[Guest Style Consultant] : Rhys Ackmann [ii]Swine Flu and You
All this talk lately about N1H1 Flu has got me thinking – why do we always have to look our best in SL? What about those days when you’re just not feelin’ it and want your AV to reflect that? My friend Miko has an answer, a folder with her Sick/Mental Health Day Outfit complete with bathrobe, hair towel, fuzzy slipper, eye covering cucumber slices and a mud mask, all perfect for just such a day. She tops it off with a tag reading “Haven’t had my Coffee” and a steaming mug. It’s hilarious!
So you can imagine my joy when I found the “I habe a code!” (got to love a good pun) Guy Skin (275L includes 3 skin tones) by Posy Trudeau. This skin come complete with red runny nose and a box of tissue! She has also created a insomnia skin with huge bags under the eyes and a hot mug of coffee (both also available for women as well). Now I too can look like I feel! Available at Posy’s Miau Haus store (Harajukubox 196, 143, 22).
What does every cold need? A nice sculpty scarf. I found this one, scarf argyle red by James Schechter, at Perfectionist (Dark Desires 184, 193, 1002). Now don’t hate me but it turns out that James is moving the store just now and I could not find the scarf out yet…hopefully he’ll be up and running again before you get sick.
The shirt is a new favorite of mine from Macho (Star Land 2 79, 228, 21). It’s called Heartbreaker (100L) and has a nice hand drawn feel to it. I found Macho during the MHOH (Make Him Over Hunt) and like to go back to see what they’re up too. They’ve added cool shoes and some contemporary shirts recently, so check it out.
I think it could have been the MHOH when I found WOE as well. Do you see a theme here? Yes, I really like to hunt, I see it as kind of a 3D solitaire, very relaxing (except when you can’t find the thing for the life of you – gerrrr lol). Anyway, I love WOE jeans, such great textures, shadows, rips and cuffs. These are Lucas Jeans Regular Fit, available for 175L. WOE (Serendipity Drive 135, 63, 24) has a wide range of jeans and some nice t-shirts for men, but that seems to be it for now. Still, I like going back to check for updates and I never miss one of their hunt gifts (always worthwhile!).
But what about jewelery, you ask? Got it covered, Lishi Nishi is a Master Jeweler (she graduated from the very demanding class early this year) who recently set up shop. She has a limited but very well made stock. My last visit to her shop, A Touch of Whimzie (Vantarsi South 40, 222, 22), she had only one male set out (well, that and a wedding ring set): Flutterby, which includes a necklace (not shown) and this bracelet (280L for the set). I’m really looking forward to what this designer will come up with next. I’m thinking we just need to give her a nudge to design more great male jewelry!
To have the right sick day look, you need the right mussy hair. I choose the Spencer hair by Truth. I found Truth (Truth Island 111, 211, 26) last year during the Halloween themed hunt. They gave out a fall themed version of Spencer, black with orange highlights which, I have to admit, I love. Unfortunately the orange clashed with the red nose, so today I’ve gone with the more traditional espresso (225L for a pack of 4 colors). I think it gives just the right amount of style and disheveled bed head for that sick day look we’re going for.
Last but not least I’m wearing the much blogged Bolts Sneakers by HOC Industries (Upper Fenland 42, 38, 67). One pair of sneakers with great sculpties, wonderful textures and a color changing script that lets them go with everything, all for only 40L? How can you not love them? They have several more styles for men and women, all almost as good as these, all at a very reasonable (some would say cheap) price.
There you have it, the “I’m home sick/having a mental health day and my AV should look it” outfit. OK, I know, if I really didn’t care how I looked I’d just put on any old thing from the Linden Library right? Alright, you got me, but just cause we’re sick doesn’t mean we have to go crazy!Â
Feel better soon,
Rhys Ackmann
Brava. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you for your post and I look forward to more creative posts!
I have a fabulous Plague Doctor ensemble I wear on occasion when I feel like shirking my gentleman apothecarian image.
And… get well soon.
Thanks Elric! Plague Doctor? Now that’s a dark day. lol
