Big sale at TRUTH

I haven’t yet had a chance to visit and check this out, but I Just read about a big sale at TRUTH.  Looks like to-be-discontinued clothing and hair have been drastically marked down, with hair packs starting at L$50.  Just sayin’.  ;)

Freebies from Rich People Stores

Rich Folk Outfit 1Remember me? For the few of you who do.. no I didn’t die. I’ve just been very busy with RL and then “relaxed” a bit with a week of summer vacation. My vacation isn’t quite over yet, but I felt that I had to cover some freebies that might disappear soon. My laptop’s onboard graphics aren’t good enough SL so I snuck onto a friend’s machine to install SL to snap a few pics for this post. Thus, this post is brought to you by my friend with no desktop password :P

Anyway, a long time ago I said that I couldn’t buy fancy clothes cuz I’m poor. Well, now a good number of those rich stores have freebies all in one spot: KMADD Enterprise. KMADD had a lot of gifts out from their opening, which disappeared a lil while back, before I could cover them (I hadn’t started blogging when they disappeared). Its not all bad though, because they replaced them with different gifts from a handful of the KMADD stores, including Tonic, Tango NY, Endeavor, Indigo, Redgrave, Mechanism, Mhaijik Things, SF Design, and of course MADesigns. Non-Easter freebies

Truth Danny hair and Amplify Striped PoloThere are a lot of easter freebies. I don’t like easter. But I’ll cover em soon. First, though, some non-easter freebies for y’all. Let’s start with the hair. For the weekend, Truth Hawks has decided to grace the masses with no less than three dollarbie hair fat packs. Unfortunately, only one of three is for guys. Its called Danny, and kinda reminds me of a cleaned up version of Modern Edge from Naughty Designs. Its got a the long emo look in front, though less whispy, and has a nice clean edge in back. Its also a lot cheaper, which I really really like :). I’m wearing it in Toffee to the left.

The shirt is from Amplify. Nice, simply done, and 0L. Kudos to Tinker. Its a weekend only special so drop by fast. The white undershirt is attached to the skin, but actually fits alright with the polo. There’s also a cool Dead Elvis tshirt in a gift bag at the door. I think its for girls because its only on the shirt layer, but there is no boob shading so its fine for a tucked in look. (more…)

Men’s Corner: Skins and hair

antonio_pale.jpgIn Second Life we have the opportunity to express ourselves, via our avatars, in ways that may not be easily accessible to us or even possible in real life.  Designer clothing may be daily wear for us in SL, while in real life it’s a luxury that may or may not be possible for us.  Changing our skins and hair, though, is a different story—neither quick nor easy in real life, but a matter of a few simple clicks in SL.  This issue’s theme is “The Body,” and in this column I want to share with you designs by a few of my favorite skin and hair designers–some new, some old favorites, some you might not have heard of, but I think all are doing great work.

One of my favorite skins in every aspect is “Antonio,” by Funk Schnook.  When checking out a skin, I find that I always look first at the face, and I love the way Antonio’s feature detailing (including all the facial hair choices, which are very well done) works on my avatar.  Two levels of muscle definition are available, and I remember Funk being a little surprised that he felt the skin worked well on my slim shape, as he had designed it with more “built” shapes in mind.  Here you see the less-defined in the Pale skin tone, with the Stubble with Soul Patch facial hair option.  L$1850 for a single skin, or L$4500 for a four-pack; demos available in the store.  Available in four tintable skin tones and a variety of facial hair and makeup options at FNKY! (FNKY Cake 136, 69, 24). (more…)

New: This Week in Men’s Fashion: June 24 - 30, 2007

Due to a massive power outage in my building I was unable to access the internet. After going through the five stages of grieving (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) I decided not to stare at my blank computer screen and went out to enjoy the Canada Day atmosphere and celebrations across the city. Canadians and Americans, please enjoy your festivities.

And now on to fashion. As always, if you have your ear to the ground and stumble across a really great designer please send me an IM. Please note that for the month of July I’m taking a break from this weekly column.

casadelshai_snapshot_006.jpgCasa Del Shai. A follow up to the suave elegance of last week’s Barong Tagalogs with a westernized twist in the Amorsolo and Luna suits. The traditional Filipino shirts have been paired with a suit jacket that has been embroidered/screen printed on the back panel and a crisp pair of matching slacks. The ensemble sells @ 600L and can be purchased in Deco (112, 150, 30).

sale_indie_snapshot_001.jpgSale @ Indie. Don’t forget to check out Indie Rainbow’s stores in Louise and Sede di Marte before July 5th and take advantage of the liquidation sale on his hand drawn goodies for men and women. Once the sale is over his current collection will be retired.

vrdesigns_snapshot_006.jpgVR Phlux. Another addition to the swing collection. “Harris” is a sharp tweed suit with shirt and tie, vest with pocket watch detail layer, jacket layer and belted “Hollywood” slacks. The suit sells for 300L at phlux (169, 163, 35).

