[Guest Style Consultant] : jamie Cheeky

jamie_057.jpgI was told the hardest thing to do when you’re a guest style consultant was to write a few words on the outfit.  They probably had never met someone like me before, with a cazillion outfits and different looks in my inventory, by far the hardest was finding just one that shouted out here is jamie Cheeky, mainly because I morph alot on style.

The skin part is easy.  After 2.5 years of running about SL in a old Naughty skin I decided to go for a new look.  Zanzo Seraphim – Raphael (freckly) was perfect.  I’m not a 6 pack lover or a gorilla chest freak and Zanzo fitted the bill.  I got the freckles just because I thought they were cute and added a youthful spirit to the look.  $L 1200 at Zanzo.

jamie_010.jpgThe hair is by Find Ash, and it’s called “Guilty rave/amber”.  The messyness of it fits perfectly to the style I wanted, which was rebellious and youthful.  It just seemed to fit the face perfectly too.  $L 270 at Find Ash.

Clothes I get fussy on after 3 years.  I tend to go for small details that make them real looking.

I remember seeing these jeans in a blog and loved them big time.  They are Primitive Design Riot Little Bastard pants in dark blue.  I just liked the detail of the prim cuffs.  They just sat well with the jeans–I hate those ones that go half way up your leg and you can see where they join with the trousers.  And I love torn jeans…these dont have the odd mirror effect [like some] ones you can see out there, they just looked a bit different at the time when I bought them.  $L 220 at Primitive Design.

jamie_001.jpgI found this awesome leather jacket in Grasp.  I love the detail on it.  I usually steer clear from anything with a prim skirt but this just sits so well and I didn’t have to mess about at all…which is almost a gold dust experience for a smaller framed guy like me, normally most men apparently have to be 8 foot gorillas in SL.  $L 360 at +grasp+.

The shirt is from Muism.  I just liked the detail of it at the bottom.  It’s called its Up To You T-shirt.  I get ribbed alot by my partner for having almost everything in black so I try to get some colour into my outfits.  LOL  $L 185 at Muism.

I wear glasses real life and I wear them rather alot on SL too.  I have had these for ages–I own tons of glasses but these are by far the most worn.  They are made by ARAI and are called Glasses02 Black.  I liked these because well they look good with my face shape and they are very similar to my RL ones, haha.  Oh,  and also they are black!  $L 50 at *ARAI*.

jamie_015.jpgThe shoes are something I spotted and loved immediately.  These are made by Akeyo and are called Akeyo Shoes Chucks Skully.  The lace detail and the sole of the shoe are just awesome looking and the fact I could change the colour on any aspect/section of the shoes invidiually or together is a bonus.  They also have the resize script in so they can fit almost any size.  One problem I always used to have was that shoes were made too big for my tiny feet.  $L 600 at Akeyo.

OK, I couldn’t resist buying sommit new for this, and that is my prim nails.  My friend was showing me hers and they looked awesome, so thought I would check out the shop as you do!  Off I go to Love Soul and I  didn’t expect that I would be buying anything.  Then I spotted they had male ones, but not only that they also have the hand sizes so they fit nice n snug.  So I came away with my prim nails, Skull Men’s Silver of course in black.  ;)  $L 130 at ++Love Soul++.

jamie_052.jpgThe last thing I wear most of the time at the moment is my Black Ops HK USP guns.  I’m a bit of a gun freak.  I don’t do role play so they tend to be an expensive accessory, but I loved the detail on these and liked the way they sat on the hips.  They also allow you to draw just one or two guns at a time, with some fantastic animations to go with it all.  $L 1600 at Black Operations LLC.

I’d think that the prim nails would end up floating in the air as yer hand changes positions due to AOs or sitting on poseballs… has this been a problem?

I don’t have any prim nails myself (although I have tried a demo or two), but jamie did say this can be an issue, and I noticed it a few times as we tried different poses during the photo shoot. It’s the same problem as with rings–the hand attach point is used, and the central point of the hand doesn’t move, but your fingers do flex in different poses. You can minimize the “float” effect by choosing poses for your AO that don’t flex your fingers, but you may still see it happen on poseballs or in poses built into furniture. Definitely try a demo first, if available, to see if they’ll work for you.

Allegory Malaprop has played with scripting that moves attachments to pre-set “optimal” positions as your AO changes poses. She’s used this in some prim skirts, jacket bottoms and at least one or two rings, but I’m not sure about prim nails.

Fitting prim nails can also be a bear. jamie only just alluded to this in his write-up, but for these nails the designer has provided hand size settings, so you can just match your hand to the nails if you like. I’d guess that’s far easier than editing the nails themselves to fit, although you may still prefer to use your own hand shape settings, especially if they’re very different from the designer’s.

Thanks Ryan…. I was kind of hoping the designer had found a way around that. Guess it was just wishful thinking on my part :(

I had the same problem with a set of claws that I bought once. I could get them to look awesome on the pose stand, but the second I stepped off it they were floating in mid air due to my AO.

I eventually gave up trying to make it work and decided it was the AO or the claws. The AO won.

Maybe we should tie down a few Lindens with clout and not let them up till they give us finger attachments (and a second stomach or pelvis attachment point while we’re at it) :P

The complaint I’ve heard more often than any other from designers of prim accessories is More Attachment Points! Yeah, what we really need here is the ability to attach to individual fingers (and thumb). The only other ideas I have are:

    1. Prim hands. I’ve seen sandals with prim toes, as well as whole sculpted feet. Has anyone tried hands? I mean human hands, not creature hands for an avatar, say a werewolf…I have seen those. But I’m not sure how you’d make them look naturally sized etc. over your avatar’s own hands.

    2. Something to lock your hands in place. I picked up somewhere an attachment that locks my ankles, so they can’t bend and “break” high boots. It makes some stands look unnatural, so it’s a mixed blessing, but it does work. Has anyone done something like this for hands?
