New(ish): Overcoats @ SiniStyle Design

sylar_front.jpgsylar_full.jpgIf you’ve been reading for a while, you may remember that Krius Misfit created one of my favorite coats, from relatively early in my SL life and to this day, the Nomad Trencher.  Now he’s gone and done it again, with not one but two recent additions to his collection of gritty outerwear.  Inspired by characters from “Heroes” and their attire, Krius’ new Sylar “BoogeyMan” and Peter “5 Years Gone” coats aren’t just an “as seen on TV” gimmick–these are serious, sophisticated designs, not to be missed. New: This Week in Men’s Fashion: June 17 - 23, 2007

For those who have been hiding under a rock SL turns 4 years old this week. During all of our careers there have been many ups and downs - n’est-ce pas? - as we all go through our own growing pains in this surreal virtual space.

Within this anniversary week so much is in development or has occurred in the realm of culture relating to the Men’s Second Style blog as well as resident lifestyle in general.

contest_faceofasia07.jpgFace of Asia Model Competition. Anyone who can coax those sliders in appearance mode to create a beautiful or handsome Asian shape is encouraged to enter this cultural modeling contest brought to us by the Asian Designers Summit. Contest guidelines can be found at the Women’s Second Style blog or by visiting the Men’s Second Style office, Casa Del Shai, Earthtones Boutique, Muse or Nicky Ree’s Boutique in-world. Face of Asia is open to all residents. Round 1 submissions close June 27, 2007 at midnight SLT.

freebies_sl4b_nora.jpgNora Body Skins by Sezmra Svarog. Since she teased audiences in mid-April with a sneak peak of her new generation of male skins in development I have been eagerly awaiting the release of her skins. This week, Sezmra displayed a more detailed vision of her skins - each appealing to a different segment of skin consumers: the toned “Hunter” and the svelte “David”. Nora is also offering up some SL4B freebies @ her shop and promises a rehaul of her store and sim.

Second Love Magazine. Tya Fallingbridge and Daphne Molinari announce this week the launch of Second Love Magazine on July 1, 2007. Second Love will be monthly PG publication covering a variety of issues affecting straight and gay residents whether in single, coupled or friendship relationships. The magazine will be accessible in-world and online. The launch party is set for July, 1st @ 7 P.M. SLT game time at Schmooze, Pixel Dreams (12, 146, 21).

As a reminder, if you are aware of any new designers or products that you discover during the week and would like to see included in this segment please look me up and IM me in-world.

Due to the fact that my wireless network has been cutting in and out unexpectedly all week I’m keeping this week’s episode ultra concise. That, coupled with frequent crashes has made SL an absolutely charming experience as of late. Before the signal fades on me again or my laptop freezes up I’m pressing “Publish”.

Please note that you must be logged in to the SL main site or the SL forums using your account information to follow the links to the original merchanside posts.

Woo. This week had been … well … different. With the dawn of sculpted prim (”sculptie”) capability, many designers have wasted no time in incorporating this new feature into their products. The results are impressive.

There were actually quite a few new articles I wanted to include in this week’s round-up, however, there was just so much stuff that I couldn’t humanly cram it all in. That being said, I’ll quickly give those who don’t regularly check the forums or other style blogs the heads up that:

  • Garbage Prototype of [Random] has created some jeans as well as a set of vest-and-tee combos (fyi, he’s really feeling Lily Allen at the moment).
  • Jesseaitui Petion of Aitui Tattoo & Piercing/Renown has rolled out a slew of non-full body tattoos for both sexes at Aitui. He’s also put out flexi neck bandanas and v-necked longsleeves called “Three4th” in 4 colours. And lastly, he’s beefed up his Advance skins which now boasts over 70 skins in 3 light to dark skintones with various facial hair options.
  • Lost Thereian of Naughty Designs has released some long-awaited short styles for men (“Dare” and “Modern Edge”).
  • Mystikal Faddoul of Mystikal Hair Designs came out with “Brat”, a flexifed style with scultped hat.
  • Nephilaine Protagonist of Pixeldolls puts sculpties to the test with a collection of tintable longleeves, jeans, and a velvet jacket.

I’ll keep this short and sweet. This week marked the appearance of some really fun, satirical and all around distinguished articles on the men’s fashion scene. Being a joker-at-heart, as soon as I saw Gadget Gobo and Caroline Apollo’s comical devices I ran down to their stores to take a peek for myself - laughing all the way. Sometimes we all need a little ludicrously funny distraction for our wardrobes. As always designers for all categories of items put out primo content whether you seek the ludicrous or the distinguished that we just can’t help but share with the masses.

