So, I was out on an insane shopping spree with Kith on Monday. I won’t bore you with details of the whole crazy excursion, but I will say that we had a lot of fun, and that my L$ balance is still reeling in shock. Ouch! But it hurts so good.
Although you’ll undoubtedly be seeing further fallout from that shopping trip in days to come, I kinda couldn’t wait to bring one set of items to your attention. I don’t do a lot of posts focused on a single item these days–my ambitions somehow get set way up high, and the posts get all complicated, and then they take a long time to put together. I have fun, which is selfishly important to me, but it can drag things out. Friends have encouraged me to mix things up and Fear Not the One-Off, so today I have just one thing for you. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Okay, cue the Radio Announcer Guy voice… (more…)

Nothing says “I love you” like jewelry. And I’m not just talking about the ladies here–it’s a not-very-secret secret that guys like jewelry, too. I think it’s because there’s so little good lingerie out there for us. I mean, hey, a good pair of boxer briefs and we’re done. (Although, hmm, there are always silks…) I’m not talking about watches, either, at least not today. I love watches, but for me they’re more an accessory item than jewelry. Jewelry is something you wear just because it’s pretty. There, I said it and I’ll say it again: pretty. Deep down, you know it’s true.
In case you haven’t noticed, Valentine’s Day is coming right up, check your calendar!  For your gift-giving consideration, I thought I’d suggest some jewelry items that I love and admire. I’m hoping that you (or your man) might like them too.

That’s right, the throwdown is back! As I told you last week, we’ve got twice as many people this time around for a tag team throwdown. I’m up against Nicolas Sinatra and Dahlia Eilde of the couples fashion blog, Bonnie & Clyde. Both are experienced models, currently employed by Nex-Core Model Management. On top of that, Bonnie & Clyde is one of the first couples fashion blogs for Second Life, so they have plenty of experience working together. I’ll be teaming up with my lovely wifey, TheDiva Rockin, Chief of the SL Fashion Police, and hoping we can keep pace with em.
Our theme is “Snow day.” Why’s that? Because a good portion of the Northern Hemisphere has experienced snow in the past few weeks. Basically, its too cold for me go outside. Luckily, SL lets us play in the snow without the cold, the wet, the mushy, and the soggy.
It’s a win-win for everyone.

