gah.. sorry for the wait… technical difficulties held this one up
A long time ago, when I was just a newbie, I would wander the grid, holding my forward arrow down and steering whenever I needed to. Needless to say, I had no life. Actually, now that think of it, I still don’t. But that’s a conversation for another time. On one of these nights of wandering, I ran into this man. He was slightly taller than me, very good looking, and dressed impeccably. I wasn’t quite sure what to say to him, so I said “hi.” He ignored me. I felt very newbish and sad. That man’s name was Lawless McBride. So now, one year later, I found him again and told him: “You may have snubbed me a year ago but I was weak and inexperienced… now I’m ready to face you again. I challenge you to a style throwdown!” (more…)

Two questions for you: (1) Do you love sword & sorcery role-playing in Second Life? (2) Do you collect memorabilia from the Lord of the Rings films?
OK, yeah, me neither.
So why am I standing here in front of a map of ‘Middle Earth’ wearing clothes with names that are spelled a little like Welsh railway stations? If you have to ask, you clearly haven’t clicked the photos to enlarge them. These are beautiful beautiful clothes, detailed and rich and luxurious. I’m telling you, the role-players are better dressed than you. (more…)

It’s imposible for me to think of Hugh Hefner any more without being reminded of Johnny Drama getting himself thrown out of the Playboy Mansion. It’s a priceless moment of television history. Why are the most breathlessly hysterical moments in “Entourage” almost always the result of something Johnny did that was incredibly, moronically stupid? (Brooke Shields: “He. Is. Hard.” I rest my case.) Johnny gives Lucy Ricardo a run for her money.
When I saw what a sincere tribute Shai’s new Hefner Robe and Pajama sets are to Hef himself, I immediately made a quick call to inquire about a photo shoot in The Grotto. Alas–in addition to being a very busy man, he’s notoriously flaky about getting back to people, at least in my experience. I’m sure it was just a problem with timing. He’ll almost certainly call me back, full of apologies, the instant I publish this–my life tends to work like that. Rest assured that Shai’s luxurious loungewear will work its magic in any intimate setting, including your own private boudoir. (more…)

This is Gaku-Gen by Orange Meili of Discord. The white version in particular whispers “simplicity,” albeit intelligently decorated. The stylized tribal/flame design in contrasting colour is avoids cliche with its restraint and asymmetry, especially on the trousers. There’s something anime about the exaggerated flare of the trousers and length of the jacket/robe. The robe bottom is a skirt-layer garment rather than a prim attachment, so strike a kung-fu pose and the design will stretch like it’s printed on a rubber band. Somehow I find this adds to, rather than subtracts from, the anime feel of the outfit.

It’s not really fair. Most builders and designers in Second Life are stuck with pixels and software. But there are a few who, either by Linden library function or by divine fiat, have clearly imported bolts of real fabric onto the grid. The superbly-named Cardinal Sin is one of these. And he’s lavished yards of the stuff on his robes. Click the photos to look at the larger version. This is crushed velvet to die to your sins for. I swear when you put it on, your keyboard and mouse will feel softer.
But church clothes? Is it ironic or is for real? The links with Goth are unmistakable: rich, luxuriant and darker than midnight on Good Friday, trimmed in gold and crimson. All that’s lacking are the cliches: no buckled-up shiny black latex/leatherette or ketchup-fake blood. All of which makes you think it just might be an on-the-level church-produced garment. The gold cross is prominent without being gaudy, the rosary beads are delicate and accurate. The whole piece is hand-drawn but without a trace of cartoon or even sarcasm. (more…)
