Always chasing rainbows @ Mhaijik Things, SLAB

crono_polo_light_blue.jpgI have a confession to make: I haven’t been to a pride festival in a few years. It’s not that I don’t live in a city that has a large one every year–I live in Los Angeles, and L.A. Pride is one of the largest pride events in the U.S. (The 2008 festival was this past weekend, June 6, 7 and 8…and no, you wouldn’t have seen me there.) It’s not that I’m not proud–my friends would be the first to agree that excessive humbleness has never been my problem. ;) And it’s not that they aren’t fun–they certainly can be, I’m always up for a good time, and if you want to try your target marketing on me, knock yourself out.

I suppose you’d be justified in wondering if I’ve just gotten lazy, and can’t be bothered to turn out (so to speak). But I think it’s more that my life has simply become very domestic, and we like to stay home or just chill and hang out with friends. (more…)

New: Business as (un)usual @ SLAB, Moonshine

faze_green.jpgI rarely feel the need to look traditionally professional in SL.  You may have noticed that I keep an inworld office, although not, um, actual office hours.  It’s rather casually appointed–there’s no desk, although there is a little-used conference table– and I pretty much use it just for meetings and the occasional interview.  There are times, though, when a man needs to look like he means business, literally, and in those circumstances it’s entirely possible that no amount of themed gear will do.  While a jacket may be optional in today’s “business casual” environments (I can hear Secundus cringing from here), a quality dress shirt is essential.  Pompo Bombacci’s new “Faze” dress shirts come in four office-appropriate colors:  Cream, Light Blue, Green and Purple.  The fabric texture strikes a nice balance between freshly ironed and comfortably well worn.  If not done carefully, the former can feel too “crispy” for my taste, while the later can look like you slept in the shirt, in your car…in the office parking lot. Jeans: The Right Fit

GRIPP_Jeans___Core_Dirty.jpgI have hinted in previous posts, that for me, it is difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans in Second Life. I am reminded of the times I have gone shopping with my RL wife and she searches through every store in the mall to be defeated in the end. At the end of the day the complaints and tears seem endless. Either the pockets fit funny, they aren’t the right “style” or they make her butt look fat. Until I became Second Life fashion obsessed, I never understood why or what caused her such grief. “Just grab the pair that fits and find your way back to the car.” But it was never that easy. And, for some reason I think God is teaching me a lesson for not showing her patience. In RL I wear a 34-32. In Second Life it takes a lot more effort to find the right fit. Hopefully I can save you time and energy. I will review seven designers and I guarantee that at each location there is a pair you’ll enjoy.

Men’s Corner: Winter Wear

So what if, as the song says, the weather outside is frightful?  I’m such a whore for sweaters and coats as it is, I barely need winter as an excuse.  This month you get to benefit from my hedonistic accumulation of cold-weather wardrobe items, as I’m sharing some of my favorites, both old and new.

peacoat_blue.jpgFirst up, an old favorite of mine.  These Pea Coats by Donmai Frederick, released last winter, have classic lines and a beautiful wool fabric texture.  The set includes coats in six colors:  Beige, Black, Blue (as shown here), Brown, Gray and Green.  A simple undershirt also adds shape and bulk to the coat, so you look like you’re layering properly for the cold weather, just like your mother told you.  As if that weren’t enough, you also get four flexi scarves, plain and striped, in short and longer lengths.  Undershirt and scarves are tintable, so you can customize to your heart’s content.  Also available in a set styled for women.  Pick these up for L$300 for the set at Back and Forth (Metabirds 192, 71, 25). New: Classy sweaters @ SLAB Designs

skoop_purple_tucked.jpgskoop_black_untucked.jpgDesigner Pompo Bombacci of SLAB Designs continues his exploration of refined men’s casual wear with his new ensemble, “sKOOp.”  The look is well dressed but not dressed up, comfortable but not too casual–although even on the “untucked” version the shirt is tucked in, the simple checked shirt is unbuttoned at the top and the tie is loosened for after-hours relaxation.  Each set includes tucked and untucked shirt / tie / sweater combinations, a shirt-layer sweater base for wear under the jacket-layer untucked sweater, and coordinating belted pants in either very dark blue or black, depending on the sweater color.  Permissions are no copy / no mod / transfer, but the pants are provided in four fits: tight, loose, baggy, and extra baggy. New: Tweed, khakis, shades @ SLAB Designs

yup_brown_tucked.jpgYou may remember some of Pompo Bombabcci’s casual designs from an earlier post. Now he takes SLAB Designsin a different direction with these comfortable casual-dressoutfits. The result is a fine interpretation ofwhat is perhaps the earliest known native attire of the male of the species known as “Young Urban Professional.” For the benefit of those who may have missed the relevant episodes of “Wild Kingdom,” this includes a simple, classic white dress shirt(no tie), khaki trousers, and tweed jacket. As envisioned by Pompo, “YUP” comes with two jacket/shirt combos (one with the shirt tucked, the other untucked), one pair of khakis with leather belt (four different pants fits: Tight, Loose, Baggy, and Extra Baggy), and a shirt-layer item that loosens the fit of the sleeves, to avoid that sprayed-on look. Here I’m wearing the tucked-shirt version, perfectforan informal dinner out or other event that doesn’t call for suit and tie or formal attire. (more…)

New: Casual gear @ SLAB Designs

da_bomb_veentage.jpgSo the other day Iget an IM from Pompo Bombacci, andhe says thanks for taking my free time to write for the blog, which he reads “religiously” (I believe that was the word he used). Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s great to be appreciated (because it is my own free time, in case you’re wondering). But I’m also happy to hear when someone reads regularly, because that means you’re coming back for more, ha-ha suckers! So I thank him for thanking me and for reading, and we chat back and forth a bit. Turns out he’s not just SL Resident Pompo Bombacci–he’s Designer Pompo Bombacci of SLAB Designs, and would I be interested in checking out some of his new casual menswear? Of course I say yes, and here we are. Here you see the Da Bomb Lite Shirt paired with VeEntage Jeans (shown in greater detail below). Da Bomb is pieced together from washed-out, faded denim and well-worn flannel, and it has a kind of reimagined western/cowboy feel. The pack (L$270)includes shirts with sleeves and without, buttoned and unbuttoned, for a total of four different looks. I’m kind of wishing I had taken pictures of more of the the other styles too, but I was afraid of overdoing things. Drop by the shop and check out the various styles in person. ;) (more…)
