New: Philotic Energy by Aemilia Case

One of the benefits of writing for this blog is meeting various content creators doing interesting things. Unlike real life where you have a team that develops products that have been filtered by months of research and development, test marketing and Director or Vice President approval, in SL product releases tend to be the initiative of an individual who creates, markets and maintains their brand(s) via the power of one.
As someone who follows in-world retail trends I love to stumble across new designers putting their own spin on merchandising. It’s the thrill of coolhunting coupled with remotely sharing in the success of one’s favourite creators.
A few months ago I met Aemilia Case and Haver Cole who jointly created Lemon to provide quality shapes for regular men and ladies who desire a handsome or classically beautiful avatar physique with realistic proportions. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised while browsing the New Product forums to see Aemilia advertising a new brand, Philotic Energy. Within the post several backpacks, carrying cases and messenger bags as well as belts with high quality textures and tight prim work were shown. I would be lying if I wasn’t a little heartbroken that she hadn’t shared knowledge of her new venture with me. So, I IM’d her and requested some face time to talk about her unisex collection of accessories and she was kind enough to oblige.
With Philotic Energy, Case has bypassed the sterilized context of standard accessories to infused her totes in particular with themes that show ambience. There’s no doubt that her Tag Bag (my personal favourite), filled with all the paraphernalia needed to deface public property (permanent markers, spray paint and Philotic News mag) will appeal to the mischevious rebel with a penchant for outsider art. The DJ Bag in similar fashion, tucked with headphones and concert ticket shows off a keen interest in the music scene. These accoutrements make a bold statement about who the wearer is and his or her hobbies and/or interests. Through the mood enhancing detailing viewers gain insight into the personality of the wearer.
The collection also contains immaculately textured goods for those desiring a less grungy look - including hair with beanies (see forum post one, two and three). The “Whippet Walkabout” backpack, “Leather Portfolio Bag”, and coloured canvas belts are good examples of this. Aemilia’s belts come with steel-like metallic fixtures, many of which strongly feature link chains - a must-have feature for counterculture addicts.
I recently had an opportunity to talk with Aemilia about how the brand started.
MSS: Philotic Energy. What does it mean?
Aemilia: It’s from a book by Orson Scott Card, Enders Game. It’s a theory energy is a theory. Philotes are tiny particles which make up atoms and take no space whatsoever. Personally, I just liked the book, lol.
MSS: And you named your store after it.
Aemilia: Mhm. Well, part of it, yes. I was going through names with Haver and she was like ‘Enders Game’ … I’m like, yes. So, flicked through a few things and came up with this.
MSS: I knew you were a shape maker, but i never knew you were such a good builder. why have you been hiding?
Aemilia: Lol. Confidence levels, I think … I’ve been working a lot on my own textures because I can never find exactly what I want out there. Also i can never find what i want when I go shopping … so I started making this stuff for myself and was encouraged to open up a store.
MSS: What tends to inspire you to make your accessories? Personal taste?
Aemilia: Hmm, a lot is personal taste and just thinking of things that are a different twist on the other designs out there. Something I would wear mainly and be happy with.
MSS: Which is always what makes stuff stand out in SL. Lots of people can make a bag, but
Tag Bag is definitely an interesting twist. The details.
MSS: So, what else do you want the readership to know about your new brand of accessories? What can we expect in the future?
Aemilia: Hmm. I’m looking at making some jewellery … grungey style, belts … keep trying to make the prims to be nice and try my hand at some hair styles. And I have a bag* that someone requested. So, working on the textures for that.
MSS: How open are you to requests/feedback?
Aemilia: Very. The more I hear back, the better I can become. If I dont receive feedback I’m not going to know what is good/bad/ugly. And I’m sure my friends are getting tired of me going “try that on”. Lol.
MSS: I doubt it.
You can take a peek at Philotic Energy’s offerings by visiting Plio (193, 39, 593) and Imogen (140, 208, 26) above the Lemon store. The SL community is sure to see great things from Miss Case as she continues to take Australia’s finest art educators to task.

I love Aems’s stuff, she is a true talent. It’s great to see well rounded creators who have skills with both prims and textures - Aemilia has both in spades. I doubt she will ever cease to impress me with every new creation.

I’m looking forward to checking out the shapes, actually.
I am having some issues with my neck and shoulders. If I can find something that looks like me, well then.

Damnit, Jesse. You beat me. I’ll just add that the pose is like 30L. hiko Nino / Happy Dispatch has very reasonable pose and animation prices.