Last time I saw Jesseaitui Petion, he was busy getting his new menswear designs set out, arranged to his satisfaction, and properly priced so he could re-open Aitui to the public. Pretty much every time I’ve seen or talked with him, he’s been pretty mellow, but that night he was a man on a mission. He said that he’d probably be pulling an all-nighter, and I thought, Wow, I thought we gave all that up when we finished college. I guess some things don’t change. He re-opened a few days ago now, so you may have already discovered his new collection, but I wanted to share a few of my favorite items with you here.
I don’t know if Jesse considers his Tokyo Intake Jacket (L$235) the centerpiece of his new collection, but to me it epitomizes the attitude and vibe of his new designs. The jacket is cut high rather than low on the hip, and it can be worn with or without the untucked printed tee (the tee is not on a separate clothing layer and can’t be worn on its own). Although I’m wearing one of Jesse’s scarves here–more on that in a moment–the jacket has a sculpted turned-up collar, which Jesse has thoughtfully provided pre-set for two different attachment points (chest and spine). Several different fabric finishes are available; Charcoal is shown here. I love love love this jacket and I’m already plotting what other cool tees I can wear with it. Although Christmas Day was fair and mild (if blustery) where I live in Los Angeles, since then it’s been just plain cold and windy. If this keeps up, this might be the first year in a long time that the weather is actively unpleasant for the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day. (The standing joke is that the parade commissioner must long ago have made a deal with the devil for good parade weather every year. Don’t believe the clear, sunny skies you see when you watch the parade on television–they’re the work of Satan! Every other day of winter is ugly and cold.) These classic “long johns” by Ichibod Etchegaray are just the thing for cold winter nights, and I’m thinking seriously about investing in some for my RL self…especially if I can find some that look like these. In what threatens to become an annual tradition if he keeps it up, Dragontat Zagato has released the 2007 edition of his holiday collection of briefs and trunks at Brief Encounter. There are eight different designs this year: Blue Yule, Canes, Ho! (no puns, please), Xmas Mosaic, Naughty, Xmas Paisley, Xmas Plaid and Rudolph. As always, all designs are available both brief and trunk styles, and all are provided on both underwear and pants layers, for wear with tattoos and other layering convenience. I personally prefer the trunk style, and in my humble opinion it seems a bit more forgiving of the inevitable “tearing” at the edges as your avatar moves and assumes different poses.  In fairness, pattern stretching is arguably worse on trunks as the fabric extends onto the upper leg, so it may come down to which you find less objectionable, or (imagine!) simple personal preference. In addition to the Santa hats at Chicanery and the Candy Cane at Gaslights Emporium, I found a number of great holiday freebies this year. One man’s no-brainer is another man’s brilliant inspiration, and rather than sit on these selfishly I decided to share just a few of my favorites here. I hit the holiday jackpot, so to speak, at Wilted Rose, where I found this Winter Outfit by Lotti Lusch for just L$1. This really is a complete outfit–the set includes pants, shirt-layer V-neck sweater with prim cuffs, chunky prim shoes, long flexi scarves in red and grey, and fuzzy ear muffs. The sweater, pants and scarves are very nicely done, with realistic fabric textures. The pants in particular look like they feel soft, comfortable and happily worn. If you only spend a single L$ on yourself this holiday season, drop it on this outfit–it’s easily the best quality-and-value bang for your Linden buck. Dragontat Zagato (yes indeed, he of Desert Moon Clothiers fame, the very same) recently undertook a complete redesign of his underwear line, available at Brief Encounter. His old styles have been retired, and his new line features all-new fabric patterns and improved fabric textures. As you can see from this small selection, there’s something for everyone, from more restrained patterns to wilder designs that may come as a special surprise to that special someone. 
Although I myself am a boxer-briefs/trunks kind of guy, I’m including here several from the briefs collection as well. Dragontat knows that a lot of guys like ‘em, even though they’re not my thing. All styles come on both the underwear and pants layer for flexibility and convenience. (more…)

Following some constructive and pointed feedback from our valued readers the format of this segment as been slightly adjusted. You are really making me work for this. But I enjoy a good challenge. Items have been arranged in categories and descriptions have been made more concise (3 to 5 short sentences each). Due to time and resource constraints designer-created images have been used in the product highlights. If there are any further comments you may have on the changes please feel free to post.
Is it any wonder that this was also a week that was rife with male fashion content? We’ve got a fairly diverse round-up with amongst the categories in addition to two sales. And of course I felt obligated to write about the quality products I saw and/or tried on.

I managed to wittle down this week’s bulletin to only four items, which affords me the opportunity to spend a little more time to focus on each. And I’m doing it completely guilt free.

For some time now, designer Kasi Tandino has been quietly adding quality men’s items to her line of fashions at Symmetry, which originally featured designs for women only. This week’s new release–the tuxedo you see here–prompted me to get my act together and at long last review her growing collection for men. “Tuxedo Nights” is available in fourteen colors: Mauve, Silver, Pink, Purple, Red, Royal, Cobalt (pictured), Emerald, Gold, Lime, Aqua, Baby Blue, Black and Maroon. It’s often difficult to balance one’s real life with one’s Second Life pursuits. As a reviewer I am often riddled with a guilty conscience when I am unable to complete product coverage on some of the great items I view on a weekly basis. I can only imagine whether Ryan and Ben also suffer from Reviewer’s Remorse Syndrome (RRS) or not.
Efforts to soothe my inner turmoil have given rise to ‘This Week in Men’s Fashion’ where I hope to give concise overviews on some of the quality goods popping up all over the grid that enhance the male shopping experience. Through commenting, please lend us your thoughts on this trial component for the blog.

