New: Hair by Tami McCoy

Before I get started, let me vent for a moment. It’s turning out to be one of those days and I’d like this to be all about me, just briefly. Thanks in advance for your indulgence. So last night I was busily taking pictures of these new hairstyles by Tami McCoy and quite pleased with how things were looking. You’ll also note that it’s not one, not two but three hairstsyles this time, so quite a few pictures were taken (I have a tendency to blink, and I like to have options). I finished up, logged out of SL and went to review the pictures before converting them to JPEGs, because good Lord but bitmaps are big. I started flipping through them and saw to my horror that in every single one of them the SL client interface was showing! It might not have been so bad, but I had the camera controls conveniently located (i.e., more or less in the middle of the screen), not to mention a couple of HUDs that would have been obnoxiously difficult if not impossible to crop out. Maybe this is why HUDs are the Devil. I could go on…and on…but let’s just say that it actually takes longer to recreate a photoshoot (down to camera angles and lighting) that you’re happy with than it did to take the pictures in the first place.
But enough about me.
Tami’s new “Modern” style is smoothly swept back behind the ears and curls gracefully around the neck. Strands fall neatly from the slightly off-center part. In a perfect world, this is what my RL hair would look like. Of course, in a perfect world, I’d have my own personal stylist…every day. You will no doubt be seeing me wearing this style around in the near future–it made the jump right to my short list.
“Misfit” is a new beast, at least for me–it’s worn in two sections, the hair base and the central spikey shock that spills over the forehead, clear down to the nose. The back is neatly upswept, so basically everything is moving up, forward and over. Just as I was trying this style on, Sean looked over my shoulder and said, “Oh, very Flock of Seagulls.” I’m not sure if that’s what Tami had in mind, but it did kind of make it click for me.
“Misfit Too” is also worn in two sections, but it has shaggy sides and back that remind me of ”Careless,” another of Tami’s styles. “Misfit Too” also gives you the option of either a shorter (above left) or longer (above right) central section, so you can decide for yourself how much of a rebel to be today. All these styles make good use of flexi strands to enhance realism and add life.
Tami’s hair styles are available in ten colors (some styles are available in 12); the styles here are all shown in Wine, my personal favorite. Single colors are priced at L$250, but five-color packs are also available for L$1000. Object permissions are Copy / Modify / No Transfer.
Available at Hair Designs by Tami McCoy (Dixie 87, 90, 23).

A camera hint.. Select the freeze frame option, then just click when your AO and Eyes are correct. You can then camera around the scene with everything for frozen perfectly for as long as you need until the camera angle is perfect.
The other advantage is, if you are about to capture the interface is shows when you release the mouse buttons.
This hair, especially Misfit too looks great! Im off to try for sure. Ive been wearing hair from Kin, but in my circles it is becoming all too common.

Don’t I know it..
I knew there was a reason for taking all those graphic design classes.

Sean H (or anyone else): Where is this ‘freeze frame’ option of which you speak? I couldn’t find it hunting through the menus of the client software… I looked through everything and looked twice throught the VIEW and CLIENT menus.

The “freeze frame” option is a check box on the Snapshot interface. You’ll see if it you click the Snapshot button rather than using the Ctrl-` shortcut. Although nifty, I find the freeze frame to be not terribly helpful in the kind of photography I typically do for the blog. I don’t rely on my AO for poses–I have a collection of modeling poses and just activate the one I want. That way I stand still until I’m done.
You also lose the onscreen camera controls in the freeze frame, and lame as those can be I do use them a lot. I’ve also noticed that if I move around very much in the freeze frame, I see “drift” of prim attachments (like shoes and hair)–they look like they’ve drifted slightly away from where they’re supposed to be attached. The only way I’ve found to correct that is to discard the snapshot and start over, which defeats the whole purpose.
None of the snapshot features are quite perfect–I think it’s all about what works best for you in what you’re doing. I tend to use the Ctrl-` keyboard shortcut with Quiet Snapshots to Disk turned on, so I can take pictures quickly without the snapshot sound and animation, which I find disruptive and annoying. Someday the Client menu will remember settings and I’ll be very happy.

I bought, and it’s nice style for one of my taller toons, however like so many things in world this hair is unsuitable for smaller avatars.
The hair as you buy it is at it’s minimum size, so if you are smaller than about 5′8″ it looks out of proportion.
This is not a complaint against Tami, it’s a very common problem, but one I wish designers would keep in mind when they create something.
Great style though.

There’s another thing you could do, although it’s revolutionary…..you could buy a studio.
