New @ Tonktastic - Biker Boots Xtreme

Tonktastic is one of those stores not many people seem to know. In fact, to my big surprise I noticed that none of the men’s fashion blogs I visit ever reviewed one of Tonk Tomcat’ s items before. For me it all started when I was looking for a trenchcoat. I found the perfect one at Tonktastic several months ago and since then I have returned there regularly to spend my hard earned lindens.
A few days ago I noticed that under the banner New, he had placed three types of Biker Boots. Considering that I spent my first 3 months in Second Life in a biker bar, I decided I just had to have these. When I mentioned to Tonk that I wanted to review the boots, he was very enthusiastic and immediately gave me a free pair of the Xtreme version.
And if you’re like me, you love anything extreme. Either way, the boots are released in three versions. Or 2 versions really, of which one in 2 colors. First off you have the Xtreme version which I’m covering in this review, only available in black. These are based on a basic biker boot, but have additional belts and buckles. It gives them a slightly gothy look in my mind.
The other version is a standard biker boot, available in black and in brown. They look like the Xtreme version without the belts. Each version shares the huge amount of detail and sense of quality Tonk claims to strive for in all his items.
Tonk’s boots come in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Large. The boots are no-modify/copy/no-transfer. The 3 sizes should ensure that the boots fit every normal human avatar, but there’s 0 L$ demo versions available to test them if you’re not certain about buying non-modify prim items.
The Xtreme boots clock in at an impressive 328 prims each (160 for the foot, 168 for the calf). If you zoom closely around them, you can see the love of detail that was placed into each prim. The soles alone are already around 30 prims. The textures show the same detail as the prims. Especially if you zoom in on the metal parts on the front you’ll notice this. The metal bar is covered in scratches, dirt and grass stains. Visually the designer here definitely succeeded in giving the boots a realistic, slightly worn appearance.
The boots also include 4 footstep sounds that you can pick through a menu. When you left click the left foot, you can choose between spurs, wood, dirt, cement, or disable the sounds. The same menu also allows you to change the speed of the footstep sound to make it fit your AO completely. The sounds are quite good, but to my tastes they’re too loud. I personally love footstep sounds, but if I enable these they overpower all the background sounds of my home and garden.
Each version of the boots costs 500L$ for a set of all three sizes. They are available at TonkTastic (SLUrl).
