New: Men’s hair @ GuRL 6
July 30th, 2007 at 07:26pm Ryan Darragh
New from designer Dominik Bauer of GuRL 6 is this men’s hair style, called “Ego.” This is the kind of ‘do I simply couldn’t maintain myself in RL–highly styled, carefully controlled. I suspect it would require the use of a great deal of Product, styling skills and/or patience I simply don’t possess, even possibly the foundation of better hair than, sadly, I actually have. This, of course, is one of the many reasons we love Second Life.
I love the no-nonsense, strongly upswept hair in front, the strategically chosen strands that “inadvertently” escape (you didn’t really think that was accidental, did you?) and the subtle rooster tail that suggests that the stylist’s control isn’t quite complete, after all. And in the morning I don’t have to figure out how to recreate my stylist’s elusive magic.
“Ego” comes in Dark, Light, Style and Party packs of four different colors each, all copiable and moddable. It’s shown here in Natural Red that I have re-tinted to my personal preference. I usually show hair in an “out of the box” color, but the Natural Red was quite natural, even subtle, and the reds I usually wear are…less so. Consider me the male Lucille Ball of SL. Each pack is priced at L$195.
Get it at GuRL 6 (Gurlywood 112, 142, 22).

That is a hideous hair texture/color.

As I mentioned in the post, I recolored the hair myself to my own preference. I’m sorry that doesn’t coincide with yours. If you like the style, though, you can see the various colors the designer makes available by visiting the shop. There’s no way for me to picture all the style’s colors here, and I think most people are used to checking shops for color choices anyway.

Wow…Dominik Bauer is making hair. Gone are the days of dancing to DJ Dominik Bauer’s in Gravity, and me guessing 90% of his mixed up tracks for L$. Good times, great oldies. It’s a nice style although a bit too tall and pulled back all for my av. If I put that on I’d probably end up looking like I have (not a forehead or a fivehead, but) a sixhead.

I agree with you Oscar. I’m probably terribly awkward with hair editing, because I have never been able to fit properly a Gurl6 hair on my avie. This one made no exception
Anyway, I find a bit odd the contrast between the front, “wild styled” and the back, more than tamed on this “Ego”.
Ryan dear, you are impossible. You KNOW that tinting and tinting again is ruining your fabulous hair texture, and you did it one more time… okay, this amazing flaming red is worth the pain, whatever can think the mysterious JC.
I’ll drop you some conditioner sweetie!

I’ve had my share of challenges with fitting hair, but this style was quite easy, at least for me. I can only guess that it’s differences in head size and proportions that make a style difficult to fit on one avatar and easy on another. One of the many things I like about Jesse’s hair (Renown) is that almost all his styles fit me with no changes needed. Our heads must be about the same size.

LOL I’m probably one of the rare few with a size 100 head. Anything 90 or lower and my av looks like I have a pinhead if I don’t deflate my musculos. Thus why most hairstyles that are pulled back will make my forehead into a sixhead unless they’re carefully crafted with a larger head in mind. I can get away with some with some crafty resizing & positioning work, but even then they don’t exactly look right on my large melon.

Oscar - interesting problem I haven’t run into, but makes perfect sense. Do you have any tips on designers and/or specific styles that work well for larger avatars?
Ben - I promise to condition every day!

I know two hair designers who do hair in Three pre-sized versions for different kind of heads, those are Natalia Zelmanov for “Sirena Hair” and Hayate Ewing for “H2T Hayate Hair Lab”. I would be happy if anyone accepted to share other names!
Anyway stretching is sometimes not enough.
