I had a hell of a time finding a neko skin I liked. I looked all around, asked people for recommendations, tried on demos like you wouldn’t believe. My thing was, I wanted a skin that, kitty markings aside, would also look good as a skin on its own. I wanted a skin that still left me looking like Ryan, but not Ryan turned feral. What about neko tattoos? you may be wondering. You’re right, some of those look very good, and of course the big plus is that you can wear them with your favorite skin. This approach may well work for you. But I wanted markings on my face, too, and what if I wanted to wear them with some specific clothing and I had a layer conflict? What if I wanted to wear other tatoos? What if I wanted to wear them with underwear? (Nekos get nasty, too, you know.) Maybe, if they came on all the clothing layers… No, what I really wanted was a skin. A really good neko skin. Hmm, it seems like my motif for the week is attempting to present in still images things that really need to be seen in action. Today’s full-motion item is FORM designer Zabitan Assia’s new “Animation Override V.1″. Built upon the foundation of Zab’s previously available line of poses (using Ziggy Puff’s ZHAO-II HUD Animation Overrider), the FORM AO includes 22 poses and animations to customize every aspect of your avatar’s movement, including one stand pose and one animated sit pose that are only available with this AO. All AO operations are conveniently controlled via the discreet FORM-themed HUD, at lower right in this picture. The lower “FORM” button enables and disables the AO; the upper “MENU” button activates the control/configuration menu at upper right. One of the benefits of writing for this blog is meeting various content creators doing interesting things. Unlike real life where you have a team that develops products that have been filtered by months of research and development, test marketing and Director or Vice President approval, in SL product releases tend to be the initiative of an individual who creates, markets and maintains their brand(s) via the power of one.
As someone who follows in-world retail trends I love to stumble across new designers putting their own spin on merchandising. It’s the thrill of coolhunting coupled with remotely sharing in the success of one’s favourite creators. (more…)

I’ll keep this short and sweet. This week marked the appearance of some really fun, satirical and all around distinguished articles on the men’s fashion scene. Being a joker-at-heart, as soon as I saw Gadget Gobo and Caroline Apollo’s comical devices I ran down to their stores to take a peek for myself - laughing all the way. Sometimes we all need a little ludicrously funny distraction for our wardrobes. As always designers for all categories of items put out primo content whether you seek the ludicrous or the distinguished that we just can’t help but share with the masses.
While chasing answers to a reader inquiry I had the great fortune to stumble across a skin which may be something worth investigating for those looking for a non-athletic touch.
Dive in and see if there’s something within that suits your tastes.

Following some constructive and pointed feedback from our valued readers the format of this segment as been slightly adjusted. You are really making me work for this. But I enjoy a good challenge. Items have been arranged in categories and descriptions have been made more concise (3 to 5 short sentences each). Due to time and resource constraints designer-created images have been used in the product highlights. If there are any further comments you may have on the changes please feel free to post.
Is it any wonder that this was also a week that was rife with male fashion content? We’ve got a fairly diverse round-up with amongst the categories in addition to two sales. And of course I felt obligated to write about the quality products I saw and/or tried on.

A little while back, Men’s Second Style reader Ethan Kelley IM’d me and said (I’m paraphrasing here), “Hey, I really like the blog, but one thing–I’ve noticed that, like many people, you’re not really smiling in any of the pictures. I have something that may be a solution for you.” Lo and behold, waiting for me was an an object called “EKD Natural Smile.” I must check that out, I thought. Of course you know what happened. I have a seriously bad case of Massively Messy Inventory Syndrome (MMIS), the symptoms of which you can no doubt imagine, and the Natural Smile languished in my inventory–not alone and not lonely, it had plenty of company–for I don’t know how long, but I’m guessing it’s been a few weeks. Sorry, Ethan!
