Review: Adidas Sneaks
September 16th, 2006 at 11:33am Nicholas Shaftoe
To follow up on BushidoBrown’s post I went and checked out the sneaks and though I’d give you a close look at the shoes.
As he noted these are really the first true to life running shoes. With lots of prims and rich textures, probably sourced from Adidas themselves, these runners look really good.
My only gripe is that while they come in 3 sizes (small being right for women), even the largest size shoe on a size 0 men’s foot, you see the av foot peeking out the side in a few places. Since the shoes are no mod, the only way to fix this is to wear a black or white sock which still breaks through some of the textures. So to River Run Red I say make an XL size.
Also the store is SUPER confusing with black shoe boxes all over and a few shoe samples in odd places, it is very unclear wher you click to buy, how many styles there are, and whether they are unisex or not. In virtual worlds the principles of user centered interface design apply, it can’t be a straight retail design.
At L$50 per pair this is more a marketing ploy then a money maker obviously (you get a popup to the Adidas website on purchase), but whose complaining
They are available in the Adidas sim.

My experience with these shoes is the same as Nick reported–the included shoe (foot) shapes don’t actually make the shoes fit correctly. I experimented with some other shoe shapes I have, that had been provided with other shoes, and some worked better but none were perfect. The included shape indicates that it’s to provide the proper height, which makes sense as these shoes have thick soles. The best compromise I’ve found so far is to wear the shoes without any shoe shape, at foot size zero. My feet don’t poke through, although I also don’t get the little height boost, so in some terrains the soles disappear into the ground. This actually surprises me, because the only other time I’ve had a problem with my feet showing through prim shoes was a pair I bought that came with no shoe shape included. I had to hunt around for a shape that made the shoes look right. This kind of thing is frustrating. Hopefully Adidas will respond to this and provide a better shoe shape to wear with these shoes.

I had no problems with the shoe form, they fitted perfectly (male foot size 0, I used the medium ones)
I had a problem with the scripts in them though…they overwrote my c and PgDn keys, so I could not fly down while wearing them…and maybe, if it is supposed to me A high jump show…zhey could make some kind of AO in the shoes, which makes jumping look more realistic. At least in the borders LL has set.

SL resident Echo Seiga (hope I got the spelling nright–I’m not inworld right now) was kind enough to share with me a shoe form he came up with that makes the Adidas shoes fit better for him. I tried the form and it does eliminate the problem of toes or sides of feet poking through the shoes. It doesn’t entirely resolve the other issue I have, which is my ankles pushing through the sides when my legs shift. This may not be an issue for you and may not matter at all if you only wear these shoes with jeans or pants. Echo is happy to share his shoe form–send me an IM and I’ll be happy to drop a copy in your inventory.
