I sagged against the ropes. Breath rasped in my throat, and I tensed as the cat came down again across my back. I would have pleaded for mercy, could I find the breath, though none would have given it. The boatswain shouted the count, and down came the cat once more. Pirates stood on either side of me, grinning and shouting. I took a grip on the ropes and yearned for unconsiousness. (more…)

He saw her at dusk, standing at the Blood Fountain. He had only just arisen for the night, and she must have known that, must have been waiting. She was brave, or reckless, perhaps thoughtless, certainly foolish–but, however mildly curious he might be, in the end he knew it was of no importance. She was there; that was all that mattered. She could not possibly have made herself more an offering, no matter if she had tried for an eternity. She was beautiful, which was pleasing if unnecessary, and she was daringly attired, which was unsurprising. Her bared neck and shoulders amused him, her prayerful stance struck him as forceful if unoriginal, but her rosary necklace pushed him almost to the brink of laughter. It was not that the Christian cross had no power–no, not at all. But it was after all only a symbol, and meant little in the absence of belief, however limited. And he did not sense from her anything like belief. From her he sensed only anticipation, expectation…resignation? Was it? With most it would have been, but not with her. Interesting.
He knew she was his when she deigned to notice his presence. (more…)

Hello; my name is Mr. Oh and I’m a Sparroholic. But I have to show you this suit, even though Ryan has just written about Thorns and in his article mentioned how addicted I am.
Entropy is the latest triumph in hyasynth Tiramisu’s efforts to bring beautifully textured full-length suits to the men and women of Second Life. (As usual, please click the photos for more detail.)
The piece you’ll notice first is the jacket. It’s floor-length, with a flexi-prim that flows nicely when you walk or turn or dance. There are also prim attachment sleeve-cuffs. What makes the jacket so desirable, though, is the way the light is reflected and absorbed by luxurious cloth with its wonderful and intricate patterning. (more…)

Second-man.com regulars need no introduction to the work of Raven Pennyfeather. RFyre outfits are always richly detailed, deeply coloured, and usually full of options and amazing prim features. The latest outfit, Unseelie, is clearly and unmistakeably in that tradition.
Terribly romantic rather than pure gothic, Unseelie consists of tight leather trousers, a rough white cable-knit shirt, either a jacket with prim belt and bottom, complementary collar and shoulder-guards (with a greenish tinge); or a waistcoat, which which the prim belt and bottom also work. If you wear the jacket, prim “sleeves” join the gloves in a great design. If you wear the waistcoat, the woolen shirt has some bunched sleeve cuffs with lace extentions. The shirt also comes with a loose and gauzy collar. Socks are also included, but not boots. (more…)

It’s been a little while now since Abby Coalcliff released her first set of period menswear, a generous handful of medieval designs. Now she has expanded her collection for men with the addition of three new outfits and a few prim belts that are available separately, not just as part of an outfit. These are all handsome designs, great additions to a collection that hopefully will continue to grow.
The simple peasant-style outfit shown here is called Cy Rogue. The set includes a well-worn sleeveless tunic, leather pants, and prim belt and bracers. You can wear the tunic untucked, as shown, or tucked in. The pants have prim side laces for that perfect fit, and they’re included on both pants and underwear layer, so you can wear them with shoes or tucked neatly into boots. The belt’s woven texture matches up nicely with the ties on the bracers. Both belt and bracers are scripted for size adjustment via touch menu. Perfect for driving livestock to market, hoisting a pint of mead with your best mates at your favorite tavern, or taking up arms in defense of your hamlet against wicked oppressors. L$450 for the set. (more…)

Most folks tend to associate cowboys with “gunslingers” cuz of Western movies. I’d think that between the cattle drives, working around the ranch, and just tending to cattle a cowboy ends up pretty damn busy. In fact, that may be why Domch Raymaker of SLMen fame couldn’t make it to the throwdown on Friday. But, here he is on Sunday with an awesome entry. (more…)

I had a hell of a time finding a neko skin I liked. I looked all around, asked people for recommendations, tried on demos like you wouldn’t believe. My thing was, I wanted a skin that, kitty markings aside, would also look good as a skin on its own. I wanted a skin that still left me looking like Ryan, but not Ryan turned feral. What about neko tattoos? you may be wondering. You’re right, some of those look very good, and of course the big plus is that you can wear them with your favorite skin. This approach may well work for you. But I wanted markings on my face, too, and what if I wanted to wear them with some specific clothing and I had a layer conflict? What if I wanted to wear other tatoos? What if I wanted to wear them with underwear? (Nekos get nasty, too, you know.) Maybe, if they came on all the clothing layers… No, what I really wanted was a skin. A really good neko skin. (more…)

So, here’s a funny thing. I didn’t know the theme of the upcoming Style Throwdown when I picked up these designs and decided to make them my next feature. Am I picking up on a psychic wavelength? Is it something in the water? I don’t want to spoil anything or steal thunder from Express and Lawless, so let’s just say I’m thematically consistent and consider this a companion piece, shall we?
“Su’an Assassin” (L$200 L$400) by Madlax Stygian is a fairly elaborate fantasy/roleplay ensemble that comes complete with scripted weapons. The set includes black leggings with prim side pouches and rolled cuffs, prim obi and prim Geta shoes (close-up). The leggings come in two styles: the longer style shown here and a shorter “capri” style, presumably for women. The legging cuffs and shoes are detailed with flexi string ties, and the prim side pockets can be worn with or without the pictured “shard” knives. Also included is a sword, the Su’an blade. The weapons are scripted for combat], complete with “draw” animations, sound effects and animated stances (blade, knives). Notecards are included with info on the weapons scripting. I’m not into combat RP and didn’t try the weapons out in that setting, but the animations and sound effects are very cool indeed. (more…)
