Outfit: “Mad Love”

January 19th, 2007 at 03:12pm Ryan Darragh

mad_love_full.jpgI’m trying something new here, and a little bit different.  Actually, I’m shamelessly stealing Ben Vanguard’s “Outfit of the Day” concept from his new blog.  I told him that really I wouldn’t be stealing, it would be more of an homage.  He laughed, so I think I’m safe.  ;)

You’ll notice that I’m not calling this an “Outfit of the Day” post–I won’t be doing this every day, but if the response is positive I may do it once in a while.  This is also a perfect opportunity for me to showcase some great new items that I haven’t been able to feature in a dedicated review post.  If you’re interested in trying your hand at something like this for the blog, let me know!

I’m calling this ensemble “Mad Love” after the fantastic tee I started with and built from there.  Both the Mad Love shirt and Muddy Cut Tyler Jeans pictured here are by designer Rhyph Somme and are available at Sidewalk (formerly RS Creations) at Isabella 102, 21, 123.  The graphic and artistic design on this shirt are gorgeous, from the rough-edged band of the knit collar to the subtle torso contouring and detailing.  My mama always told me that redhead boys shouldn’t wear red clothes, but I think we can cut her some slack there–after all, she’s never seen me quite like this.

mad_love_watch_jeans.jpgThe jeans have a truly scruffy look and feel, with some beautifully realistic rips and scuffs in the fabric.  Clearly you’ve had this pair a long time, loved them well, nearly worn them out, but can’t bear to let them go.  Here you also see the Nightstalker wristwatch, by Luv and Aveline Stein (previously reviewed), which adds some interesting high-tech contrast with its sharp, clean edges and jet black casing.

mad_love_shirt_necklace.jpgA simple shirt is the perfect ground for a more elaborate piece of jewelry than you might otherwise wear.  I decided to go with Mhaijik Guillaume’s new Gold and Wood Pendant for its rich design and inspired blend of?natural materials.  Mhaijik’s line of gorgeous jewelry designs for men is available at Mhaijik Things (Pheosia 56, 227, 152).  She has an amazing selection of pieces for women, too, in case you’re shopping for a gift for that special lady.

mad_love_headshot.jpgThe color scheme of this outfit also gave me the perfect opportunity to wear the flame-red “Momo” hairstyle just released by Mystikal Faddoul (and reviewed here).  In a nice bit of serendipity, this standout red resulted in a new friendship last night while I was strutting around and showing it off.  It also prompted me finally to create the group Redheads of SL, so if you too are a redhead (natural or from a bottle, it doesn’t matter), look us up and join!  We plan to take over the world, if we can get ourselves organized.  :D

mad_love_shoes.jpgLast but certainly not least–the shoes.  I thought about some simple red sneaks, but then decided that something funkier was called for.  I dug through my inventory and came up with these Gecko Walkers.  Success!  The intricate texture of the upper, thick black sole, and detailed laces make for a fun and funky design, and the deep red-brown color is a perfect match for the jeans and shirt.  The Gecko Walkers are designed by Leyla Firefly and available at Gecko Clothing (Boulevard Mystique 166, 87, 24).

And there you have “Mad Love.”  Feel free to put this together for yourself, or better yet use it as a jumping-off place and build your own original ensemble!

Ben and I are talking about the possibility of exchanging “guest appearances” between the two blogs as well. Our goal is to be partners and not competition. I hope all of our readers enjoy both sites!

Ryan, great new addition. It’s gonna be great. In the design world we call this “creative appropriation”. HI5!

Hi Butterly - You should contact Mystikal Faddoul yourself in-world, so she can work with you on this. She may not see your comment here, as she is not directly involved with this site, so you should IM her personally. Thanks for reading! :)

I am loving this watch. Still thinking about the rest of the outfit though. Not sure the colors go with my skin tone. But it all looks fab on you Ryan. Keep up the good work. Love your blog!

    xoxoxo,

Kerik , you’re absolutely right - it’s important to consider your skin tone when you’re putting together an outfit. (Trinny and Susanna would tell you the same thing, trust me.) I couldn’t wear these strong reds with my Naughty Designs skin - there’s too much pink in the skin tone. These colors probably work best with lighter skins that have less red in the coloring. I can’t say enough good things about Zabitan Assia’s male skins at FORM Gear, and his lighter tones go to very light but are still realistic. Thanks for reading - and commenting! :D
