New: Celtic design rings @ Biju by Muna

cargan_black.jpgI love jewelry and other design work inspired by Celtic artwork.  In RL I wear an inexpensive silver ring, simply designed to resemble interlocking knotwork, that I bought from a street vendor in Dublin about four years ago.  One of the highlights of that trip to Ireland was a visit to Trinity College, where I was able to view two folios from the Book of Kells, the artwork of which still informs Celtic designs today.  Muna Arai’s new  line of rings for men honors that tradition by making inspired use of knotwork and other design elements in balance and harmony with the beauty of precious metals.

winfred_gold_detail.jpgAlthough I’m featuring just four here, in all there are 40 different styles.  Each ring includes Silver, Gold and Black variations (plus posing stand and face lamp accessory).  Above at left (and in detail here) you see the “Cargan” style in Black.  The coal-black band is highlighted by brighter relief metalwork depicting an endless string of trinity knots .  At right I’m wearing the more elaborate “Winfred” in Gold.  The intricate, detailed texture work creates the realistic illusion of incised metal–beautiful even under closer inspection.

argus_silver_detail.jpgThe slimmer, beveled ring shown at left in Silver is the style called “Argus.”  Here again we see the trinity knot design.  Although not shown here (it happens too quickly to catch in the high-resolution pictures I took so I could show the rings up close), the rings have optional bling that can be turned on and off via chat command.  I found that I had to reset the script in each ring before the commands would work–not sure why, but the reset was easy enough to do.  The script is set to listen in open chat (channel 0), but it’s moddable, so it should be simple to change this to a private channel if you prefer.  I don’t mind bling as long as it can be turned off.  The rings attach by default to the left hand–a bit of a pet peeve of mine, as it displaces my partnership ring.  It’s easy enough to detach and re-attach to the other hand, so I should probably stop whining.  ;)

donagh_gold.jpgThis style is called “Donagh,” and it’s shown in Gold (see it in greater detail here).  All styles are priced at L$100 each, which includes three different metal finishes.  Permissions are Copy / Modify / No Transfer, but you can give the rings as gifts from the sales vendor.  Available at Biju by Muna (Bucuresti 19, 186, 26); look for the display stand/vendor toward the back of the store.

The Celtic Belt I’m wearing is by Bryce Rand.  I picked it up as a freebie some time back, and I didn’t try it on right away because in all honesty my expectations were low.  Shame on me, because it’s beautiful, with a gorgeous wide leather belt and delicate filigree metal buckle.  I checked last night and it’s still available as freebie!  Okay, it will actually set you back L$1, but it’s worth that and more.  Get it at Eclipse Development (Cheops 201, 73, 22).
