So, I went away for a while. When I left, Mr. Oh had just started his reviews, and Catero had gone on hiatus. Now that I’m back, I see all these new guys. And they all look mighty familiar.
I became skinny goth emo boi because it seemed like every other guy in SL was big buff tan guy. But now that all I see on the blog are skinny dark-haired guys, I can’t keep it up. I gotta stand out! And if that means going for the big B, so be it. (more…)

I sagged against the ropes. Breath rasped in my throat, and I tensed as the cat came down again across my back. I would have pleaded for mercy, could I find the breath, though none would have given it. The boatswain shouted the count, and down came the cat once more. Pirates stood on either side of me, grinning and shouting. I took a grip on the ropes and yearned for unconsiousness. (more…)

Ryan : I love wearing sandals. I grew up in the U.S. Midwest, not exactly a farmboy, but still I spent more than my share of time running around barefoot. Even as an adult, at the end of my workday, the first thing that happens once I get home is the shoes come off. All summer long, I’m looking for any excuse not to wear shoes. For me, sandals are the perfect solution–they can complement any look, from completely casual to somewhat dressy. Even if I can’t be lounging on a balmy patio, awaiting the arrival of companions bearing frosty tropical drinks, my feet may well think that I am. I’ll wear sandals with pretty much anything (although, hmm, I have yet to try them with a tux). In fact, I sometimes get crap for wearing sandals when others find it stylistically inappropriate. They’re entitled to their opinions, of course, even when they’re wrong.

“If only you could see what I have seen with your eyes.” — Roy Batty
I’ve had this idea kicking around in my head for some time now, but I was never really sure how to make it work or even if I could pull it off, close-up photography of avatar details being the challenge that it is. But it kept nagging at me, and I kept worrying it over, and finally I thought, “Well, maybe.” So here we are. Of course there’s also the question of how useful it will be to you, The Reader. You’ll have to be the judge of that.
Cliché: The eyes are windows to the soul. (Do SL avatars have souls? Maybe on the other side of the keyboard. That’s probably a discussion for another time.) Truth, subjective though it may be: The eyes are, or at least are perceived as, the outward expression of something inner, and definitely affect our perception of others. These are some of the eye designs that have become my favorites over time. Any one of these designers has more eyes than I can feature here, some of them vastly so. This brief overview is intended to do no more than give you a closer look at some of my personal favorites. (more…)

In 1949 George Orwell’s cautionary tale against totalitarianism and democratic socialism was published. Within the world of the novel 1984, social and political upheaval have resulted in a dystopian future. Institutional propaganda, complete subordination to political cause, sexual oppression, concentration camps and leader worship (Big Brother) weigh down on the masses. Personal expression is a crime.
Though his main store location is influenced by the novel and movie, Broder Kubrick’s creations attempt to break away from the standard issue to provide his own brand of gritty clothing and accessories in BroGear. The derelict shop is situated within an isolated, stone-set market amid large Stalin-esque banners of Broder, His Supreme Imminence, that warn “Big Broder is Watching” and “War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Strength”. As shoppers peruse the goods within, loudspeakers intermittently blaze with news of wartime progress. (more…)

I thought I would try something different and do an overview of an item category available from different designers. In this entry, I’m not focusing on a particular designer or attempting to be comprehensive, just sharing some info on well designed, quality things I think are worth your attention (and money). If this kind of post is useful or of interest to you, leave a comment to let me know and I’ll do others in the future. I decided to start out with men’s dress shoes, which I thought deserved some attention. In no particular order…
Barnes Men’s Pointy Dress Shoes feature a great design and high-quality textures, so they really stand out. Five styles area available: black leather, brown leather, oxblood leather, black crocodile, and brown crocodile (pictured). Each is available individually for L$150, or you may prefer the pack of all five styles for L$400. A shoe shape is included to ensure a perfect fit. Design by Barnesworth Anubis. Available at Barnes Boutique (Tableau 182, 162, 23).
