[Guest Style Consultant] : Dimitri Shinn

Ryan: The first thing I noticed about Dimitri is that all of his prim accessories–clothing components, hair, jewelry, glasses–were perfectly fitted. It’s not that I’m constantly going around and checking out how guys have fitted their prims…well, actually I guess I do in fact do that. Hey, it’s part of the job! But almost any guy will let one thing or another slide just a bit, or decide not to lose any sleep over that one last strand of hair. Not Dimitri. I’m pretty uptight about fitting hair myself, so I feel his angst.
Dimitri: Well, I must admit, I was a little nervous when I sent in the application for the guest style consultant. I have been interested in doing something like this for quite some time and when I saw [Ryan's] post on the web site, I jumped at the opportunity. I have been in SL about five months now, but ever since the first month I have really been into men’s fashion. I create my outfits with the intention of being noticed and standing out in a crowd. I am more of a casual guy when it comes to clothes, but I don’t limit myself to that type of style. I also love to dabble in other types.
Ryan: The second thing I noticed about Dimitri was that, while his shape is muscular, it’s well built and in proportion, not overbuilt, top-heavy or otherwise disproportionate. In fact, while we were chatting he mentioned that, after five months in SL, he’s still tweaking his shape regularly. Of course my own avatar is on the small side–I’m fairly tall in RL, and I kinda like being conveniently pocket-sized in SL. Although I don’t present my shape as any kind of model for others, it feels “right” for me, and I like to think it’s balanced and realistic. That doesn’t mean that I’m blind to the appeal of larger, more muscular shapes. The strong, rugged, Marlboro Man type–yeah, I absolutely get that. But neither do I think that larger forms are immune to or exempt from the value and beauty of balance and proportion. After all, it’s clothing and accessories we’re dressing ourselves with here, not fig leaves!
Dimitri: When it comes to creating my outfit, I think the hardest part for me is the pants. I always wonder, “What will I wear today?” It could take me a few minutes to a few hours just to create a look because of that.
As for the following look I created, I just could not resist these jeans from WMD. It made the rest of my look so much easier as I had everything else in my inventory already. I think it is widely known that it is really hard to find really good jeans with such detailed “stitching,” and to top it off the “stitching” is in another color. I think this gives an excellent opportunity to mix and match many pieces of an outfit together with these pants.
I chose the Aitui shirt that had good prims to work with, like the cuffs and collar, giving it a very realistic look. The shoes were easy to choose because of the colors I had chosen for the outfit and the style cut of the jeans. I went for [these] ankle boots from Muism as [the profile] is not too flat and not high. It gave me just the right look I was trying to achieve. As for the tattoo, I chose this because the cut of the shirt was perfect to show some of the design from the tattoo. The bracelet has a lot of detail and went pretty well with the outfit. This style that I put together represents just one of the many types of casual personality from me.
