Pirates: Variations on a theme [1]
Ah, the lonely life of the pirate. There’s something darkly romantic about the idea of the dangerous gentleman (or scoundrel) who make his risky and unconventional living plying the sea lanes for riches, rum, and other desirable commodities. Designer swaffette Firely of SF Design brings her considerable talents to bear on this interpretation of the classic pirate captain’s attire of choice. The new Captain’s Frock Coat (L$180) comes in both Black, as shown here, and a dashing Red. Either will impress the surly midshipman, craven deckhand, or about-to-be-boarded adversary. Clearly, the man wearing this coat is not one to be trifled with.
The Captain’s Frock Coat set includes jacket-layer coat top, lace-up shirt for optional wear under the jacket, flexi coat bottom (both long and short versions), prim collar and prim sleeve cuffs. Prim attachments are moddable, so you can adjust for size and fit. I love the red silk lining of the coat bottom and the impressive weight with which it seems to move. The Red coat is also available as part of the “Pirate Captain” outfit set (L$400), which also includes pants, boots, ruffled shirt, earrings, peg leg, and four pirate-speak gestures.
It doubtless goes without saying that you’ll be needing some appropriate footgear to rule the seas. swaffette’s Pirate Boots (L$180) use sculpted prims for the look of realistically creased and folded leather, and their glossy shine catches the eye without detracting from your menacing scowl. You can almost hear the resounding thuds as you stride authoritatively across the deck. You rogue, you!
All available at SF Design (Innisfree 189, 49, 538).
Photographed at Port Camden (Steeltopia 199, 145, 23).
Note to readers: My original (and clearly far too ambitious) plan was for this to be a three-part post, featuring three variations on the Pirates theme. This didn’t work out so well due to time limitations–my RL job simply is not allowing me enough time for fun stuff like this! So I decided to break this up into three separate posts, which in the end should work just as well and has the benefit of not keeping you waiting. The second and third installments should be published over the next few days. Hey, now it’s a trilogy!ÂÂ
This makes me wish desperately that my SL boyfriend was into pirates! Gorgeous photography.
Oooh Ryan…you make one sexy pirate! That coat is absolutely gorgeous…the red lining is a sweet touch.
I grabbed this and am loving it. The only thing missing from this outfit is some sort of cutlass.
I’ll admit to being lazy and haven’t searched yet, but anyone know of a cutlass retailer?
Arg, Nice look Ryan, can’t wait for the next two installments.
I’m not a weapons expert by any means, but there’s a nice selection of hand weapons, including cutlasses, at Speculaas Weapons (Jinsil 176, 218, 47).
