Rite of Spring

Every year, about this time, I find myself on the lookout for an outfit, ensemble, accessory—something—that’s at least vaguely Easter-y in theme or tone. I’m not really sure why. It’s not like I’m looking for Valentine’s Day outfits every time February 14 rolls around. How many times can you dress up like Cupid, anyway? Read the rest of this entry »

Not your typical Christmas angel

No shepherds here. No wise men. No baby. No stable, either. No bright, bright star up in the sky. Just an angel. Read the rest of this entry »

A sweater a day [vii] : Reila Skins

You know, this might just be the last sweater in this series. Not because I don’t have more lined up and ready to go—as a matter of fact, I do!—but because there are, of course, other things. Like coats. Don’t worry, I’ll do something else before moving on to more winter wear, but I do think I feel a coat or two coming on. Maybe three…we’ll see. Read the rest of this entry »

A sweater a day [vi] : Sartoria

It isn’t always a simple task to make “dressing up” look effortless and natural. Traveller Bade makes it his singular mission to assist you in this endeavor, and his fine men’s clothing store is just a click away, should you require his services. The very name “Sartoria” tells the tale: your every fine sartorial sense will be spoken to, your every refined sartorial whim indulged. In this case, I would argue, self-indulgence is not necessarily a vice. Read the rest of this entry »

A sweater a day [v] : Zoobong

Nope—I haven’t run out of sweaters! Not yet. I’m sure you were wondering, those of you following along at home. But yes, I do have some other things to share, a bit more variety waiting in the wings. But check outside—isn’t it chilly? Just a little? It’s still Winter out there, and my inventory hasn’t crashed the asset server yet, so here’s one more warm-and-fuzzy sweater for your consideration. I do have even yet still more to come, at least a few, but I’ll try to mix things up a bit, here and there, to keep things interesting. Read the rest of this entry »

A sweater a day [iv] : Hell Bop

I know what you’re thinking—Christmas is over. It’s true, December 25 has come and gone. But there are, after all, twelve days of Christmas, and I like to make the most of it. Only just today is it Twelfth Night, the Feast of the Epiphany, and I’m still listening to holiday music at home, although I’ve moved on almost exclusively to instrumental recordings. I kind of can’t stand it that the Christmas decorations are out for sale before Halloween, but I do like to let the season wind down gracefully and naturally across all twelve days. A sweater a day [iii] : Hudson’s Clothing Co.

Candace Hudson’s Cable Knit N Blues sweater/scarf combo is a superbly handsome example of the form. The sweater is a very deep charcoal, the better to coordinate with pretty much anything, and the set includes not just one but two scarves: a more conventional “narrow” scarf fitted around the neck, and a more substantial “wide” scarf that’s wrapped around both shoulders. An optional matching headband doesn’t cover your ears and may or may not keep you warm, but it certainly coordinates nicely. The sculpted turtleneck collar, sleeve cuffs and sweater bottom make the fit look appropriately but not overly bulky. Read the rest of this entry »

A sweater a day [ii] : Aitui

Jesseaitui Petion’s rigged-mesh Schofield Sweater is perhaps less obviously wintry in its styling than Guapo Hansome’s more traditionally constructed College Bound Cardigan, but it’s equally well suited for crisp, cold weather and fun activities that go along with that. The texture work is smooth and delicate, and the sweater’s weave has a lovely sheen. The loose, deep cowled collar might suggest the risk of catching a chill, but since it’s never really cold in SL, why worry? Four different tattoo-layer alpha-channel “invisibility cloaks” are included, to ensure that your avatar doesn’t show through inappropriately.

A sweater a day [i] : Havok

…keeps Old Man Winter away? Something like that.

Now that it’s officially Winter, it feels right and appropriate to share with you some sweaters I’ve been saving up for when the weather finally began to get cold where I live. (Those of you in the Southern Hemisphere should feel free to follow along, but of course you should also feel free to enjoy wearing shorts and flip-flops while you’re at it.) Now, please don’t get the idea that I’ll be presenting a new sweater here every single day. That would suggest far too much organization on my part, in spite of the title of this little series of short-and-sweet posts I’m planning. But I do have several lined up that I think are worth sharing, and I’ll be doing that, one at a time, for a while, until I feel like moving on to something else. Read the rest of this entry »

A dandy in autumn

Not just anyone, and certainly not everyone, can be a dandy. My own image of the contemporary dandy is quite specific: Richard Jeperson, investigator for the Diogenes Club. Perhaps you’ve heard of him? Although little is known of his background, he is perhaps as well known for his flamboyant 1970s dress sense as for his psychic investigative work on behalf of perhaps the most secret branch of Britain’s secret intelligence services. Along with his sidekick and fellow operative Vanessa, he has been responsible on any number of occasions for preserving the safety of Britain, and perhaps the world, in the face of supernatural forces beyond our understanding.

Oh, and also—he’s fictional. But that doesn’t keep him from setting the bar pretty high when it comes to dandy. No indeed, it does not, believe you me. Read the rest of this entry »