While chasing answers to a reader inquiry I had the great fortune to stumble across a skin which may be something worth investigating for those looking for a non-athletic touch.

Dive in and see if there’s something within that suits your tastes.

It’s often difficult to balance one’s real life with one’s Second Life pursuits. As a reviewer I am often riddled with a guilty conscience when I am unable to complete product coverage on some of the great items I view on a weekly basis. I can only imagine whether Ryan and Ben also suffer from Reviewer’s Remorse Syndrome (RRS) or not.

Efforts to soothe my inner turmoil have given rise to ‘This Week in Men’s Fashion’ where I hope to give concise overviews on some of the quality goods popping up all over the grid that enhance the male shopping experience. Through commenting, please lend us your thoughts on this trial component for the blog.

With that being said, let’s take a look this week’s offerings by:

New: Sh*t Kicker Boots @ SiniStyle Design

sh_t_kicker_brown.jpgI have no idea if this blog is considered PG or Mature, so as you can see from the title of this post I’m playing it safe.  ;)  Krius Misfit of SiniStyle Design makes the leap into serious footwear with his new Sh*t Kicker Boots.  These babies are perfect whether you do indeed need to kick some sh*t, stomp some roaches, or just hang out and complain about the government.  The uppers go to about mid-calf, and they would lace all the way up if you gave a sh*t.  But you don’t, so the laces swing free about a third of the way down.  Don’t worry, they won’t fall off and it’s more comfortable like that anyway.  You see them here in brown.  Check out the gorgeous, beat-to-sh*t detailing of the leather!  The heel is low but will give you a little extra height, essential if you need to kick the sh*t out of some sh*thead in an alley somewhere…preferably with no witnesses. New(ish): Tube socks @ SiniStyle Design

tube_red.jpgOh my God, you’re thinking.  I know you are.  Socks.  Why is he reviewing socks?  What, you never got socks for Christmas?  ;)  Socks are kind of an interesting beast in SL.  By that I mean mostly that there aren’t many around.  The only socks I have are some tube-style socks I got at American Apparel, a few pair that came included with shoes I bought (a trend I wish more designers would adopt, there’s your hint for the week), and a few pair that I…shudder…made myself.  You’re probably in the same situation.  Or maybe you’re one of those guys who, as Nick pointed out earlier, don’t bother to wear socks.  Maybe that’s just because you don’t have any.  Well, now you have no excuse.  Krius Misfit of SiniStyle Design recently released a collection of socks that, trust me, you can’t live without. New: Western/Rockabilly shirts @ SiniStyle Design

six_shooter_rolled.jpgAny time Krius Misfit of SiniStyle Design puts out anything new, I take notice.  Even so, I was dubious of his new “Western/Rockabilly” shirts as I seem to have some sort of allergy to all things country-western.  My friends will tell you I don’t even like country music.  But it’s Krius, and I think his trench coats are some of the most gorgeous things I’ve worn in SL, so I figured I’d take a look.  It’s the least I could do.  And how glad am I that I did?  Let me count the ways!  The new “Six-Shooter” and “Cr8zy” button-down shirts are such great designs that I want to weep.  I won’t, though, because I’m a big boy now.

Both shirts come in tucked and untucked versions (worn on the shirt and jacket layers, respectively) and with both long and rolled-up sleeves, so you can get a variety of different looks.  Here you see me in “Six-Shooter” with rolled sleeves.  Hmm, might be time to renew that gym membership.  ;)  The killer for me, though, is the prim cuffs–they’re awesome!  At first I found myself frustrated when trying to fit them properly (hey, it was late and I was tired), but I calmed down, slowed down, took a deep breath, and then it was fine.  I love the way the cuffs give some real snap and professional finish to the shirts. New: Trench coats @ SiniStyle Design

full_length.jpgI think this is the first time I’ve reviewed a big-ticket item like this–I’ve been kind of reluctant to recommend that you go out and spend so much of your hard-earned L$ on something extravagant.  Then again, everything you buy in SL is a luxury, right?  Or entertainment, depending on how you look at it.  And when you consider that some shoes cost this much, maybe it’s not so expensive after all.  ;)  Designer Krius Misfit has done a truly amazing job on this coat, the Nomad Trencher, available in brown only (the Phantom Stranger Trencher is available in black).

Here’s what you get for your money: Trench coat with shirt (also includes an open-shirt option), jeans, gloves, flexiprim coat bottom, prim fuzzy collar, and optional prim hood (in small and large sizes).  Now here’s what it all looks like. (more…)
