New: This Week in Men’s Fashion: April 22-28, 2007
April 29th, 2007 at 08:54pm Catero Revolution

Posting on a Sunday again. I might have to make this a part of the usual ritual.
This week some counter culture hair and apparel made their way into the retail market, allowing avies to let down or muss up their hair, salvage stuff from the dirty clothes hamper, and adorn themselves in the non-traditional if they so choose. Not everyone wants to look as though they got lost on their way to a Club Monaco photo shoot. SL designers have been great lately in putting out products for residents who want to highlight their non-standard, unusual or just regular down-to-earth features. Aged skin, thinning hair, shapes with wider waistlines and a host of other items for ordinary people.
I’m feeling a little rant moment coming on. I promise it’ll be short. <start rant> Ours is a world where you can choose to be one of a bajillion different types of fantastical creatures - chibi fox, dragon, jogauni, phoenix, sphinx, etc. - but if you wanted to be a Filipino guy in a traditional barong tagalog or a Polynesian guy in a comfortable lavalava you would be faced with severely limited choices. Am I the only one that thinks that’s a little odd?</end rant>
I look forward to the coming weeks and months where we continue to recognize and reflect our diversity in-world. I hope you do too.
Releases at: Cake [Civvies] Wearables FNKY! Gritty Kitty Million Dollar Skin Lab Mystikal Hair Designs ? Contest: Skin to win @ Aitui Tattooo & Piercing
Cake by Stumbelina Ophelia
Vancouver Jeans (150L each or 500L/8-pack)
Cut yourself a little slice of Van City with 8 new denims from from Cake in faded blue, aqua, stone, faded black, dirty blue, dirty black, dirty grey, and dirty stone. Stumbelina encourages patrons to “Unleash your inner hipster/hippie/slacker today”, replacing the sex, drugs and rock-and-roll philosophy with that of vegan tree-hugging pride. Throwing back to a time when people fought war with poignant folk songs and peaceful protests the jeans are stitched with scattered drawings as well as travellers and other patches. In true peacenik fashion, the jeans are conservatively smudged with dirt and grime from that time you were planting soy beans amongst your organic crop.
If you’re considering buying more than two denims you might as well go the extra mile and put down an extra 200L and buy the 8-pack (you save 700L). For your convenience loose and skinny pant versions are included.
Available @ FNKY Cake Island (128, 45, 25).

[Civvies] Wearables by Posy Trudeau
Skull Crusher Boots (275L)
If you were just thinking to yourself that your wardrobe doesn’t contain nearly enough bone fragments as you’d like, Posy Trudeau has created the footwear of your dreams. Bikers can assert their badassery, necromancers can show off their jungle voodoo and head hunters can display their butchery skills with a dirty pair of scuffed boots liberally decorated with osseous matter. The black leather boots are toe-capped with pygmy-sized skulls and decorated with cross-bones at the tongue and on the soles.
When shown to a friend they commented, “They are totally funny [and] awfully well made”. Another said, “They are well made. Creepy as hell”.
If that’s the look you’re going for smear yourselves in some chicken blood, rend your sackcloth and make a sojourn to [Civvies] Wearables where you can grab a pair of these and then jump someone’s bones for better or worse. Boots are available in both men’s and women’s versions.
Available @ Redear (248, 221, 496).

FNKY! by Funk Schnook
“Antonio” Skins - new additions (1,750L or 10,000/set)
For those who’ve bought in to the recently released FNKY! line of athletic skins and those who appreciate the overall look but were looking for eye makeup or a darker tone, Funk has just released 10 more face options to the existing “Antonio” skins in addition to providing a more ebonied tone available in all 20 faces. “Antonio’s” new faces include more stubble selections as well as eyeliner and make-up which may appeal to the goth, emo and scene crowd.
Keep in mind that these skins have been specifically textured with lines that show well on avatars with broad chests and narrow hips. The look on each av will vary depending on your shape, so make sure you try the 1L demos. More info can be gleaned on this particular product from Ryan’s earlier review (where he found the skin to favourably compliment his smaller shape) as well as my own.
Available @ FNKY Cake Island (128, 45, 25).

Gritty Kitty by Noam Sprocket
“Needles” Hair (150L each)
Musical influences have once again brought consumers a unique hairstyle that really stands out. Literally. Provoked by JRock culture, Noam has created a brambly fauxhawk with two texture variations to choose from - a monotone that comes in 14 colours and a black-on-colour duotone called “Halftone” in 14 colours. The hair barbs running along the center of the head are relatively short and up-combed.
“Halftone” has a single colour stripe running from the center of the forehead down to the nape of the neck with wispy swatches fringing the sides.
Available @ Koreshan (61, 23, 24).

Million Dollar Skin Lab by Hybel Koba
Blonde Male Skin (900L) and Premium 10-skin pack (2,700L)
Providing some variance from their initial brunette series of photorealistic skins, Hybel Koba has expanded the line to appeal to blondes. The first available facial option at this point is the “Fu Manchu”. I’m sure consumers can expect this single lighter hair option to soon match the selection of darker hairs.
In addition, the store has now packaged his brunette skins in a 10-skin set at a severely reduced price. Purchasers would save over 6,000L buying the pack as opposed to buying multiple singles.
As with all MDSL skins, this week’s products have a modifiable skin tone which can be adjusted through Appearance Mode. Chest hair options are also available.
Koba claims to be “one of the three most natural male skins in-game”, you can take him up on his assertion by trying on a 2L demos and judging for yourself.
Available @ Ifrit (254, 19, 30).

Mystikal Hair Designs by Mystikal Faddoul
“Grown Out” @ 250L each
Miss Faddoul’s latest hair creation is for the guys and dolls who want to look as though they’ve missed a few appointments with their barber or stylist. Somewhere between getting your last cut and deciding whether to take advantage of the length “Grown Out” happened. The shaggy head of hair is available in 20 colours rendered with the high gloss texturing that Mystikal is known for. The sides and bands contain flexi pieces that highlight the hair’s overgrown sway.
