New: Boy Next Door @ MUWU

You’ve seen them everywhere you’ve ever lived. Judy Garland immortalized them in 1944′s Meet Me in St. Louis. Maybe, like Judy, you’ve wanted to make the acquaintance of one, or maybe you’ve wanted to be one. In SL, all things are possible. Namida Akami’s new “Boy Next Door” is a beautifully textured casual ensemble that can be worn in several different ways, so you’re not limited to a single “look.” I’m a big fan of flexibility, and I appreciate it when designers create clothing that can be worn in ways that approximate RL clothing. Don’t get me wrong–I don’t think that SL is all about recreating RL experiences in a virtual setting, although you can certainly do that and have fun. Some of my favorite clothing and accessory items are designs that would be completely impossible in RL, or possible but completely unaffordable. But there’s plenty of room in the world for realistic casual wear that’s also realistically flexible, and as I said, I’m a big fan.
In spite of the array of wear options, it’s all fairly simple. What you get, either as separates or in a set (more on that later), are pants and shirt/sweater combo tops. The pants are warmly textured in comfortable corduroy fabric, with attractive seam and pocket detailing. I’ve admired the fabric artwork on other MUWU designs, and the work here is just as accomplished. The shirt and sweater can be worn tucked or untucked, and with long or rolled-up sleeves–four variations in all. The shirt’s collar and rolled sleeves are nicely shaped prim attachments. Shirt and prim cuffs are moddable, so you can adjust the sleeve length up or down. I should mention that the shirt and sweater are combined and can’t be worn separately. While that extra degree of freedom would be nice, considering all the options Namida has provided–and the reasonable price–I can’t complain.
The white shirt comes with your choice of Black, Brown (my favorite), Eggshell, and Grey sweaters for L$90 each. Pants, also L$90, are available in Black, Brown and Eggshell. You can take home the complete collection for L$475. All permissions are M C T.
Available at MUWU at Datenshi Creations (Crocus Island 137, 147, 455).

Great outfit and write-up Ryan. The trousers look especially fine. The stripes and glow make them strong enough to stand up to the ‘little bells’ of the Moliere shoes. The new glasses are interesting, too.

The trousers are in fact especially fine, and I strongly recommend them as separates even if the shirt/sweater isn’t your style. Trousers often get short shrift, even in my own coverage, as shirts, sweaters and jackets are often more photogenic or otherwise interesting. Here the trousers are just as carefully textured as the sweater, and that’s most definitely worth noting.