Grand Re-Opening @ TRUTH

truth_snapshot_017.jpgSame great style in a fancy new box.

It’s no secret. For several weeks Truth Hawks has been on the move to redesign the vibe of his branding. According to his philosophy, phase one was the logo change and phase two is the grand redesign of his headquarters. He has made a conscious effort to break away from initial inspirations for TRUTH Designs.

Just over a week ago the guru of casual fashions invited me down into the lush Odessa Luxurious sim to take a sneak peak at his new fashion house, which has been designed in monumental beachfront style by architect Bethany Heart and scripter Echo Seigo of EB Creations who expertly create anything from homes and stores to entire sims.

The build includes a runway stage with a flashing spotlight effect on the entrance curtains, dark mahogany accents and subdued wall texturing with dramatic lighting effects throughout. The composition utilizes clean, simple lines and detailed texturing to create an atmosphere that exudes a sense of luxury closer to the equator. It’s classy yet casual - just like the goods found within. Bethany endeavoured to make Truth’s vision of an edgy, sexy and chic store materialize into an edifice fully deserving of the brand’s existing and future offerings. (more…)

This week has been pure madness. It’s been filled with family, party, headaches and it was all topped off by a wedding. Though, SL fashion was at the back of my mind. The sign of true addiction.

With all that was going on I couldn’t disappoint. With time quickly running out I bring you this week’s goodies.

I’ll keep this short and sweet. This week marked the appearance of some really fun, satirical and all around distinguished articles on the men’s fashion scene. Being a joker-at-heart, as soon as I saw Gadget Gobo and Caroline Apollo’s comical devices I ran down to their stores to take a peek for myself - laughing all the way. Sometimes we all need a little ludicrously funny distraction for our wardrobes. As always designers for all categories of items put out primo content whether you seek the ludicrous or the distinguished that we just can’t help but share with the masses.

While chasing answers to a reader inquiry I had the great fortune to stumble across a skin which may be something worth investigating for those looking for a non-athletic touch.

Dive in and see if there’s something within that suits your tastes.

New: This Week in Men’s Fashion: April 1-7, 2007

0_header_twimf.gifWhat hath Catero wrought?! I wanted to start this segment as a means to briefly sum up seven days worth of men’s style news while still fulfilling the commitments of the real world and maintaining some level of fun in Second Life. There were tons of stuff that warranted coverage this week! Some designers have kept me busy with multiple product releases and the skin market has been in overdrive, not to mention the opening of Hair Fair ‘07.

I highly suggest that you surf the waves of lag and visit Hair Fair. Several stylists (old and new) have some interesting styles for their male customers and its a great opportunity to see where in-world hair trends are heading. Did you know that the AVEDA institute established its presence in SL this week (check the details on the ETD blog)?

It’s often difficult to balance one’s real life with one’s Second Life pursuits. As a reviewer I am often riddled with a guilty conscience when I am unable to complete product coverage on some of the great items I view on a weekly basis. I can only imagine whether Ryan and Ben also suffer from Reviewer’s Remorse Syndrome (RRS) or not.

Efforts to soothe my inner turmoil have given rise to ‘This Week in Men’s Fashion’ where I hope to give concise overviews on some of the quality goods popping up all over the grid that enhance the male shopping experience. Through commenting, please lend us your thoughts on this trial component for the blog.

With that being said, let’s take a look this week’s offerings by:

New: TRUTH by Truth Hawks

truth_snapshot_001.jpgThere is a Chinese proverb, “the Truth is perfect like the vastness of space, with nothing wanting, nothing superfluous”. This pearl of wisdom aptly describes TRUTH by Truth Hawks, an up-and-coming designer whose growing brand is sure to become a fashion industry mainstay. It’s one of those secret finds you want to keep to yourself, but sheer excitement will not allow you.

truth_snapshot_002.jpgHis shop, containing a collection of fresh and simple men’s and women’s casual apparel, has garnered him a dedicated following within a relatively short period of time. Word about the brand is spreading solely through word-of-mouth and the buzz is surely a result of his experience as a 3D texture artist in the real world. Truth’s clothing is highly detailed and incorporates his own style of texture light sourcing. The interlocking knit-weave of the Body Fit [Blk] (pictured left) and Body Fit Geisha shirts have a very tactile appearance, evoking warm thoughts of your favourite sweater. The resulting naturality is sure to provoke your significant other(s) to want to stroke the fabric while you wear these. That statement is based on research. (more…)
