New: Baroque hats @ Thea Tamura Fashion

June 24th, 2008 at 04:03pm Ryan Darragh

bizarre_hat_black_black_hair.jpgI wouldn’t describe Thea Tamura’s new hat-with-hair creation as bizarre, but it certainly is unusual.  To me the design looks and feels more Baroque or Rococo (albeit stylized), even Romantic.  (I could easily see Shelley wearing this hat in less anguished moments.)  However, Thea herself has called it her “Bizarre Hat.”  It’s simple and direct, so who am I to judge?  ;)

The hat I picked up for myself is the Black style, probably the most sober of the twelve different variations.  You can choose from seven simpler solid colors and five more elaborate fabric textures.  The Black hat’s base texture is a medium-grain leather, while some others have a linen fabric look.  All the styles are clearly pictured on their vendors, so you can see how each style is finished.

bizarre_hat_black_blonde_hair_dreads.jpgAlthough Thea’s shop features designs for women, these hats are are neither specifically feminine nor masculine.  Each comes as a set that includes hats with hair, hats with hair and scripted dreads, and a “plain” hat without hair.  The hairstyle is the casual, gender-neutral shaggy style you see here, and you can choose from Black, Blonde and Red.  The height and shape of the hat make it fairly easy to wear with your own hair without prim strands showing through–I tried several of my favorite styles and spotted far fewer “stray prims” than I would have expected.  I’m not sure how often I’ll wear the dreads, but it’s always nice to have more choices, and they are flexi and kind of fun.  The dreads are scripted so you can choose from 11 different colors and textures via touch menu.

Permissions are Modify / Copy / No Transfer.  Thea’s Bizarre Hats are priced at L$300 each; a demo is available in the shop, so you can try one on first.  Available at Thea Tamura Fashion (Westbury 26, 140, 47).

I have to say a quick word or two about the shirt I’m wearing, although you can’t really see much of it in these close-ups.  It’s called Flesh Mechanic, which makes me think of the intermittent series of “esoteric art films” that screened in the Student Union when I was in college.  The mesh fabric texture is nicely done, with good transparency that leaves less to the imagination the closer you zoom.  It’s one of the sexier things I’ve seen lately.  The design is by Eden Minton, and it’s available at MUWU.

Disclosure: Seen in World: Yes | Review Copy: No | Friends List: No

Notes: On Ryan: "ML020" skin by Yukimaru Koba (Z#road Men's Shop). Flesh Mechanic shirt by Eden Minton (MUWU). Ronin NeKoholic jeans by Sakigake Maruko (WMD).

Wow that looks awsome. Yet I play on the teen grid but I love looking at this site to get ideas.
Lately I have been making clothes. If you want I could send you some images!

Hey Connor! I’d love to see some pics of the clothing designs you’ve been working on. You can email me … ryandarraghsl [at] gmail dot com. It’s great to see people expressing themselves creatively. :D

I’d also love to see what the teen grid has cooking down there. I’ve seen a few mentions of the teen grid as of lately and it has got me thinking. I wish there were some sort of neutral ground in between the teen grid and the main grid where some collaborative innovation could happen. Or, at the very least, a place where designers, builders, and scripters alike could share ideas and sell their items. Pictures can only accomplish so much. You can’t tell how well a flexi-prim will flow as you move in a picture. I’m sure there’s a lot of clothing from the main grid that would sell fantastically on the teen grid and possibly some vice versa. From a business and digital progression standpoint, I think it would be fantastic.

I’ve had vague thoughts along the lines of Oscar’s, but I’ve never articulated them as well as he did. I love the idea, especially if the “neutral ground grid” would allow you to buy items created by residents of the “other grid” and take them back with you to your own “home grid.” Teen grid designers would need to be able to bring their assets with them when they graduate to the main grid (or maybe they can do that now?).

I’m guessing there would be concerns regarding the idea of “meeting in the middle,” since the separation between the teen and main grids is intended as a protection. I suppose there could be scheduled times for the “neutral” grid to be open to teens only, other times for adults only. It seems to get annoyingly complicated very quickly.

Well that would be cool. I have heard news of the 2 grids merging into one but teen residence only alowed to enter (pg) sims of the main grid for pretection. Oh and I tried to send you my designs but it failed so i’m not sure..

Hmm, I didn’t see any email from ya. I’ll check again, though, just to be sure.

Yea I don’t think you will get an email I tried to email you and I got an email back telling me I can’t send pictures or something and it told me it failed.
