New: This Week in Men’s Fashion: March 25-31, 2007

It’s often difficult to balance one’s real life with one’s Second Life pursuits. As a reviewer I am often riddled with a guilty conscience when I am unable to complete product coverage on some of the great items I view on a weekly basis. I can only imagine whether Ryan and Ben also suffer from Reviewer’s Remorse Syndrome (RRS) or not.

Efforts to soothe my inner turmoil have given rise to ‘This Week in Men’s Fashion’ where I hope to give concise overviews on some of the quality goods popping up all over the grid that enhance the male shopping experience. Through commenting, please lend us your thoughts on this trial component for the blog.

With that being said, let’s take a look this week’s offerings by:

bodypolitik_snapshot_001.jpgThe Body Politik by Maximillion Grant
Logo Tees (1L)

The ‘by Max’ (Maximillion Grant) and Skin Deep (Polly Pavlova) franchises that have long been offering skins and modifiable avatar shapes for men and women under the same roof as two separate stores. Maximillion and Polly announced earlier this week that they have merged the two into a single one-stop shopping experience for body sculpting: The Body Politik. The reinvented brand name will continue to offer the same products and service in addition to adding new items to the product portfolio. Store expansion is a definite on the list of upcoming to-dos.

To mark the occasion Maximillion has created a 7-pack of promotional tees that come in shirt and jacket versions as solid colours or duotoned ringers in grey, maroon, olive and white (tintable) as well as baby blue/navy, black/white (tintable), and brown/baby blue.

bodypolitik_snapshot_002.jpgYou can’t beat a finely textured product for 1L. The detailed texturing enhances the delineation of the shirt’s anatomical character (do I see hint of nip?), adding to the lighting’s dramatic effect. Promo baby tees are also available at 1L for the ladies in alternate colours.

Available @ Eventide South (59, 212, 35).

renown_snapshot_006.jpgRenown by Jesseaitui Petion
“Realistic Boxers” (45L single or 200L 5-pack)*

Jesse continues to amplify the types of products offered in his portfolio. First there were tats, then came clothing, then skins. It’s good to see that the momentum behind the three-month-old clothing store hasn’t diminished. This week the brand released open button-down shirts as well as these conservative boxer briefs. The simplicity in colour and cut is subtle and poetic. You can almost picture yourself laying around the house on a lazy Saturday afternoon in these while you read the sports section of the newspaper.

Underwear comes in delicate shades of blue, green, grey, red and white which can be bought as singles at 45L each or in a value pack with all five colours at 200L – each coming with a pants and underpants layer version.

To discreetly encourage your boyfriend or best friend to give up that ratty pair of briefs with the gnawed out waist band gift versions available in special gift vendor just behind the main one in-store (look for the “Buy Gifts Here” signage). Hopefully, Jesse will follow these up with some fun prints.

Available @ Aitui (200, 175, 27).

* These items were actually released on the 23rd, but I had to squeeze them in as I’m always on the lookout for good men’s undergarments.

sinistyle_snapshot_001.jpgSiniStyle Design by Krius Misfit
Double O Nothing Shirts (100L)

A definite throwback to the 1960s, the tuxedo t-shirt has been described as a lot of things – but rarely with the class it attempts to channel in its cotton-polyester blend. What is lacks in sophistication it makes up for in graphic strength – the visual elements require no explanatory text. The image speaks for itself. Make no mistake; you won’t find yourself sipping dry martinis at the cigar club amongst a coterie of influential acquaintances in this shirt. A more likely scenario finds you in a back alley chugging a 40 oz. beside a rusted out dumpster just before an attempt to crash some poor sap’s trailer warming down the street. Playing off the backsliden panache of the shirt’s medium versus its message, Krius Misfit brings us his interpretation of the kitschy tux tee.

sinistyle_snapshot_002.jpgIt’s definitely a fun piece to add to one’s wardrobe. It can be dressed up to be dorky or edgy depending on your personal style philosophy.

The shirt pack offers black and white tees in regular and “aged”, tucked shirt layer and untucked jacket layer versions (8 shirts in total). The stark black or white options allow for nicely defined and noticeable contrast shading.

Available @ Mechozilla (198, 211, 43).

truth_snapshot_008.jpgTRUTH by Truth Hawks
Polos (175L/pack)

Truth Hawks consistently churns buttery goodness out of his fashion haus to whet your palate. His current release is a set of four polos that come packaged in two sombre colours: navy and maroon. Polos come tucked in the shirt layer and untucked in the jacket layer. A plain style is available as well as three additional graphic themed shirts with imagery scrawled across the chest: “Beware”with chilling contrast outlined skull-and-crossbones, “Two” with degraded numeral rendering and “Urban” with graffitti’d wallscape graphics.

truth_snapshot_009.jpgNotice, as always, that the fibrey fabric detailing that TRUTH is well known for offers a believably “breathable” look. Customers are treated to primo texturing from Mr. Hawks who, this week, treated his update group to “Nuked”, a pair dirty denims. Membership does have its priviledges, ladies and gentlemen. Several variations of the dirties jeans, which you can glimpse in the image to the left, are available for purchase in-store.

Available @ Plush Altstadt (98, 102, 497).

Wow. Oscar, thanks for reading. We value our readers and their feedback (well, the non-griefing ones at least).

Make sure you hold on to some of those Ls. This week’s column is only six days away!

Have to admit I missed your reviews Catero. Good to see you’re finding your way around the craziness that is RL (and SL for that matter) to still contribute. Now I’ve got to go shopping again! LOL

Thanks for the input, Jesse and Ryan. Much appreciated. I’m hoping this component works well and can benefit both reviewers and readers alike. Due to real world and SL time constraints/commitments its hard to give all the great releases the attention they’re due.

(FYI, I really am looking forward to additional prints/styles for the undies. I’m partial to tropical themes, myself.)

It would be great to have present and future reviewers contribute in partnership to this particular column as needed.

I can’t believe nobody else noticed it said May instead of March! Or maybe they did, and just let it slide… ;)

PMG! I can’t believe that I didn’t notice that! What was I drinking? Nvm. Don’t answer that.

Thanks, Blackie, for catching that and Ryan for making the change.

(Blackie, are you looking for a job as a proofreader? You’re hired.)