After months of anticipation and two sneak peaks for Dazzle Girls group members, Ginny Talamasca (a.k.a Devyn Carmichael) opened the doors to Last Call, her updated fashion haus. Prior to Last Call, Ginny designed the hugely successful Dazzle brand which was particularly well-known for its formal dresswear.
The spacious store itself has a department store layout which is divided into six key areas. Though layout signage has been strategically placed throughout, the floorplan is well laid-out. Even without reading the signs shoppers have easy visual and physical access to the various departments. In addition to the primary Femme and Homme sections, Last Call is comprised of “Qismat” (Gorean fashions for men and women), “Vamp” (couture-inspired shoes for the ladies), “Covet” (jewellery and accessories by Lyra Muse; located in each gender-specific section), and “Catharsis” (men’s undergarments and women’s lingerie). Display panels located in the central lobby area feature a selection of female skins which have been themed to reflect the new brand, in addition to gift certificates in denominations of 250L, 500L, 1000L, 2500L, and 5000L. For some of us, Valentine’s Day can be…traumatic. You know who you are. If you’re in that crowd, I want to do something a little different for you here. Here are a few great V-Day ideas I’ve run into recently. Hopefully, some of these will work for you. 
First up, a few things to wear, then on to some gift ideas.
It’s a perennial, really. Every year we see another round of Valentine’s Day-themed boxers for the guys–although I’m sure the girls can wear them too, yeah baby! The catch is finding the good ones among the teeming masses. Designer Ravelynn Templar of Liquid Velvet Studios has released her Silky Whispers boxers in two different designs for Valentine’s Day, “Be Mine” (shown at left) and “Kiss Me,” similar in design but scattered with lipstick kisses instead of red hearts. You may have been nice all year, but Lollypop Extraordinaire knows you really wanted to be naughty. Her new holiday ensemble is perfect for a Christmas Eve or Christmas morning surprise! “Mistletoe for Men” includes a “Kiss Me Under the Mistletoe” tank tee, boxers, Santa hat, prim mistletoe attachment, and mistletoe kiss animation as a wearable attachment. The boxers and hats are included in both red and green, so you can mix them up for different looks. The mistletoe cleverly attaches by default in an especially naughty location–very appropriate, all things considered. The hat attaches to the chin, so it won’t displace your prim hair, although you may have fun finding a hairstyle that won’t poke through the hat. (Your best bet might be wearing a skin that includes hair as part of the skin texture.) The white fur trimming the hat is somewhat flexi for a fun effect.

Chloris Hathor has been creating jewelry and clothes for women for a little while in SL as far as I can tell from her post history on the forums. On Sunday, she released her first batch of items for us guys. Although it’s just some simple jeans, a few shirts, and boxers, her designs are great looking and have good quality construction.
The jeans have nice details with a subtle cuff at the bottom, and the pack contains belted and non-belted versions. I love the uber-casual look of the layered polos. There is also a beater tank and a set of boxer shorts for sale. Let’s hope this is just the beginning of her line for men!

I’ll cut right to the chase: Brief Encounter is the best men’s underwear shop I’ve found in SL. Now, I have some other underwear I wouldn’t want to have to live without (the Barnes Boutique boxer briefs by Barnesworth Anubis, the Naughty Designs briefs by Lost Thereian). But for sheer fun as well as great style, nothing beats Dragontat Zagato’s designs for Brief Encounters. I’ve done plenty of shopping at the B.E. store in Linda, but I heard they had some new stuff out and decided this time to drop by the main store at Yeanim (109, 80, 22).

Janie Marlowe of Mischief has a secret… The secret is that she has a LOT of men’s clothes in her store! I feel bad I have neglected writing this review for so long since I wear these clothes a lot. I know most of you SL fellas probably just go commando style around here, but if you have gone looking for a good first layer to impress that new cyber-girlfriend, you know there are not a lot of choices.
