Jeans: The Right Fit

I have hinted in previous posts, that for me, it is difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans in Second Life. I am reminded of the times I have gone shopping with my RL wife and she searches through every store in the mall to be defeated in the end. At the end of the day the complaints and tears seem endless. Either the pockets fit funny, they aren’t the right “style” or they make her butt look fat. Until I became Second Life fashion obsessed, I never understood why or what caused her such grief. “Just grab the pair that fits and find your way back to the car.” But it was never that easy. And, for some reason I think God is teaching me a lesson for not showing her patience. In RL I wear a 34-32. In Second Life it takes a lot more effort to find the right fit. Hopefully I can save you time and energy. I will review seven designers and I guarantee that at each location there is a pair you’ll enjoy.
I can not speak more highly of any designer than Shai Delacroix. Her perfection and inspiration flows into every article of clothing she touches and her Jeans are no exception. Every detail, every shadow, every fold drawn brings her artistry to the forefront. I absolutely adore her Fall Classic Denims available at Casa Del Shai. The photo to the right models her Classic Blue, but they are also available in black, gray-scale, rust, and dirt brown. The cuff attachments also add to their realism and style. Each pair will run you 250 Ld and there are no options for saving in a phat pack. Each linden you spend is worth the style points you will pick up from owning this pair.
My favorite pair of Jeans come from Elephant Outfitters and were designed by Nicole David. They can be found in the glorious and beautiful Armidi Sim. When I wear these jeans I don’t just look hot, I feel hot. I know the ladies think the same.
Pictured to the left are the Classic Elephant Jeans in Dirty Rinse Color. The wear and tear, the fading and the shadows in the folds, all add to the realism and texture. The Classic Collection also come in regular, dark, light bleach, and dirty dark colors. At 145 Ld a pair and no option for phat pack saving I own every pair.
Endeavor Jeans by Tsubasa Ferraris and Mif Yifu are a great deal especially for the detail, again in the texturing. Each pair comes with two options, with and with out a belt. Four colors give you variety and an option to show off your individuality and personal style. I ask Tsubasa about his personal vision for Second Life Fashion.
“As designers, we strive to bring into this world items which are closer to real life but fit the atmosphere of Second Life. We hope all customers, men and women, have a similar experience of enjoyment and excitement in shopping they have in the real world. All clothing in our store is modifiable and copyable to fit every possible avatar.”
When you come to Endeavor firstly, bring your girl she may want to shop as well. Secondly, you have to look around the rest of the SIM there are a lot of interesting stores at Takaraduka.
I discovered the Chase outlet by designer Ocean Lane while strolling through Takaraduka. I had never heard of this designer but was immediately enthralled with his Legendary Denim line. The jeans come in indigo, stylish red, black and vintage green, and are each 350 Ld. A fat pack can be purchased for 1150 Ld. Each pair is textured with excellent detailing and prim attachment. The prims don’t fit perfectly and knowledge of prim adjustment is helpful. However, the jeans look just as good without the back pocket attachments. So, if you can’t make em work, just don’t wear em and you will still get the desired glances.
Ryan Darragh made me aware of SLAB designer Pompo Bombacci and I am glad he did. With super photo realistic textures and shadows, these jeans come in four pairs each with a different leather belt color: brown, black, purple and blue. Also for boot lovers the same set of four pants is provided on the underwear layer as well. Free basic socks are also included. Each is 495 Ld or available in a fat pack for L$1485.
You want a place to find some really fun and creative styles? Visit Gripp Jeans by Joey Heyse. Each pair of jeans has stiching in some place that bring out the creative flair that encompases everything that is Gripp. Pay particular attention to the pockets on my avatar, its just one example of the surprises you’ll find when rumaging through the racks of eight different styles. Each Pair is 150 Ld.
Last but not least, The Body Politik by Maximillion Grant is your one stop shop for everything fashion and has anything you could desire in the Second Life fashion industry. Of course all you really need is a great pair of Casual Comfort Jeans.
In black, blue, grunge, brown and tan, there has to be one set that has the right fit. Maximillion has plans to do a lot more men’s stuff and especially focusing on upscale and ultra-hip styles. Keep checking back to see what he has designed.
I hope I have been able to start you in the right direction for finding a great pair of jeans.

Take a look at the jeans available at Relax. I swear by my set of those – and my Elephant jeans.

The biggest issue I have with trying to find jeans is that most designers don’t list on the vendor if they’re “regular cut” or “hip huggers” and I end up deleting a lot of hip huggers and tossing Lindens down the toilet.
What style are the jeans you reviewed? Regular or hippy?

And indeed fashion is all bout jeans and tees.

James Dean might have agreed with that observation.

James Dean would love the jeans from Indigo. Right up his alley. Naughty jeans are also pretty basic, but a nice staple in the denim lineup. I like Armidi Limited’s denim wall, but I think because they’re all folded up on the wall that I haven’t bought more than 1 pair.
I do agree with Kevin too where waist height really needs to be disclosed. I’ve had my fair share of mishaps back in the day with jeans that were low-rise, but never said that. It’d be wonderful if you could get 1 pair of jeans in 2 heights…that’d be great from usability standpoint and making the same pair of jeans work seamlessly with multiple outfits no matter what layer they’re on.

I agree about mentioning the hip height. Though in my case that’s because I only wear low-rise pants.
IMO the regular cut as defined by Linden Labs is way too high and makes me look like I can make a cameo appearance in Revenge of the Nerds

Dragontat Zagato’s jeans at Desert Moon Clothiers have always been clearly identified as “low rise,” “very low rise” etc. Definitely agree that this is a very helpful, customer-friendly practice. I’m sure there are other designers who do this as well, DT is just one who comes immediately to mind for me.
