Gothic Aristocracy: BlueBlood and The Black Canary
Thanks for the intro Ryan!
Greetings, gents and.. well.. gents! My name is Micheru Mathys, and I’m the newest writer for Men’s Second Style! This is my first review, so please be gentile.
Before I go into the clothing I’m reviewing, I’ll give a bit of background on myself, since I’m the new guy. I’m twenty eight, and I’ve been inside of Second Life since November of 2005. I’ve experienced a lot of awesome things here, and made friends that are more real than some of the real life people I know.
I work for a corporate entity known as Max March Industries, and I’m involved in metaversal branding. I’ve been involved in a number of businesses here in SL, and I’ve got a heavy wardrobe here of formal clothes for black tie events. My other primary styles are Gothic Aristocratic, upscale casual, and occasionally a good set of T-shirt and jeans.
Anyhow, since this is my first post, I figured I’d review something unconventional and unique. I’m reviewing the styles of two developers. The Black Canary, a fabulous little Victorian design boutique run by Morrigan Denimore. Morrigan is a true gent, he has a number of active employees – his ‘dolls’, who display his recent releases in the store – and they aren’t bots! The first time I stumbled into his shop, I ended up walking out with such a number of freebies from his lucky chair, that I had a limited supply of what I could actually buy.
This is ‘Winter in London’, a definitely Victorian outfit for traipsing through the snowy streets, and doing so fabulously. I’m in love with the scarf, and I’ve thrown it on a number of other outfits I’ve worn. The lacing on the ends is pretty, and adds to the entire outfit. The brushwork on the coat is quite smooth, and it works well.
NOTE: The scarf is actually resized, it comes quite longer than this by default.
You can pick it up for $L250 at ~*{ The Black Canary }*~ Elegant Gothic Lolita Aristocrat, Quenzle (171, 99, 1001).
And here, we have Lovebound, a rather formal garb. A noble’s garb, perhaps to be worn to the queen’s ball, while romancing the ladies of the court. The texture work is beautiful, both in the corsetry of the coat, and the ribbons and attachments.
The coat coat tails are quite long, and flexi. The icon on the back reminds me of a family crest or order insignia.

The second designer is BlueBlood, by Ghanima Uriza. And while the supply of what you can purchase at her shop for men is slightly limited, it’s all deliciously textured and great work. BlueBlood designs what appears to be a mixture of Victorian gothic and modern upscale punk. I met her while exploring with Morrigan Denimore, and she gifted me with one of her releases…
Rain is a piece that comes in both male and female releases. It’s got long coat with a prim extention over a pair of formal pressed slacks and a black shirt with pink buttons – the only color on the piece. The only reason I’d ever find not to wear it would be that the coat doesn’t really come off well.
The pants have a texture overlap with the coat, and so with it off, it doesn’t work well. Everything else, however, is very pretty.
You can acquire Rain at Island of +++BLUE BLOOD+++, Watersedge Katmandu (236, 55, 23) for a mere $L300.
I fell in love with this piece from the moment I saw it on her shop wall. It’s got a beautiful contrast of purples, blacks, and gold buttons. It comes with the extended prim coat and the entire jacket has pretty swirls of gray. The coat collar is prim work, and has a chain running between the collar pieces.Â
The sunglasses and mask are included, and sculpted beautifully, and fit the outfit quite nicely – reminding me a bit of a neo-victorian motorcycle punk. The mask has crossed safety pins studding the face, and the shades have crossed X’s down the wings. The only conceivable problem I encountered with the outfit is that the mask tends to lose shape when cam’d out, but it’s still visible as what the object conveys.
You can pick Dedalo up at Island of +++BLUE BLOOD+++, Watersedge Katmandu (236, 55, 23) for $L300!
Just to finish up, I want to thank Ryan and the rest of Men’s Second Style for this opportunity and thank the designers for their talents at developing clothing! (and in both cases, for the free swag!)
For those curious about what skins and shapes I’m wearing, in the first two – Winter in London and Lovebound, I’m using the beige skin by [][]TRAP[][] and in the second set I’m using the Ewan skin by -Belleza-.
My eyes, as you may have noticed, don’t match. The green cat’s eye is an actual eyeset by AViD, and the left ‘human’ eye is a prim addition by *ANIMUS*.
The hair worn in Winter in London is Full Moon hair, tinted slightly purple, from The Abyss, which is where I took the first few screenshots. In Rain and Dedalo I’m wearing Clay from *Musim*, and finally, in Lovebound, I’m wearing Careless Midnight by !TM.
Cool with the odd-eyes, I do it myself. I went to Riddle for mine, since I’m not a fan of cat eyes (despite being a neko when I’m not rp’ing). I bought a set of blue and green eyes, and mixed and matched =^.^=
Looking forward to seeing some more of your reviews, though I’m not personally into the traditional goth look. Still, good work
