New: Highwayman jackets @ Brutal Gear

January 11th, 2007 at 06:56pm Catero Revolution

brutalgear_snapshot_001.jpgThe wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding-
Riding-riding-
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door

When Alfred Noyes penned his romanic poem in 1906 he had no knowledge that over the centuries his iconic vision of independence and masculinity, the solitary wayfarer, would evolve from a plume-hatted equestrian gent with 3/4-length jacket into a surly tattoed badass riding 800 lbs. of forged metal wearing leather chaps. The leather waist-cut highwayman jacket is now the fashion signature for every Biker, Rocker and Oi Boy this side of paradise. With his recent release of The Highwayman leather jacket series Nex Brannan of Brutal Gear conjures images of James Dean and early Brando - the rebel longing for the open road and a life without responsibility.

The jacket is curently available in three styles: Black, Black Biker and Punk. Based on the jacket he wears in real life (although not photosourced from it*), Brannan has textured The Highwayman with the softness of breathable weather-worn leather. The success of the jacket is in the attention to detail - not only in the texture work, but in the prim “extras” that add to the distinction of the coat. Each jacket can be worn with prim shoulder tabs or decorative spikes and waist cinch belt. The Black version (top right) is clean and simple. Biker Black (below, left) and Black Punk (below right) each have fatigued images centered on the back panel in addition to featuring a series of stickers, sketching and buttons which provide a personal touch.

With the wind at your back you too can create a poetic resonance for your outlaw image at Brutal Gear in Campanula (247, 205, 502) and Plush Micron (209, 242, 22) for 200L per jacket style.

Thanks for the wonderful review. I enjoyed the interview as well.

I do want to point out that the jackets aren’t photosourced, but are based on my RL jacket. The patches however are done from pictures or real patches.

Nex, man, my apologies for the error re: photosourcing. I’m all the more impressed that it’s all hand-drawn. You out-do yourself each time. Can’t wait to see what you roll out with next.

Hey guys great post. Just love the look, Cat.

The one problem i have found since coming in world in September last year is where to find great shapes - none of the fashion blogs do anything on this vital area. We can spend so much on skins, clothes and make up ( for the gals) but i have spent quite a bit of cash and a huge amount of frustrating time trying to find great shapes ( including faces) for me and my missus.

any help you can give , or even a new category to kick things off with ?

Alex my partner sells shapes and we have some at adam n eve as I sell my male model shapes. We also have a new specialist shape store, more intimate and with a height measure model and a choice of height for all shapes.

My partner Damen Gorilla makes them and he refunds on ALL shapes if returned within 5 days if not satisfied. He also exchanges and does modifications. The store is nahual & pennywise on revelations sim. Search find places should pick it up or there is a lm in adam n eve.

I haven’t done a lot of looking for shapes to purchase as I’ve been pretty happy with the shape I built for myself (though I do tweak it still, from time to time). I noticed that Lost Thereian is selling a selection of shapes alongside his new “Gabriel” skins for men at Naughty Designs. I have heard (though I haven’t researched this myself) that Cryogen does custom skin art and shape work based on RL photographs, if you want to go that route.

You can also check the Body Shop section in the SL Forums for postings from designers releasing new shapes. This may even lead you to a shape that’s been out for a while but is perfect for you!
