New Series: Blogger Style Throwdown!

August 4th, 2008 at 07:35am Express Zenovka

So about a month ago I had this great idea for a new type of post on the site. I thought it was a cool idea, but experience has told me that what I think is a good idea usually isn’t. So I went around and asked a bunch of people if they thought it was a good idea. Now, they were probably lying, but they said it was a great idea. But then, one night, I threw my pitch at a friend and instead of saying it was a great idea, he said it was an awesome idea. And then he proceeded to tell me what he understood of the idea, which was nearly nothing. On the other hand, his interpretation, a similar but rather different idea was in my eyes a much better one. So, with his blessing, I’m stealing his idea.

Now, you might be wondering what this great idea is. I call it “blogger style throwdown.” Here’s the basic idea: I challenge a random blogger to dress in a certain style under a certain budget. Kinda simple, huh? I was going to limit myself to male bloggers, but then realized there are only about 10 of us. So instead, any SL blogger is a potential competitor. I give em two weeks to come up with their outfit and a half of a post where they can argue their case. Now, the fun part is how we decide the winner.

You readers get to judge. There will be a fun little poll at the end of every post, and you get to vote for me or the other blogger. The poll will be open for two weeks while I’m busy competing with the next victim err..blogger. That said, the first post in the series will be coming out later today so bloggers count yourselves warned.

And for those of you who like reading my other posts — don’t worry. I’ll still be covering freebies as well, I’ve just been a bit busy with RL stuff recently and then I started working on this.

This sounds like a lot of fun :)

I’m game if you need competitors.

Never heard of such an adventurous competition since the Gordon Bennett cup :-)

This is a great idea. I’m looking forward to seeing what your guest columnists come up with!

I read Men’s Second Style for men’s fashion. There are dozens of blogs, websites, and webzines catering to women’s fashion in SL. Please stay focused on male avatars.

And I realize it’s a throwaway line, but if you really think there are only 10 men blogging about SL, you need to apply the same creativity and persistence to researching the SL blogosphere as you do to your freebie outfits!

Looking forward to seeing the clash of the fashionistas and fashionistos, Exp.

I accept your throwdown, and I’ll even do it as my male avie, Lucien.

    This’ll be fun! Thanks!!!

I agree on keeping it male and why only bloggers , this would be a fantastic way for men to show their style. Which could be in part to the fabulous items you have blogged in the past.

Many female bloggers have male avatars , partners or friends that they could even showcase, I think Male only is the way to go, men find it hard enough finding clothes in Phils Place, this could be an awesome way to spread the info.

fantastic fun cant wait to see them, wishes it wasn’t going to be two weeks between though lol

wow.. so many comments.. and no pitchforks (yet)

re Otenth, Eliza, Sasy and anyone else who commented about keeping it male:

go spoil my fun when I tell a gal they need o grow a pair of balls :P I had every intention of “suggesting” that females try a male avatar since — as Sasy said — so many female bloggers tend to have a male alt/avi ready at hand

As for why I said only bloggers — I wanted to level the playing field that way. If someone is a blogger they have the option of asking for review copies and not take the full burden of financing the challenge themselves. If enough readers complain and want in, then maybe I will open it up. Gotta ask the “higher ups” though :P

I can ask for review copies? There should really be a guide for fashion/freebie bloggers. I had no idea haha!

Well, I am a blogger. My SL blog is in swedish and have been running since the beginning of last year. I am also a steady reader of Men´s Second Style and have a reputation among my friends in SL to be a dandy sort of.

Can I be part of this?

well the voting system is having a few issues so my big announcement was a bit premature. don’t wanna tell y’all how many times i do things prematurely…. >_>

either way the first throwdown will be posted soon.. and based on the reception we get I’ll be deciding the frequency of the throwdowns that’ll follow

Exp, I have a few male avatar non-bloggers who would certainly be able to go toe-to-toe with you.

And make sure if/when you invite Ben V., should he choose to accept, you make the theme excruciatingly hard. You can’t go easy on the heavy-hitters.
