New: Sprocket Suit @ Silent Sparrow
February 22nd, 2008 at 04:33pm Mr. Oh
It’s been months since I showed you around hyasynth Tiramisu’s Silent Sparrow collection for men. Since then, she’s released several wonderful outfits for men and remodelled her sim and shop. I’m told by reliable sources that it’s totally amazing if you use the Windlight viewer. There’s a big reopening party planned for this weekend.
The most fabulous of the new releases is a new steampunk era suit called Sprocket. It comes in 6 flavours; I chose ‘dusk,’ the purple one (but couldn’t resist some extra colours, as you’ll see). The folder contained a jacket garment with prim jacket tails for men and for women, two pairs of trousers, two shirts (on the undershirt layer) with dusk-coloured ties/cravats painted on, and a dusk-coloured waistcoat/vest (on the shirt layer).
The jacket is a lovely period piece. If you’re an admirer of Vincente Shepherd’s Gaslight Emporium, you’ll feel comfortable with the general shape and cut. The prim tails flounce nicely on any movement and there’s an air of respectability about the garment. It is in deep charcoal grey, with some details in black that you’ll miss the first few times you look at it: what looks like a set of victorian buildings subtly picked out on the back of the jacket and a set of three gears on each of the collars. In many lightings these are but suggestions.
The trousers, like the jacket, are the same no matter which colour suit you buy. Pair two seems to be simple black (unless there’s some subtle pattern that eludes me even in bright lights. But pair one… ah pair one. These are my favourite striped trousers in all of Second Life. Dark charcoal with yet darker charcoal stripes they are the perfect trouser with any dark jacket, for without calling undue attention to themselves they highlight and flatter the edges and shape of the jacket and provide a neutral but not boring counterpoint to most tops. High waisted, you can use them with any top you own.
Two dress shirts are provided on the undershirt level. One is black the other is white. Each has a coloured cravat — in my case, dusk. Then there is a matching dusk waistcoat on the shirt layer. These pieces are the epitome of hyasynth Tiramisu’s work. This is art, not photography. Are you really wearing a shirt or are you wearing an exquisite jewel-like watercolour painting of a shirt? And the vest shows off her deservedly famous talent for brocaded patterns.
You may feel you’d like the suit in several colours. Since it is only the shirt(s) and waistcoat that differ from suit to suit, hyasynth has provided packages for buying just those pieces. First choose whether you want a white shirt or a black shirt base. When you buy a suit, you get black and white, but when you buy the add-on package, you must choose. Once you’ve chosen black or white, you then choose one of the three pairs of colours. Scarlet and ash are one possibility, moss and sepia are the second and dusk and cloud are the third. If you know you’re going to want several colours, you may wish to think the combinations through carefully before buying the suit.
I don’t see how anyone can resist the scarlet and ash combination. The black-grey brocade waistcoat is going to be a garment you can use in lots of outfits. So, in fact, you might want one or more of these packages even if you don’t want a complete Sprocket suit.
Sprocket suit in a single colour costs 450L$; each add-on colour-pair package costs 250L$. Not all the pieces are available at all branches, but you will find them all at the newly refurbished main store: silent sparrow (182, 93, 604). You should be sure to also visit the new shop on the Rue D’Antibes (185, 55, 28), however. There, for a limited time, you can get a “dreaded sunny” freebie version in two alternative colours: maroon and midnight blue (some of the pieces in the freebie folder are women-only, but the shirts and waistcoat are unisex).
Photos taken upstairs at the Babbage “Bow Street Train Depot,” (there’s a Silent Sparrow branch store downstairs), Babbage Canals (40, 172, 26).
