Men's Second Style

Once upon a time, there was a boy.  But this was no ordinary boy–he was a boy who, perhaps through mutation or other accident of biology, was also a cat.  This was unusual enough, but then one day he was bitten by a great wild dog.  That’s when things really started to get interesting.

Justify:  If I had to say anything about Justify’s overall look, it could be summed up in one word: “dark”.  I’ve always kept him really monochrome–always black and dark grey.  There might be a splash of color every now and again, but the way I figured, he was in a big, dark, dangerous place, and naturally, you’d want to be able to blend in to try and stay safe.  He’s a [real] character, and pretty detailed I think.

You see, he exists in a dangerous urban jungle where survival of the fittest is the rule of thumb.  Being able to blend into the shadows is a skill made that much easier by keeping to dark colors, no jewelry to speak of, just tools…tools to survive.

He keeps a knife on his armbelt, a pistol on his leg and, of course, his trusty steel on his back.  He’s basically a smart-mouthed little son of a bitch that most people either love, or hate with a hate that burns hotter than a thousand hells.  That’s just how he is.  He knows how to push people’s buttons.

I love playing Justify, and I love making him look unique.  The only thing I do in SL is play this character in CoLA [City of Lost Angels] and shop around for cool stuff to outfit my avie.  I have a pretty extensive (not to mention well organised) inventory from which to make just about any variation of this character to whatever I may need him to be at any moment.

CoLA is a RP sim set in a dystopian future after some great apocalypse. There are several different races stretching from angels and demons, lycans and nekos, vampires and all sorts of crazy stuff.  My character is a neko that was recently bitten by a lycan and thus is slightly strange in appearance.  He’s a member of “The Pack,” which is the lycan faction in the RP.  I’ve been playing there for a good long while now.  It has its own little community where I’ve made some pretty good friends.  It’s basically the only thing besides shopping and exploring that I do in SL.

Ryan:  If there’s a lesson here, I think it’s that real passion for a “character” can push the creator, for that ongoing and refining act of creation, to heights of selectivity and creativity.  The result can be a fully realized persona that, like Justify’s neko/lycan hybrid, looks and feels fully real and organically grown, not just slapped together.  It’s an almost god-like responsibility, and one that Justify (the typist behind Justify the avatar) neither shirks nor takes lightly.  This isn’t an outfit put together in an evening or two, over the course of a few shopping trips (not that there’s anything wrong with that).  No, this is a real character, unique and original, with a distinct personality that projects and represents the ideas, wishes and dreams of the guy beyond the keyboard.  Whether you’re into RP or not, it’s kind of impossible to dismiss the quality and reality of Justify’s creation, or the time, care and effort that went into bringing him to life.
