Dusting off the Old Inventory for Summer

Neko Gear Beach WearSo summer is in full swing for me. That means humidity and frequent thunder storms. But back home, on the other coast, summer means sun, beaches, and kicking back to relax and take care of things you forgot over the last few months. So I brushed the dust off my inventory and took a look at what freebies have been sitting there unused and untouched.

First off is a bit of beach wear from Neko Gear. This stuff is at least a good month old, gathering dust in my inventory as I’ve got way too much swim wear. Some of this stuff was covered by Adaire and Gecko over at free*style about a month ago. I’m wearing the beach towel freebie over my shoulder (you can lay it down too), along with a beach shirt, board shorts, and flip flops. I tend to avoid wearing logo branded freebies just because I don’t like being a walking advertisement, but the ones here aren’t that bad or overly flashy. They all kinda just fit together. Out of the box, the flips are a tad small but all of this stuff is modifiable and thus can be resized to fit rather easily. (more…)

Men’s Corner: RFL in style

rfl_2007.jpg
Chances are that you’ve at least heard of Relay For Life, the annual overnight fundraising walk benefiting the American Cancer Society. The event is designed to further awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures; to remember those who have been lost to cancer and celebrate survivors; and to raise money for ongoing cure research. The Second Life embodiment of this effort is Relay For Life of Second Life. In 2007, through the efforts of 40 teams RFL of SL raised a grand total of over L$118,000! (more…)

Reaction Easter Sale

Reaction rashie and boardiesReaction has an Easter Sale going on from the 19th, until the the 23rd of March. All items will be 50L or less, so a shirt, pants, and shoes set will definitely be under my weekly limit of $150L. The Alternation crew (Reaction, Reaction Girl, and WRONG) have a long history of generous freebies. Back around Christmas time last year, they released a series of daily gift freebies. In addition, the owner of Reaction, Radical Twang, was handing out gift cards up to $1500L for relatively minimal work. The giftcards were even more useful when the Alternation crew pulled a Crazy Day sale in early February, featuring prices as low as $3L for a shirt and $8L for shoes. Needless to say, I’ve picked up quite a few Reaction items over time.

Reaction is primarily a surf shop, so expect a wide variety of board shorts. In the picture to the left, I’m wearing the Skullies boardies with a black Rashie. All of Radical’s textures are created from scratch, and his detail work shines through. He’s managed to find just the right amount of shading and wrinkling so that his clothes look neither flat nor photo-sourced. (more…)

New: Men’s sarong sets @ Nicky Ree’s Boutique

sarong.jpgpants.jpgEvery so often, Nicky Ree does a little something for the guys.  I’m always glad to when this happens, because it’s always something fun and different.  You may remember (or own) her batik beachwear for men (reviewed previously).  This time she’s come up with four great men’s sarong sets in different patterns and colors–the perfect antidote to the autumn chill many of us are feeling in the air.

Now, you may not consider yourself the “outfit” type but bear with me.  These sets include the sarong (worn on the skirt layer) with prim waistband and coordinating pants, shirt (worn on the jacket layer for length) and swimsuit.  All pieces can be mixed and matched without fear of clashing–it’s better than Garanimals!  Pop culture warning: you may have to be of a certain age to get that reference.  ;)

Casual beachwear @ Nicky Ree’s Boutique

Shirt_pants2.jpgFirst off, a thank-you shout out to Sean for turning me on to this great casual beachwear for men at Nicky Ree’s Boutique, at Plush Lambda 152, 21, 22. (The main store in Plush Lambda is pretty large, and men’s items are also available at the smaller store at Dublin 58, 222, 26, which may be easier to shop in.) If you’re looking for something new and fun to wear to that upcoming tiki party, look no further! These color-coordinated Batik-design outfits include a short-sleeved shirt, pants, long swim shorts, and swim trunks. They are available in seven colors (red, purple, blue, brown, grey, blue-grey, and green) for a very reasonable L$200 per set. The design artwork is very nicely done, and all the clothing pieces have a great casual feel. (more…)
