Blogger Style Throwdown: Alice in Wonderland under 3000L (vs. Catero Revolution)

In July of 1862, the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and the Reverend Robinson Duckworth rowed in a boat up the River Thames with three little girls, the daughters of Henry George Liddell, the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and Dean of Christ Church as well as headmaster of Westminster School. During the ride, Dodgson apparently told the Liddell sisters a tale about a bored little girl named Alice.

Three years later, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by “Lewis Carroll” with illustrations by John Tenniel was published. Even the Queen of England loved the tale, and the tale has never been out of print since. While the tale has always been enjoyed by adults and children, the tale has always been a bit.. well.. creepy.

Alice’s journey “down the rabbit hole” has much in common with a nightmare. Isn’t that perfect for Halloween?

SHIKI Shapes by Jeckie Hax

I go back and forth on shapes.  Let me tell you what I mean by that.  I like my own shape–I made it myself, and I don’t share it around, so it’s unique to me.  I’ve tweaked it over time, but only a little here and there.  It just feels right to me.  (A) I’m satisfied with it, although sometimes I wonder if I might want to be taller, and (2) I don’t want to have to re-fit all my attachments, so there’s no way I’m making significant changes.  For myself, I don’t see any need for pre-fab shapes.

On the other hand, I look at some of the shapes created by, say, Vasean Talamasca.  The shapes in his collection at Flesh Peddlers are attractive, sexy, even exotic.  I see a lot of guys roaming the grid who, frankly, could use some guidance from somebody with a good eye.  I don’t mean to be judgmental, and I’m naming no names, but if you look like a muscle-bound, top-heavy gorilla on steroids, I might have bumped into you.

Jeckie Hax is partner in crime to Shinichi Mathy (SHIKI Design) and the talent behind SHIKI Shapes.  Jeckie mentions in one of her informational notecards that shiki means “The Four Seasons” in Japanese, and to me this suggests not only the flow of time but the balance inherent in the succession of the seasons.  Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Jeckie’s shapes demonstrate balance, proportion and harmony applied to the human form, or at least its representation in SL. New: Male shapes @ ethan kelley designs

adam_clothed.jpgjustin_clothed.jpgTrue confession: I have never bought a shape for myself.  I don’t mean that people have showered me with shapes, nor do I mean that I’m such a genius at designing shapes that I’ve got an inventory full of the best ones you’ve ever seen.  I’ve created a grand total of one shape–my own–and I’m happy enough with the way it came out that I just keep wearing it.  I tweak it slightly every once in a while, not so anyone would really notice, and less often as times goes by.  Fortunately, there are those who see the bigger picture.  Ethan Kelley recently released his Adam and Justin shape sets, and he was kind enough to let me try them out.  You can read Ethan’s own thoughts here, but here’s a taste:

Adam was born with the intent of being a super well proportionate man in his 30’s.  Somewhat of a dominant male with long hair and with an aura of confidence about him. … Justin was a different story … a younger man in his 20’s … essentially everyone’s best friend.

The one problem I have found since coming in world in September last year is where to find great shapes - none of the fashion blogs do anything on this vital area. We can spend so much on skins, clothes …. but I have spent quite a bit of cash and a huge amount of frustrating time trying to find great shapes (including faces) for me and my missus.

Whether its bought or personally made a good shape will: 1. Reflect your personality • 2. Be physically proportionate (to your needs) • 3. Have the ability to adapt well to different skins with minimal tweaking • 4. Be modifiable. (more…)
