For Halloween this year, or rather for the ongoing series of run-up parties and gatherings I’ve been enjoying attending, I’ve been sorting through the shockingly large accumulation of outfits and avatars in my “Bare Rose” inventory folder. Needless to say, it’s been a fascinating experience. How did so many things from Bare Rose pile up? I only wondered that until I remembered how a typical shopping trip to that amazing store tends to go, at least for me:

1. TP to Bare Rose
2. Wait for new-items vendors to rez
3. Wait for vendor textures to rez
4. See something delightful that I can’t live without
5. Click to buy

It is not widely known that the Fae Airborne Legion played a critical role in several key victories during the Clockworks Campaign of 1864. In fact, the very existence of the Fae Airborne Legion is not widely known. This is doubtless due to the fae people’s resistance to fame and publicity. Written history (human, of course, as the fae keep no such tradition) is all but mum on the subject. Nonetheless, oral histories of fae and human alike document and retell tales of decisive victories, such as the one at Gorham Grange, that would surely have been routs but for the contributions of the FAL. I’m having trouble believing that, after all this time, I’ve never actually featured any of Kala Bijoux’s wings here. Oh sure, I’ve worn them any number of times as accessories. This year, rather than doing one big “round-up” of Halloween ideas, I thought I’d put together a series of costumes and post them individually in the several days leading up to Halloween.  I thought this would not only be more fun, but might also give you a little extra time to do your shopping.  I have no idea how many posts there will ultimately be in this series, but I’m hoping for something in the neighborhood of “several,” so check back for more! I wonder what it’s like inside the mind of Raven Pennyfeather? I imagine a vast, dimly lit chamber draped in heavy, dark velvet, with plush carpets underfoot. Great paned windows look out into the starry, starry night like inquisitive eyes. Scattered about are immense wooden chairs, elaborately carved and with deep upholstery, perfect for pausing to reflect on one of the many ideas that flit about quickly, glittering in the dark.

Or maybe this is just Raven’s design studio. It certainly seems that only such a place could possibly be origin to her outrageously elaborate gothic haute couture clothing designs. Her new ensemble for men is called “Dysis,” perhaps named after the Greek goddess of the hour of the sun’s setting. This would seem appropriate, perhaps on more levels than that most immediately obvious. Read the rest of this entry »

Goth1c0 is a store close to my heart, since it’s the first modern goth store I found in SL, and it’s still one of my favorites. Keishii Roo’s newest release in menswear is the complete outfit Angel of Death, including pants and shirt laden with buckles, a prim belt with “half-rotted sarong,” and the crowning point, the tattered and pierced flexi-wings.

While I am a huge (HUGE) fan of buckles, the horizontal positioning of the straps and buckles across the torso inevitably mean that they’ll be pulled out of shape on the avatar. Still, the sheer amount of metal in this outfit (rings! studs! pins! BUCKLES!) makes up for that, in my opinion. The red waffle inserts in the pants set off the small criss-crossing leather straps, and the leather has just the right sheen without being super-shiny or blingy. Especially on the butt (not pictured, ahem.) Some people give good butt highlight, and Keishii’s one of them. Read the rest of this entry »
