New: Sign of Bondage @ BareRose Tokyo

October 8th, 2007 at 08:19pm Ryan Darragh

sign_of_bondage_black_front.jpgThe grown-ups who remember things from Before call their place the Wastelands.  He and his friends grew up in it, played in it, staged their mock battles in it.  They just call it the Junkyard.  And the way the grown-ups all grumble about how bad things are–what’s so bad?  The Junkyard is full of things to play with, and smash, and burn.  Amazing things, some that look like great metal birds…why?  Maybe there’s not always enough food to go around, but nobody ever dies from hunger.  Not any more, not for a long time.  Things are getting better, really.  If you think about it.

The grown-ups say such strange things, especially when they think the children aren’t listening.  What’s a madmax, anyway?  Why do their voices sound so funny when they talk about it?  “Just like madmax, without the cars.”  What does that mean?  No one will say.  He does know what a car is.  He has seen them in the Junkyard, rusted-out metal boxes.  He has pulled off their round shoes to burn, or sometimes to make shoes for himself.  Not that he really needs them–his feet are tough.

sign_of_bondage_black_full.jpgNot just shoes, either.  He’s been making his own clothes as long as he can remember, from old clothes other people don’t wear any more, or from scraps he finds when he’s out exploring.  He sometimes finds good stuff wrapped around old, dry people bones.  That used to bother him, but it doesn’t any more.

His red hair is going to get him in trouble someday.  That’s what people say, anyway.  It’s too easy to spot–makes him stand out.  In defiance, he decided to add some red fabric and brightly colored things to his clothes.  He doesn’t mind being easy to see.  Let them spot him, for all the good it will do.  He can still run fast as anyone, faster than most.  His mother says that his eye-rish temper will get him in trouble before his hair does.  He doesn’t know what “eye-rish” means, but his mother is usually right about things, so he supposes she’s right about this, too.  He plans to watch his temper, just in case.

sign_of_bondage_black_black.jpgIt’s been hot lately, no clouds and the sun just a giant ball of heat in the sky most days, and they’re starting to worry about the water.  The ground is cracking, which makes it more challenging and so more fun to run across, but their food plants aren’t growing so well.  He’s thinking about volunteering to make the trek to the closest settlement to see if their well has dried up yet–maybe they still have water to spare.  If so, maybe they’ll share.  If they aren’t feeling generous, he and his people might have to make their visit during the night and take what they need…or be more persuasive.

It’s exciting to be alive.  Sometimes it’s scary, too.

sign_of_bondage_red_detail1.jpgDesigner June Dion’s collection of themed apparel at BareRose Tokyo might just be unparalleled in SL.  It’s not just impressive but atonishing in its wide range, attention to detail, and reasonable prices.  Her new “Sign of Bondage” outfit is flexible enough to fit into either your favorite post-apocalyptic scenario or adventurous daily wear.

The pack includes components in two color combinations, Red and Darkice (shades of black and grey), which you can wear as two simple variations, or mix and match the pieces to create your own unique outfit.  Each outfit is made up of shirt and pants clothing items, plus a selection of prim attachments–some sculpted, some flexi–for the arms, legs, neck, and waist.

sign_of_bondage_red_detail2.jpgThe prim attachments are liberally studded with safety pins, buttons and patches, ribbons, and other found items.  Bits and strips of fabric are woven and tucked throughout the garments, and flexi scraps flutter at the waist like trophies.  The look is one of a “work in progress” caught at a specific moment in its evolution.

“Sign of Bondage” comes in a ladies’ version as well.  Red and Purple variations are included in this set.

Available for L$150 at BareRose Tokyo (Bare Rose 146, 12, 30).

Sounds like the beginning of a novel. And one I’d like to read! Enjoyed it :)

When people ask me what it is that I like so much about Second Life, this garment and (perhaps even more so) this post will be one of the artifacts I produce to explain myself.

That is an amazing outfit - and Ryan thanks for wearing Nikki! Looks great with that outfit. Really enjoyed the post by the way, one of the best things about SL is the ability to really use our imaginations.

This is a nice look for you, Ryan. BareRose products always come with great little details and are very articulated.
