New: Men’s jewelry @ The Perfect Gift

compass_ring_bracelet.jpgYou may remember an announcement not too long ago regarding a quality freebie, a men’s bronze pendant necklace by dionysia Elytis.  At the time, dionysia was just starting to design jewelry for men, and we had some fascinating chats about men and their likes and dislikes.  Apparently I managed not to dissuade her entirely, as she has created a total of four different sets of matched jewelry pieces for men.

dionysia’s design approach is different from that of some other designers whose work I love–her pieces are simple and sturdy rather than delicate or elaborate.  The bold shapes allow her beautifully detailed textures to take center stage.

compass_set.jpgI’d be hard pressed to choose just one of these sets as my favorite, but I’m going to start with the Men’s Compass Set L$250).  The set includes three pieces: ring, bracelet and pendant necklace, all worked in heavy bronze.  Each is decorated with a compass rose design and accented with rubies.  The links of the necklace chain are finely wrought, but not dainty.  I love the rich, dark metal finish and the way it almost seems to glow from within.

The Men’s Celtic Set (L$125) includes a simple but elegant ring and pendant necklace, both made of aged silver and decorated with trinity knots and other Celtic artwork.  The metal finish is smoothly burnished and dark, with incised design work that sounds out in bright relief.  Each piece features a single brilliant ruby.

celtic_choker.jpgSimilarly themed but entirely different in execution, the Men’s Celtic Choker Set (L$175) looks and feels more casual.  The choker’s round central medallion features a raised shamrock with trinity knot subtly worked into the stem.  Black double cords are also strung with spiral-wrapped metalwork “beads.”  Although both pieces are moddable, I found that the matching bracelet was already at or near its minimum size, so it couldn’t be sized down very far via simple stretch.  If your avie is smaller than average, the bracelet may fit loosely, as it does on me, or simply be larger than you’d like, so caveat emptor.

Update: dionysia let me know that she has re-worked both this bracelet and the Abalone bracelet (below), so they start out at a smaller size that’s a better fit for smaller avies and can easily be sized up to fit larger avies.  Her vendors should have been updated with the new bracelets by the time I post this.  Thanks, dionysia!  :D

abalone_bracelet.jpgThe Men’s Abalone Choker Set (L$175) contrasts warm gold metal with the subtle colors of shell from the sea.  On the choker, a round disk of shiny abalone is flanked by gold beads.  The bracelet’s constuction is like that of the Celtic braclet, and here too it is, out of the box, as small as it can get.

These first jewelry designs for men by dionysia are simple, direct, straightforward, and beautiful.  I can’t wait to see where she goes from here.
