New: Lizard-skin jackets @ Pushbutton Industries

September 10th, 2007 at 08:32pm Ryan Darragh

barrage_hypoxia_full.jpgbarrage_turned_earth_front.jpgI never know what I’m going to find when I walk into Pushbutton Industries, designer Pushbutton Skolnick’s shop featuring her own highly eclectic clothing and accessory items for all the sexes.  She’s always got something going on, anywhere from decidedly off-the-beaten-path new designs to an entirely revamped shop design and layout, just because she was bored.  New this week at PBI for the guys is this set of jackets Push calls “The Barrage,” available in four colors: Arsenal (grey), Hypoxia (blue), Powder Burn (black), and Turned Earth (brown).

Ryan Darragh: Hey, what is this fabric texture?
Pushbutton Skolnick: Komodo dragon.
Ryan: I was torn between snake and lizard.  Now I know.  Hmm, feels sexy.
Push: It’s like the special sauce.
Ryan: As in, two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions…?
Push: That’s just the stuff they tell you about.

barrage_hypoxia_detail.jpgThe richly textured fabric features a non-traditional safety pin closure that runs from the bottom hem to the top of the wrap collar (a moddable prim attachment).  You can toss on a simple tee or other shirt under the jacket, but it’s sexier without.  The almost formal lines of the high collar are counterbalanced by the casual safety pins and back artwork.

barrage_hypoxia_back.jpgRyan: Any special significance to the skull and crossbones artwork?
Push: I dunno, I’m very, this is gonna sound pretentious, iconic sometimes?  I just have certain images I keep coming back to.  Skull and crossbones is pretty timeless.  But I call that one headphones and crossbones, ’cause I fancy myself as clever.
Ryan: Of course he has no ears.
Push: Suspension of disbelief is key.  But yeah, either I’m iconic or I’m just boring and I recycle…not sure which.
Ryan: I can’t see boring and you together.  So I vote iconic, with a twist.
Push: Sweeet.

pbi_shop_outside.jpg“The Barrage” jackets are priced at L$150 each, or L$450 for the pack of all four colors.  Get yours at Push’s way-cool recently redesigned shop–in a bit of beautiful whimsy, the exterior looks like record player, while the interior reminds me of the Tower Records I pretty much lived in when I was in high school, with items for sale in record bins pushed up against the walls and tacked up like posters on the walls.

Push: I feel like I’ve finally hit a groove.

Available at Pushbutton Industries (Envy 185, 96, 23).

pbi_shop_inside.jpgA word of warning to the guys: also new at PBI are some tempting new dirty sneakers.  You will want these.  They are not for you.  They are for the ladies only and will not fit your big manly feet.  I have already razzed Push on this woeful discrepancy, so cut her some slack.  She swears that dirty sneaks sized for guys are coming soon.  I’m putting it on record here, so she doesn’t have any excuses.  I want my dirty sneaks, dammit!  ;)

Disclosure: Seen in World: Yes | Review Copy: Yes | Friends List: No

Notes: On Ryan: Antonio (Tan) skin by Funk Schnook (FNKY!). "Nekoge" hair by hiko Nino (Happy Dispatch). Damaged Jeans by Nylon Pinkney (Nylon Outfitters). Boho Sandals by Fallingwater Cellardoor (Shiny Things).

And a second word after getting there \o/ For once being a smaller avy works. I now have a set of Dirty Sneakers that fit real well on me.

Try the demo, unless you are 8′ tall.
