Following some constructive and pointed feedback from our valued readers the format of this segment as been slightly adjusted. You are really making me work for this. But I enjoy a good challenge. Items have been arranged in categories and descriptions have been made more concise (3 to 5 short sentences each). Due to time and resource constraints designer-created images have been used in the product highlights. If there are any further comments you may have on the changes please feel free to post.

Is it any wonder that this was also a week that was rife with male fashion content? We’ve got a fairly diverse round-up with amongst the categories in addition to two sales. And of course I felt obligated to write about the quality products I saw and/or tried on.

random_snapshot_003.jpg[Random] by Garbage Prototype
“Fernando” and “Jack” hair (150L each, 350L/5-pack, 550L/10-pack, 950L/15-pack)

Spike it up or flick it down with Garbage’s two most recent additions to his single dye hair product line. Both are short and assymetrical, in keeping with Garbage’s usual touch. Thus far, “Fernando” is the first in this current generation of styles to stroke upwards and away from the face. The cuts are in freestyle spirit - seeming to have been deliberately disarrayed with the usual styling products. 1L demos in-store.

Available @ Louise (56, 113, 651).

Black in black with a two more more hairstyles from the creator of Aitui and Renown. The styles follow in his usual dark and mysterious tone of short hair cuts. “Convincing” partially obscures the face and “Shaggy” offers full facial coverage. The wispy styles are available only in black and can be tried before purchase with a 1L demo.

Question for a fashion person. Where could I get some 18th century men’s clothing? Thanks

  • 2. Ryan Darragh  |  May 15th, 2007 at 12:35 pm

Although this isn’t my area of greatest familiarity, I’ll offer a couple of suggestions, one general, the other more specific. (1) Do some exploring and shopping in the themed Caledon sims. I’m betting you’ll find some clothing that’s right up your alley. If you see people wearing styles you like, ask where they bought them! (2) Check out Keth Mommsen’s shop, Eros Designs. I have bought two or three things here and reviewed one. Although perhaps not specifically 18th-century, Keth’s designs are beautiful, appealing and might just work for you.

Marion, 18th century men’s clothing is such a specialized area of fashion that it’s pretty much non-existent (and I’m assuming you’re interested in the “Western” trend). So, a majority of what I have to share here may be of no use to you. In all likelihood, you’ll have to piece together elements from different designers. You may also have to get creative and mod pants into shorter breeches and make your own tights in appearance mode. As Victorian fashion is more common in SL and shares some aesthetics you may have to borrow pieces from this era.

Here are some designers who you may want to look into. I highly suggest you find a designer whose style you like and ask them if they do customs (if so, provide them with an image reference to work from).

Edward Pearse (Pearse’d & Cut): Waistcoats, trousers, frock coats.
Ghanie Lane (Ghanie Gear @ Skidz Partz): Dune/Sci-fi gear with some quaker elements that can be pieced together as peasant clothing.
Mako Magellan (Apparel by Mako Magellan): Waistcoats, tailcoats (not highly detailed).
Terry Lightfoot (Avalanche, Lightfoot and Sputnik): Cravats, waistcoats, dress shirts.
Yuriko Muromachi (Silver Rose Designs): “The Alchemist” and “The Wizard” outfits (dress shirt w. collar, tailcoat, pants) in a variety of accent colours.

As Ryan has suggested, take a look at Keth’s shop and the Caledon Victorian themed sims (there’s more than one) as well as Babbage Square.

Nothing much to comment but just showing my appreciation to Catero for the improved weekly digest. Cheers to you man!

  • 5. Wrath  |  May 15th, 2007 at 3:39 pm

I haven’t had a chance to visit the store and check out the notecard yet, but are those prices for Nylon Pinkey’s work correct - L$3,000 for a tattoo, yet only L$2,800 for a partial custom skin?

I didn’t realize tattoo prices were that high, even for custom ones, but more than a skin?

  • 6. Catero Revolution  |  May 15th, 2007 at 7:02 pm

Yes, sir, Wrath. Those are the correct starting prices for her current services. I will drop you a notecard with the full info.

  • 7. Aidan Recreant  |  May 15th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

Marion, I couldn’t get inworld to answer this, but I found some outfits and stores through SLExchange.

Eros Designs has an outfit called “Chardon” that comes in a variety of colors. “Baron” is also available.

“Blue Brocade” by Raven Page includes the white wig and everything.

All respect to Cat and Ryan, but 18th century isn’t Victorian. It covers everything from Cavalier to Marie Antoinette. (Yes, I’m a costume geek. Shoot me now.) The Victorian era started in the mid 1800s, or the 19th century.

Mmm, and now I have to hit Eros for some good gothwear…

  • 8. Aidan Recreant  |  May 15th, 2007 at 7:42 pm

Hmm, my previous comment isn’t showing up. Just in case it does later, let me clarify that Cat indeed did have the right era in mind, hence his advice to mod pants into breeches. *slams drawer on head* That is all.

Oh wait, just in case it doesn’t show up, here’s a store that has some 18th century men’s outfits:

Eros Designs (look for “Chardon” and “Baron”)

“Blue Brocade” by Raven Page has the peruke and everything. I can’t get inworld at the moment, but that’s the page on SLExchange.

“I didn’t realize tattoo prices were that high”

-Judging from what Cat wrote it seems she will hand draw it.

3k is about $10.50 USD. So im not sure if 3k is her STARTING price, but if its going to take her around an hour to draw it..that is a reasonable price. If its 3k for ANY custom (eg something small and standard like your lovers name), there are others who offer cheaper services. You just have to look around and make sure its someone who can offer quality work. Try search all for “Custom Tattoos”

    “but more than a skin?”

-I can`t speak for her but my guess would be.. Her PARTIALLY custom skins are 2.8 k. which is also reasonable ( i guess). Its probably easier for her to add a little here and there on the skin, then it is to draw a tattoo from scratch..this would explain why the custom tat is a bit more expensive.

Whereas her FULLY custom skin has a huge leap on price..of 10k. She has to basically start from scratch, and you`re probably going to own exclusive rights to it so… You have to expect to dish out more money.

The new-and-improved weekly look is just swell—so readable, scan-able. Thanks for being so adaptable. I really really like it, especially the gold and blue differentiation of the text on the bulleted points.
What a fun digression in the comments, too, on the 18th c. garb. Now I have lots more cool places to explore. You guys are great!

  • 11. sachi Vixen  |  June 8th, 2007 at 4:43 am

Marion, you might like to try the costumes in my male section at adam n eve for 18th century, particularly Dandy Highwayman and Calico Jack.

  • 12. sachi Vixen  |  June 8th, 2007 at 4:46 am

And don’t forget Silent Sparrow for 18th c mens!
