New: Neko island gear @ BroGear

neko_islander_full.jpgHe barely remembers being on the ship any more–it was too long ago, and he was too young.  It’s hard to know what to make of the confusing memories of being in the great wooden box, floating on the water, surrounded by it on all sides.  The feeling he has in the memories seems to him something like the way he feels when he’s safe at home in the tree houses, but not nearly so pleasant, and out in the middle of water.  This he does not understand.  After all, none of them care much for water, except to drink.  Falling into pools of it is very unpleasant, not that he ever does that any more–he suddenly feels much more powerful and graceful now than he did before, his footing more sure–and crossing the great expanse of water that surrounds their little ball of land is…not forbidden so much as inconceivable.  Why forbid it?  It would be like saying, “You shall not walk to the Moon.”  What difference would that make?

neko_islander_full_lounge.jpgHe’s older now, and those other people, the ones he barely remembers, the ones that only had two ears, just the fleshy ears on the sides of their heads, not the beautifully furry ones on top–and no tail!–seem so far away.  He’s not even sure they were real; he often thinks they might have been just a nightdream.  Somehow, though, he knows he wasn’t always here.  He has heard some of the olders talk about him, when they thought he wasn’t listening.  He’s quieter than they think he is.  Once, one of them even said something about him being naked of ears and tail when he was a baby, wondering had they done right or wrong by giving them to him.  Of course the others had hushed him!  He must have been out in the sun too long, when he should have been sleeping the day’s heat away, or maybe he had chewed on some of the bad grass that makes your mouth and body act strangely.

neko_islander_slingshot.jpgHe makes his own clothing now, from the fur of small animals that live and run in the forest.  It’s no fun to take their fur, but after all, they have more fur than he does, and he needs some for himself.  He’s learning to make his own weapons, too, and to hunt with them.  They even let him use metal now, not just wood and stone and string.  Now he has more than just his hands and teeth and slingshot.

neko_islander_full_recline.jpgAnd lately there’s this girl, Posy–he has always thought it a funny but pretty name, she says it means some kind of flower.  If so, he has never seen a posy.  They used to play together when they were little, but now the play seems…different.  He isn’t sure why.  She says it’s because they’re getting older, and girls get older sooner than boys do.  Which doesn’t make any sense.  Doesn’t time work the same for everyone?  And how would she know?  Girls always think they’re so smart.  Anyway, he still likes playing with her.  A lot.  Maybe more than ever.

neko_native_full.jpgHe knows it won’t be long before the olders agree that he’s not just a neko any more and can do more than chores.  This thought makes him feel funny and shuddery inside.  It makes his eyes narrow and his muscles tense.  He wants to hunt with the men, and be ready to help defend their tribe if the bad ones come again.  And he will be.  He has the spears he made for himself, and they fly straight and true, the feathers barely whistling at all.  He has the dagger he was given when he was first allowed to run in the forest on his own, to be away from the tree houses alone.  He will use them, if he has to.  He will paint himself and fight, if so it falls to him, and he may be afraid but he will be brave, and strong, red in tooth and claw.

neko_native_back.jpgThe “Neko Islander” and “Neko Native” sets, new by Broder Kubrick and just out at BroGear, are easily some of the most fun things I’ve ever tried on.  I think it’s also the first time I’ve ever worn an outfit made up entirely of prim attachments, no clothing pieces (the “Native” set does use clothing layers for tattoos and war paint, but not for fabric coverings).  They’re beautifully designed, highly detailed and, as I may have mentioned, a lot of fun.

“Neko Islander” (L$400, shown above) is made up of six prim pieces that provide…strategic coverage.  Hey, you’re just running around your favorite tropical island anyway, right?  The leather straps are trimmed with flexi fur and feathers.  Detailing includes a slingshot, knife, pouches, and decorative strung beads.

neko_native_detail.jpgThe “Neko Native” set (also L$400) comes with ten prim attachments and four clothing items.  The quiver of spears, dagger and other accessories are decorated with fur, feathers and wickedly curving claws.  War paint and tattoos for upper and lower body are provided on the clothing-layer items.

Both sets are also available at the same price in versions sized and configured for Furry avatars.

Set free your inner kitty–you know he’s in there–or just indulge your own personal Gilligan’s Island fantasy.  Go native at BroGear!  (Isle of Tharen 38, 171, 33)

Aw, and here I thought I was being all original with my story. :)

I like this a lot, both the review and the outfit. I’m a big fan of the tattoos especially.
