There is a Chinese proverb, “the Truth is perfect like the vastness of space, with nothing wanting, nothing superfluous”. This pearl of wisdom aptly describes TRUTH by Truth Hawks, an up-and-coming designer whose growing brand is sure to become a fashion industry mainstay. It’s one of those secret finds you want to keep to yourself, but sheer excitement will not allow you.
His shop, containing a collection of fresh and simple men’s and women’s casual apparel, has garnered him a dedicated following within a relatively short period of time. Word about the brand is spreading solely through word-of-mouth and the buzz is surely a result of his experience as a 3D texture artist in the real world. Truth’s clothing is highly detailed and incorporates his own style of texture light sourcing. The interlocking knit-weave of the Body Fit [Blk] (pictured left) and Body Fit Geisha shirts have a very tactile appearance, evoking warm thoughts of your favourite sweater. The resulting naturality is sure to provoke your significant other(s) to want to stroke the fabric while you wear these. That statement is based on research.
The style follows a trend of designers that are making clothing with a previously-worn quality, lending itself to a certain intimacy. We all have that pair of jeans, threadbare at the knees, that’s worn over and over again, yet we refuse to throw it out and buy another. Our emotional attachment to the article won’t allow us to. The desire of consumers in SL to have products that give the impression of everyday wear-and-tear speaks volumes of the degree to which we personalize the virtual environment which we have chosen to inhabit. TRUTH makes fashion fixation easy. The touchable feel of his clothing translates into a comfort and familiarity, which can particularly be seen in the aforementioned shirts as well as his distressed denims with their rips and greasy hand prints.
Post 1980s, midriff exposure was no longer considered to be a mainstream option for the casual male. Though some have fallen prey to that particular hellhound, with TRUTH you won’t have to worry. Shirts have been created in the jacket layer for added length. Styles currently available in-store include tight-to-body long sleeves with knit or ribbing, crisp polos, athletic tee-and-tank combos, and more. Additionally, several pairs of jeans in various stages of fatigue and a tintable blazer can also be found hanging on the industrial walls of TRUTH’s fashion gallery store.
All profound sayings, maxims or utterances aside, the beauty in this clothing is that it speaks for itself. It’s honest, it’s intimate, and it has a relatable quality that makes it appealing. TRUTH, like its designer, is down-to-earth, informal, and frank. Though truth itself can’t be bought or sold you can secure yourself some candid clothing @ UnderCity (85/150/25).
* FYI: Men, you have a responsibility to inform your female counterparts of the quality of Truth Hawks’s work. You can refer the femmes to TRUTH’s women’s collection as covered by Grazia Horwitz on the Second Style Women’s review blog. Show them chivalry is not dead by courteously TPing them to the store and treating them to an outfit or two.
