Dusting off the Old Inventory for Summer

Neko Gear Beach WearSo summer is in full swing for me. That means humidity and frequent thunder storms. But back home, on the other coast, summer means sun, beaches, and kicking back to relax and take care of things you forgot over the last few months. So I brushed the dust off my inventory and took a look at what freebies have been sitting there unused and untouched.

First off is a bit of beach wear from Neko Gear. This stuff is at least a good month old, gathering dust in my inventory as I’ve got way too much swim wear. Some of this stuff was covered by Adaire and Gecko over at free*style about a month ago. I’m wearing the beach towel freebie over my shoulder (you can lay it down too), along with a beach shirt, board shorts, and flip flops. I tend to avoid wearing logo branded freebies just because I don’t like being a walking advertisement, but the ones here aren’t that bad or overly flashy. They all kinda just fit together. Out of the box, the flips are a tad small but all of this stuff is modifiable and thus can be resized to fit rather easily.

XD Pup, RoleOptic Glasses, and Uncle Web HairUp top I’ve got a few different new things. The puppy was a bit of an accident (forgot he was up there), but is from XD Fusion. He retails for 500L but if you join the Puppeteer Prim Animators group (10L group join fee) you could grab him as a group gift. Though I’m not sure if its still in the archives.. I think I might have fallen just past the 2 week limit. However, if you pay the full 500L, you get a 2nd gray puppy as well, and can transfer one or both of the pups away as gifts.

On top of my head is hair from Uncle Web. Last time I was there there were two different freebie styles for guys, numbered two and three. This one is just called “Free Men’s Hair” so it might be the 1st in the set. I’ve added a dark blue tint to the out of the box brown to a black closer to my normal color.

Patriotic Pose in Fetch AlternativeOn my nose are freebie patriotic glasses from Role Optic. While I’ve seen both bikinis and high heels with the flag design, this was essentially the only item I found that was unisex. There are three styles available, but the third is distinctly feminine so I switch between the first two throughout this post. The glasses are are slightly menu-driven, able to switch to the “patriotic pose” that I am showing off here.

I must admit though, that I have two complaints . First off, the temples on the glasses are kinda short and don’t make it all the way to my ears. I’m not exactly sure how to fix this, but got around it by wearing hair that’d cover that up. My other quibble is about the violation of the flag code, particularly sections 8d and 8j. But hey, since just about every 4th of July freebie violates the flag code, I guess we can let it slide.

Fetch Alternative ShirtIn my second outfit I’m wearing some more stuff that I found in my inventory, right next to the Neko Gear stuff. The shirt and pants both come from Fetch Alternative. The jeans are just another pair of blue jeans, nothing special or awful about them. They are modifiable and tint a good range of colors without looking too weird. There are two shirts in the box, I’m wearing the Skullz one but there’s another called Faesthetic as well. Both are jacket layer only and modifiable, but they’re nicely done shirts. I’ve paired those with a pair of Creepers from SF Design that were a gift from Second Guy a long time ago. I saw then again while wandering around a display at SL5B Phantom.

Valiant Hoodie and AB Apparel JeansThis final outfit is actually older than the other two and I’ve been holding off on it because I was iffy about tellin y’all about a part. But I’ve told you before how I love hoodies, so I just had to cover this Excite black hoodie from the Valiant gift bag. It comes with two options, hood down like this or with hood up. The hood is stationary when it is up, so while it looks great straight on it your head will poke through the sides if you turn. Hood down though, its quite detailed and looks warm and comfy for a night out on the beach after the waves. The Valiant mainstore has been redesigned, so the bag is now atop a sign to the left of the entrance. It still is the last item to rezz for me upon arriving, so just wait and it’ll pop up. I held off on telling everyone because I was afraid Wavie had made a mistake with permissions, so I actually asked him about it. The bag is now almost all full permissions, fully intentionally. You can tint, copy, and experiment with his stuff as much as you’d like, or just pass it on to your newbie friends.

Gritty Kitty Hair, XD Pup, and Valiant HoodieWhile the freebie bag at Valiant has quite a few items I could wear with the hoodie (various types of shorts) I’ve opted instead to go with a dollarbie that essentially inspired me to start talking about budget fashion as a possibility on Men’s Second Style. These Z-fit classic denim jeans I’m wearing are from AB Apparel, part of the Jaeden set with along with the Vintage ‘72 Green Shirt. If I remember correctly, this set was first released back around September or October last year. The shirt has always bugged me, since has this odd grit to it that ‘m not a fan of. But the jeans are white good, and one of the rare “lighter” tones I like. To finish up the outfit I added a hair style from Gritty Kitty’s group called Myspace. The group costs 10L to join when Noam has a group gift out, but there’s a tanktop in the archives now too so if you join soon you’ll get two for the price of one.

edit: as I finished up this post I got another 4th of July freebie from the Refuge Subscribomatic. Its a ringer tee, free from the group history or a dollarbie in the main store.

Hmm, I’ve got a few UncleWeb hairstyles floating around too. I remember they looked good in the shop and as demos. I need to bust those out. :D

If you want the hoodie’s hood to turn with your head, you should be able to work that out by choosing another attachment point. My guess is that the hood attaches to the chest or spine by default, so it doesn’t move. To me, that makes more sense for the lowered hood. Try attaching the raised hood to your mouth or chin instead and it will move with your head. You’ll have fine-tune the position, of course. It’s copiable, so make a copy and play with that one to avoid having to reset if you don’t like the results, or if you just want the easy choice.

brought to you by the letter R? :P

I did toy around with attachments points for the hood but Wavie did such a good job putting it in place that when it turns the hood doesn’t look as good. I’ll toy with it more and see what I can do.

Yeah, that’s the flip side–it may simply look better, if not quite as “natural,” for the hood to stay put rather than turn with your head. I’ve seen the same thing with prim collars on coats and jackets.
