Christmas freebies
December 22nd, 2007 at 09:58pm Ryan Darragh
In addition to the Santa hats at Chicanery and the Candy Cane at Gaslights Emporium, I found a number of great holiday freebies this year. One man’s no-brainer is another man’s brilliant inspiration, and rather than sit on these selfishly I decided to share just a few of my favorites here. I hit the holiday jackpot, so to speak, at Wilted Rose, where I found this Winter Outfit by Lotti Lusch for just L$1. This really is a complete outfit–the set includes pants, shirt-layer V-neck sweater with prim cuffs, chunky prim shoes, long flexi scarves in red and grey, and fuzzy ear muffs. The sweater, pants and scarves are very nicely done, with realistic fabric textures. The pants in particular look like they feel soft, comfortable and happily worn. If you only spend a single L$ on yourself this holiday season, drop it on this outfit–it’s easily the best quality-and-value bang for your Linden buck. Ladies note–the set includes a women’s version too!
A pair of different hairstyles by Rose Columbia provide the opportunity to dress up for the holidays far more than you could do in real life, at least not without significant hassle (and possibly permanent scarring). “Eddie” is a short, spiky style, perfect for casual wear…although honestly, with its bright candy-cane texture, how formal could it ever possibly get?
“Sleek” is a longer unisex style, again textured with candy-cane stripes. If you put this together with a tuxedo for a holiday party, be sure send me a picture! I’ll post it here.
Both styles are priced at L$1. Other freebie styles are available for the ladies as well–just look under the Christmas tree near the store entrance. The Winter Outfit and these hair styles are available at Wilted Rose (Bloom County 73, 125, 24).
These Mistletoe Boxers by sachi Vixen are Adam n Eve’s holiday gift to their customers of the male persuasion. They’re attractively textured in silk fabric, with a festive (and suggestive? surely not!) mistletoe decoration on the left leg. The set includes boxers on the underwear layer in both Red and Green. Buy them for L$0 at Adam n Eve (Genesis 26, 150, 22). Menswear is upstairs.
I can’t resist including one more Santa hat, just for good measure. This one, by Lucian Commodore, is traditionally styled but with distinctive steampunk detailing–rather than being sewn from cloth and trimmed with fur, it appears to be built out of metal plating and held together by rivets. The fit is surprisingly comfortable, all things considered.
Available for L$0 at P. Irate & Co. (Port Babbage 79, 220, 27). Buy from the snowman just outside the shop entrance.
Other great freebie accessories include the flexi scarf, gloves and hat I’m wearing here, by swaffette Firefly of SF Design. The scarf and gloves are neutrally colored “out of the box,” but I’ve tinted them red to go with my winter wonderland ensemble. The gloves have prim cuffs for a realistically rumpled look. The Santa hat has flexi fur and plays a sound clip (”We wish you a Merry Christmas…”) when touched. Also available but not shown here are flexi Santa neckties that also play a sound when touched (”Ho ho ho!”). All are included in a gift-boxed set you can buy for L$0 at SF Design (Innisfree 134, 48, 537)–check the small table standing near the holiday display with tree and Santa.
If you’ve found other worthwhile holiday freebies this year, post a comment and let us know!

Nice round-up, Ryan. There are so many designer freebies floating around SL this holiday, but very few are for the male avs. Thanks for posting these.
Garbage Prototype of Random @ Hallgerda (142, 76, 598) also has a set of freebie graphic tees - Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa.
Happy Holidays

Second-Man.com has become my secret weapon… I grabbed this outfit from Wilted Rose this morning, then won a costume contest at my favorite dance club to the tune of $2000L… Merry Christmas, and thank you for the great reviews! (I also picked up the Tonktastic boots you reviewed recently — they are great!)

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve heard of any outfit paying back 2000 times its purchase price. Sweet!

I wonder how many people will be entering that costume contest next year . I think you might have more competition seen as how you have gave them all your secret weapon but good luck
