you possibly plan or attend any self-respecting theme without owning at least one of each? These are such staples that they could well be throw-aways, quickly knocked off for one-time wear, but Kavar’s interpretations show the same care and attention to detail that I noticed in his other designs. The toga costume (L$300) includes shirt-layer toga top, long and short skirt-layer extensions, wrist cuffs with long flexi ribbons, and two sets of flexi hanging sashes for wear on shoulder and hip. Kavar’s costume sets don’t include hair, but here I’m wearing his style called “Knight.”
“Tarzan Boy” is Kavar’s take on the iconic Lord of the Jungle. If the name reminds you of the Eighties hit, don’t blame me. The set includes fur “shirt” and undies with flexi front section, plus various prim accessories including headband, chest straps, armband, and assorted vines. It’s not only fun but sexy. Shown here with the “Reckless” hair style, not quite a pompadour but still a style James Dean might have worn.
Hairstyles are also available separately for L$300 each and include at least four colors: Black, Blonde, Red (shown here) and Brown; some styles may include additional colors or variations.
All permissions are Modify / Copy / No Transfer.
All available at Exile (Ivy Falls 133, 130, 27). Kavar’s designs are also available on SLX and OnRez for easy gift-giving, and he is happy to arrange for inworld delivery of gifts–just drop him a notecard. Although not featured here, the shop also features a variety of individual clothing items such as shirts, jackets and pants.
