New: Military Brat @ DE Designs
June 4th, 2007 at 10:46pm Aidan Recreant
DE Designs’ newest release is Military Brat, a stylish takeoff of camo wear in three colors– “Urban” (blue/gray), “Desert” (tan/olive), and “Recon” (black/gray). Designer DoC Eldritch has created a fine interplay of texture that fits into a coherent whole. The pants are a low-contrast camo design with a coarse mesh weave. The fabric must not hold together very well, as a rip in one thigh is repaired with grommets and lacing, and the other thigh is repaired with a bandanna tied in place. The wrinkles in the pants and bandanna are particularly well done. Another bandanna, riveted in place, patches up rips near the waistband of the pants, and continues around the front to act as a second belt. And on that belt– D-rings! God, I’m a sucker for metal in an outfit.
The jacket comes with long-sleeved and sleeveless options, and has the darker pattern the pants have, with a realistic collar detail that’s highlighted nicely. Bandannas, belts, and buckles abound here, tying the set together (so to speak). It’s seen here worn over the outfit shirt, all spiffy and shiny, but it could easily be turned to a more casual look worn over a plain beater undershirt, or nothing at all.
The shirt comes with short sleeve and sleeveless options. I could wish for a little less highlight on the chest, for obvious reasons, but the stomach wrinkles are again very well done. The camo pattern here is higher contrast and looks very good against the subtler pattern of the pants. You might want to be a little more ripped than I am to rock the sleeveless, though. Aidan needs to drop and give Sarge 20.
Remember what I said before about good butt highlight? DoC obviously knows what I’m talking about, and I’m very pleased here. And check out the wrinkles at the back of the shirt. The perceived stretching of the material makes me look broader and more muscular in the torso without my changing my shape to an exaggerated triangle. Altogether, the “Military Brat” outfit is of the high quality you’d expect from DE Designs, with good coloration, good detail, and great style. And metal. Lots of metal.
The outfit includes two shirts, two jackets, and one set of pants, costing L$375. A three-pack of all colors is available for L$750. All items are copy/mod/no transfer. DE Designs is located in the DE Designs Sim. Shot on location at Commando SL Armored Division in Royier, and at AMC Airbase in Grote.

*headdesk* Thanks, Nerolus! I could’ve sworn I had it right. Um. I’m not sure if I can change it once it’s been posted. Let me check with Ryan.

DE was one of the first places I found when I got into SL just over two years ago. Doc, your attention to detail on all your stuff is awesome. Your work inspires me.
