Dancing on the head of a pin

For Halloween this year, or rather for the ongoing series of run-up parties and gatherings I’ve been enjoying attending, I’ve been sorting through the shockingly large accumulation of outfits and avatars in my “Bare Rose” inventory folder. Needless to say, it’s been a fascinating experience. How did so many things from Bare Rose pile up? I only wondered that until I remembered how a typical shopping trip to that amazing store tends to go, at least for me:
- TP to Bare Rose
- Wait for new-items vendors to rez
- Wait for vendor textures to rez
- See something delightful that I can’t live without
- Click to buy
- Go to step 4 and repeat until crash or time for dinner, whichever comes first
Here’s the problem: June Dion is astonishingly productive and endlessly creative, and she prices most of her outfits, ensembles and avatars in the L$100 range. At prices so reasonable, I’m not too worried about the general lack of demos—I figure I’m sure to get more than my money’s worth in enjoyment, no matter what. It’s also frighteningly easy to take home two or three new things at once, or six or eight, if my L$ balance is flush…hence the dramatic accumulation and resulting embarrassment of sartorial riches.
June’s Warrior Angel White ensemble didn’t immediately shout “Halloween party!”—at least not just from its name. But once I tried it on, I knew it was the look I wanted for a particular dance event. Garment-layer items—shirt, pants, socks, gloves—provide the foundation for the ensemble, including base fabric and armor-plate detailing that’s really quite beautiful. The handful of sculpted attachments adds depth and shape in the form of epaulets that define the shoulders, fabric swaths that wrap around the torso, and a flexi skirt for the classic angelic toga.
The wings are both beautiful and impressive, with plenty of fine detail work in the feathers. They’re gracefully flexi, so you get some realistic movement when flying, moving or just changing positions. I did tweak the wings from their “out of the box” configuration—they were set to full bright, which I turned off in favor of a very low glow setting, about 0.05, that adds an appropriately heavenly gleam but doesn’t completely swamp out the detail in the feathers. The wings are moddable, so you can tweak yours to suit your own preferences. There’s also an attachment that adds a suitably holy radiant light that appears to emanate from behind your avatar and leaves a trail of glowing clouds that slowly dissipate in your wake. You can click to turn this attachment on and off, or simply choose not to wear it.
June Dion’s White Angel Knight can be yours for just L$150. At Bare Rose (Bare Rose 223, 74, 30).
