Halloween 2008 [vi] : A Very Sinister Holiday Indeed

October 30th, 2008 at 04:24pm Ryan Darragh

grave_digger_at_work.jpgAlthough I had some other stuff lined up for Halloween coverage here, I fear this will be my last article for Halloween 2008 (tomorrow being the 31st and all).  I guess my plans were more than usually ambitious, and I’ve been slammed with RL work and family stuff the last several days, which has kept me away from SL more than I expected.  Such is life.

grave_digger_mr_bones.jpgEven if you visit SiniStyle Design at no other time of year (and that would be your loss), it’s an essential stop at Halloween.  My last gasp for Halloween ’08–other than my own costume, which I was telling Oscar the other day never gets featured here, and yes, I do have mixed feelings about that–is just a small handful of some of my favorites from the vast collection of creations by Krius Misfit you’ll find at SiniStyle Design.  My “body snatcher” here is clearly up to no good, but fortunately he’s properly dressed and equipped for the unpleasant task at hand.  The “Mr. Bones” Stovepipe Hat features a leering skull mounted on the brim and grasping skeletal hands supporting (or attempting to tear down) the lopsided stovepipe crown.  Permissions are M C T, but three sizes are included for your fitting convenience.

grave_digger.jpgThe Grave Digger is a backpack-style attachment, which is always fun for me, and it’s madly detailed in both texture and construction.  You can click the dangling lantern to turn it on or off, and likewise you can click the coffin to hide or reveal the not-so-recently departed’s skeletal remains.  Permissions are M C T, and the included smaller and larger sizes have different rope strap-and-tie arrangements suitable for male and female avatars.

grave_digger_at_rest.jpgIf “Mr. Bones” isn’t quite your style, you may prefer the similarly styled but somewhat less ostentatious “Von Kreep” Stovepipe Hat.  Here, the brim sports a smaller, subtler Jolly Rogers-style skull and crossbones, the fabric texture is more worn and weathered, and the top of the crown is frayed with age.  In spite of these signs of wear, the overall impression is one of jaunty eccentricity.  Again, permissions are M C T, but three different sizes are included, so you needn’t worry your little, big, or average-sized head over fitting.

inner_demon.jpgEverybody has an inner demon.  Some of us struggle with that demon more than others.  Here, mine seems to have gotten the better of me, but I think you can see why.  I never had a chance.  The Inner Demon with Flexi Intestine (because, really, what’s better than a flexi intestine?) includes jacket-layer blood splatter effect, prim demon-hand attachment, and handy “lay dead” pose.  The demon hand looks like the title character of John Carpenter’s horror classic “Prince of Darkness” decided that a mirror wasn’t good enough, but your torso will do just fine–it rends, tears and clutches its way into our dimension by way of your digestive tract, to destructive effect.  The “lay dead” pose leaves you rather nastily and unnaturally splayed on the ground; clearly you’re not just sleeping.  Permissions are M C T.  All in all, very effective, and quite possibly a good way to get out of unwanted casual conversation, or dodge bill collectors.

oh_rats.jpgOh, Rats! depicts an inner infestation of a different kind.  In his very worst nightmares, this is what happens to Winston in Room 101.  Once again, you get a jacket-layer gross-out gore effect, so you can still wear undershirt- or shirt-layer tats or clothing.  The satanic rodents attempting to flee your sinking ship are prim attachments for your chest, stomach and leg, so you can mix and match.  The rats have glowing red eyes and squeak sound effects that you can turn off and on by touch.  Permissions are mysteriously missing from my notes, but I’ll look ‘em up and get back to ya M C T.

You may have noticed that I have inexplicably neglected to mention prices for these items.  Actually, there is a method to my madness, at least this time.  When I was there last night, Krius was putting out a lurid sign announcing a big sale this weekend.  Prices on many items are 30-50% off until November 2!  So you have all of this Halloween weekend to stock up.  Rather than publish prices here that are now or will soon be incorrect, I’ll let you have the fun of discovering the markdowns for yourself.

All this and much, much more is available at SiniStyle Design (SiniStyle 6, 6, 6).  The themed build is impressively spooky and appears to have been improved and enhanced not just since last year, but since my last visit.  Also, while you’re there, be sure to look for the completely accessorized and outfitted “Ash” avatar.  All I have to say is, “THIS is my BOOMstick!”
