New: Combover hair @ Mystikal Hair Designs

February 10th, 2007 at 12:00pm Catero Revolution

mystikaldesigns_snapshot_001.jpgWe’ve all seen him. He’s the random guy you see on the subway during your morning commute or the guy reading the newspaper at Starbucks. He could be your coworker, doctor, accountant, professor, even your dad. And for whatever reason, he has chosen to hold on to the last few threads of hair crowning the top of his head for dear life. His rationale will not allow him to shave it completely bald or low. It is the infamous “comb-over”. I would not classify it as hairstyle, but rather the leftovers of a hairstyle that once was. The sides remain intact, with one side grown long and then meticulously rearranged over the bald area on the top of the head to cover it as completely as possible. I imagine there’s lots of gel and/or hair spray involved to keep it in place.

The Comb-over has become the signature of the balding middle-aged man from Alburquerque to Zvishavane. It’s timeless, it’s international, it’s the preferred style of high-powered men. Men like Donald Trump, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. Now you too can experience a level of realism yet unseen in SL - your own G-Cue ball coiffe courtesy of Mystikal Faddoul of Mystikal Hair Designs.

figure_combover_wikipediaen.jpgMystikal recently released “The Combover” in response to a request by a resident who wanted his avatar’s appearance to be more reflective of his real world self - which many SLers strive for. In-world products tend to be geared to the 20- and 30-somethings who want to be impeccably modelesque. Mystikal’s hair creation is sensitively natural, dignified and admittedly quirky - just like in real life. It is a bold move towards offering products outside of the mainstream market for human avatars.

By creating myself a middle-aged avatar I found that people responded to me in a respectful manner, randomly asking my opinion while I was out shopping. They struck up conversations just for chit-chat.

[12:06] Lefty Belvedere: brilliant comb-over

Lots of bald(ing) men are bringing sexyback in their own way: Andre Agasi, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, LL Cool J, Patrick Stewart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to name a few. So can you too with your very own receding hairline from Mystikal Hair Designs @ Bali Hai (29, 223, 27).

The Combover is available in black, light and dark blondes, brown, grey and red for 250L each. Though the top fringe is not flexi (which might look really cool as you speed home with the top down to watch Matlock in your cherry red Dominus) the back and sides have more sway than you can shake your cane at. As an added bonus Mystikal has followed up this style with Baldie, which is completely free of top coverage.

    LOL@ that being you.

    Great review, love your style.

I think the maker was smart to have made this, I see a lot of older avatars lately.

Ps- That`s Dwayne MAIVIA. Gotta bring in some samoan pride, lol.

Jesse, meet “Dr. Hoffman”. He’s a respected zoologist whose career mission is it to save the white rhino from extinction. I was gonna put some “booyah” shots on there with Hoffman raising the roof, but I thought I’d keep it classy.

I will give you Dwayne Johnson’s Samoan half. I’ll keep his Canadian half. And we’ll both give it up for the international love.

Very cool! Nice to know there is more out there for us ahem…”vintage” guys.
Does anyone sell a good military hairdo? Can’t get there with the basic newbie hair. It’s either too full or bald.
    Thanks!

Mr. Mills, I’m assuming by “military hairdo” you mean something that’s close-cropped.

I do believe that Nex Brannan of Brutal Gear / GearHead fame makes some seriously short styles like “Clutch” and “Double Clutch”. Additionally, many skins are being made with hair mapped directly onto the head. You can’t get any closer than that.

IM me in-world and I’d be more than happy to take you around.
